Regardless of your religion or lack of, I would appreciate if all of you either took a moment of silence or a moment of prayer for the students at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Two children, ages 8 and 10, passed away today. There are 14 injured children, ages 6 through 15, and 3 injured adult parishioners in their 80s, while attending the first Mass of the school year. All of those injured are expected to survive, but please wish them luck in their recovery.

The shooter died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooter just so happened to be trans, and has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, Robert Westman on their ID; you will likely see their deadname more in news posts on this subject, so I am telling you both names.

There will likely be a strong wave of transphobia incoming, due to the gender attributes of the shooter. I've already seen 3 or 4 podcasts with a cover page of a scene from the shooting and the trans-flag, many articles about trans women and violence, TERF rants, etc. Too all my friends who aren't cis, do not let the Right-leaning news articles, who will blame this incident on trans people, effect you and your self-worth. This person was a monster, regardless of how they presented/identified. Whatever political assholes say about that specific trait, ignore it.

To all my friends, especially those who are cis, don't talk about the fact this shooter was trans; don't make that the focus point of this horrid incident. Regardless of how you're feeling or who you are/identify as, there is NEVER an excuse to murder children and attack a school.

But please, everyone, beware of the upcoming political/news climate, especially my friends in the LGBTQ+ community. Again, take prayers and moments of silence for the lives that were lost today.
