Hip hop on Misery Avenue
You cant say Hip hop without thinking about sex, money, and drugs. Is it even possible to say heartbreak and expose your feelings all in the same song? NO WAY!! Can that even be a number one hit or make the top 10 billboard charts. Hip hop is supposed to be about having power by degrading women and having all this money and going on journeys with the drugs. At least that is what many artists try to aim for and know how to make those songs because that is what will be a hit record. Lucid Dreams by Juice Wrld redefines the hip hop industry and gives us a song about emotions and negative feelings from broken relationships and exposing the drugs to not being a way out to feeling hurt or down about yourself. The song debuted at number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 2 on the chart. The song has also amassed more than 1.9 billion streams on Spotify, being one of the most streamed songs on the platform of all time. Dropping a song like Lucid Dreams gave the opportunity for other artists to have this space of vulnerability and listeners to tone into something other than what the norm for hip pop is. This type of music is to help people what they might be going through and struggling with and only lead to more artists like, The Kid Laroi and Post Malone, to drop songs that relate to the same type of feelings. All three of these artists have made song after song that have peaked the charts and get multiple plays on the radio for the public to hear. But what is being played is what is most crucial and important to his new wave of hip pop music that goes up against every norm possible.
