before he was rufio, he was russell. born sometime in the 1930s to the montague family, the second eldest of the four children of ronan and marina montague behind his twin sister regean, followed several years later by a second set of twins, rose and richard. when he was thirteen, he began attending a boarding school in taunton, england called king's college, where he was sorted into the king alfred house along side two boys who would grow to be his closest friends: peter king and james howard. the three of them were inseperatable, spending summers and breaks at each other's houses, up until the faithful day that peter vanished. russell and james thought, privately, that his father had finally snapped and killed their friend, but as they had no proof of such an accusation, said nothing about it. then, several months after peter disappeared, russell and james woke up on an island with peter standing over them, grinning. thus, according to a nature spirit of a girl called tigerlily, the lost boys were born. peter was a different creature on this island, which they learned was called neverland, than he'd ever been in england. rufio didn't ask, so peter never told, but rufio was pretty sure that maybe his and james' original thought to his disapperence hadn't been quite so wrong ― something very obviously had happened to their friend, something that killed peter king and left some other peter in his place. james suggested they call him peter pan and peter, with a grin too sharp for his mouth, agreed. but there were other things to worry about on neverland, especially when other children began showing up. the lost boys built themselves treehouses, and strung bridges in the branches, and dug underground tunnels barely big enough for a teenager to run through. neverland belonged to the lost boys ― or it had, at some point. then, james ventured too far from camp. too far from home, chasing after a mermaid who'd stolen his things, for the first time in nearly a hundred years, james began to grow up. by the time he made it back to neverland proper, rufio, peter, and the other boys no longer recognized him, and made him leave. that was the last time rufio spoke to him. and all of that was before the darlings showed up. for the first time since they showed up in neverland, peter began paying attention to something other than his friends, and rufio has never been sure how to feel about it.

i never posted my flynn rider lore let me do that real quick. under the cut have a bullet point bio.

- originally born prince horace meyer of the kingdom of oscura to king edmund and queen alexis. - shortly after his birth, oscura was attacked by an army trained in dark magic and quickly became corrupted by said dark magic.  - the kingdom was evacuated via order of the king, and though the order excluded the members of the royal family as he wanted his citizens to escape first, a servant whom the king had previously had an affair with stole the infant prince and took him out of the kingdom, leaving him in an orphanage in a neighboring kingdom. - horace meyer was renamed eugene fitzherbert, the servant having not given his name when she dropped him off at the orphanage. he grew up in the orphanage for the next decade and a half, and eventually left with his best friend, another orphan named lance wardington. - he rebranded himself once again with the name flynn rider, after his childhood hero and swashbuckling rogue, finnigan rider. he and lance began their lives of thievery until roughly five years later when they were about 20, getting caught up with a high class criminal called the baron. - flynn and lance began working for the baron, where flynn fell in love with the baron’s daughter, stalyan. the two were engaged for about a year but flynn left her at the altar after she attempted to control him via magic. - leaving behind the baron’s forces as well as lance, flynn joined forces with the stabbington brothers and worked with them for a few years, before the Big Heist of the lost princess’ crown. - stealing the crown and then escaping from the stabbington brothers, flynn climbed up the side of a tower he’d seen a lot over the years but had never got inside, unsure if it was abandoned or not. sue him, he was desperate to escape the brothers as well as the guards chasing him.  - he climbed into the tower and was nearly immediately hit over the head with a frying pan by rapunzel, knocking him out.  - he awoke tied up by her extremely long hair. why does she have so much hair? but before anything major can happen with this conversation they’re starting to have, a creepy old lady comes up this hidden staircase and starts beating rapunzel up.  - this is around the time that flynn gets the brilliant idea to cut through the hair he’s currently tied up in to escape, just barely managing to cut through their binds when gothel turns on him and tries to kill him. - she doesn’t kill him but she does mess up one of his eyes pretty badly with her CLAWS. rip flynn’s right eye, you will be missed. - rapunzel manages to push gothel out of a window like kind of on accident and kills her. but yay, goodbye creepy old lady. she turns around, devastated, but before either of them can say anything, the curse hits. - bada bam, bada boom, flynn rider is in storybrooke and now his name is angelo dall. he’s been in recovery in the hospital from being half-blinded for the last 28 years; sucks to be him ig.

imagine being lilith jones. you watched your mother's heart get ripped out and crushed to dust when you were five. when you were seventeen, your father went back to a place he swore he'd never return to and traded you and your brother for dreamshade to kill your mother's killer. he promised he'd come back for you. he didn't. you spend the next several hundred years learning how to survive in pan's world only for your brother to get drowned by mermaids and so you get really good at playing these games. your father comes back but he has no idea who you are. by this point, you're not even angry anymore but you still hate him. except you don't think you've ever known how to hate him right.
