Silly reminder that Akutagawa is one of the most underrated characters in terms of his personality and growth as a person. I find his relationship with Dazai especially interesting because many people call it abusive and they hold Dazai accountable for that which is completely valid and true, but I hope they are also aware that Dazai knows exactly what he's doing and he's doing it for a reason. Dazai would not ignore someone for no reason. In the manga, there's a short part in the book, a written part that tells the story of how Dazai and Akutagawa met. After his friends were killed for finding the hidden loot of gang members, he lost himself in his fury and went on a killing rampage, seeking out each member to put them through the pain and agony he felt as he watched his friends die. Not long after, Dazai appeared, looking at him and asking him to join the Port Mafia. Akutagawa asked Dazai to give him a reason to live, and Dazai smiled, indicating he would.

Dazai is fully aware of how Akutagawa functions as a person. Akutagawa needs a strong emotion and/or desire to act up on which affects his whole identity and choices as a person. It is that kind of mindset that kept Akutagawa and his sister Gin alive for so long, and the mindset is still evident even after Dazai left the Mafia.

Dazai continues to ignore him and act as if Akutagawa is weak and could do so much better because the moment Akutagawa will be accepted as a strong person worthy of Dazai's attention is the moment he breaks free of the monstrous, fiery mindset he holds towards killing and becoming stronger than Dazai, a person he highly respects.

The moment he understands the meaning of finding his own identity other than what people have shaped him into and giving himself meaning rather than begging for others to give him meaning himself, he will understand his true strength and he will be accepted by Dazai.

had a fascinating dream last night where there was a new, virally popular trading card game - it was called MOUNTAIN (stylised in all caps) and the whole gimmick was that you couldn’t buy boosters or anything - you had to find them?

nowhere sold MOUNTAIN - I mean, I expect players did, once cards were in their hands.

but acquiring cards meant noticing a box lying around, and just….nabbing it? they’d be in weird places - in a skip, wedged high up in a fence, nestled in the branches of a tree? nobody ever saw who left them there, and there was a lot of debate about how MOUNTAIN boxes were sometimes hard to acquire without risking one’s physical safety - but then, that was also bragging rights. especially as harder-to-reach boxes seemed to contain more elusive and sought after cards…

no, I don’t remember anything about the actual gameplay, we never played any MOUNTAIN. alas. I know there were “frame cards” that were literally transparent but for a fancy metallic or holographic border, which I guess upgraded the card they were applied to? frames were super rare, my coworker literally ran up to me in the pub purely to show off the frame he’d just found

I love seeing Neil through Jean’s eyes because we really see how much of the Butcher is in him and how much of Nathaniel is still there, when reading through Neil’s pov he’s aware of it but we don’t see it, but Jean can see it so clearly, it’s no wonder that when Kevin found out, he took one look at Neil and then could see it right away

I have OCD and with that comes quasi-hallucinations, and I grew up watching a ton of horror films so some of the worst of mine are the standard white skin/black hair demon girl type shit.

However, because a lot of them are based on horror film I have found comfort in doing things that “go against” horror films and being like “see? This could never happen.”

(It’s irrational. I know that. But shut up. This is how I cope.)

For example: I started hearing garbled whispering from beneath my table, so I started playing the muppets sound track. Because they would never play Movin’ Right Along when the protagonist is about to get attacked. That won’t happen. Disney, who owns the muppets, wouldn’t give them the rights.

And it fucking worked.
