We all joke that the knights of the round table are obedient as hell when it comes to the king. But I also think that it's sad that it's the only thing they know, so much so that they would try to kill themselves if they are proven not good enough to serve the throne.

To be under tyranny this long that you forgot what it's like to live freely, to think freely, to serve freely.

Their immediate thought was to disband once the king was gone because they thought that their service is no longer of use if there is no king to serve, and then immediately kneeled once having a new king despite what they have thought of him.

Black Knight is not just about life and death, but also what it means to be free. The theme is not as up front as the former, but it's there.
