how can any language be ‘ugly’ if it’s always also the language passed along from a mother to her child, the language of two lovers in the dark, the language of stories told by grandfathers, the language of vows and eulogies, the language of learning and singing and feeling and connection and culture… how is all of that not inherently beautiful

my favorite era in history is the one where people discovered you could make cartoons out of typography and newspapers would run articles that were just like “today dennis the intern figured out how to draw a dog with the typewriter so here it is”

Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?
Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.
Now, it's just... Social media. That's it. Social media and news sites. And I'm tired of social media and I'm tired of the news.
Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?

Ease of maintenance and repair aside, the biggest argument in favour of returning to larger laptop form factors is that they wouldn’t be hazardous to use. Like, we may still call them laptops, but officially they’re “notebooks” – the manufacturers can’t legally market them as “laptops” because actually resting one on your lap has a non-zero chance of causing second-degree burns. Shitty heat management is a direct and unavoidable consequence of ultra-slim form factors. The senseless pursuit of aesthetics over usability has literally resulted in personal computers that are trying to kill us.
(To address the obvious objection, yes, there were laptops with dangerously inadequate heat management back when larger form factor were the norm, too – I’m not claiming that there weren’t. The difference is that dangerously inadequate heat management is now very nearly universal in portable computers, to the point that it generally doesn’t even warrant a star off the reviews.)
