I can’t believe I haven’t requested this yet, but a favorite ask of mine is an unintentionally dominant Reader who’s super focused on their partner and because of that they’re generally oblivious to their dominant behaviors, and that one delicious Savanaclaw ask just reminded me of that 👌👌

Could I ask for some HCs of Malleus, Lilia, & Azul with the same premise? Obviously the behaviors of being dominant would be different and not so canine, but these boys “animal sides” are vastly different from each other so I am very interested to see what you come up with 👀👀

I’m more than happy to do more perfect mate headcanons! I find them really enjoyable, even if they can be a tad bit difficult to write.

I hope you enjoy the headcanons though, these took me forever because of a multitude of things.

Info: I’m taking some creative liberties because 1. Octopus mating is.. Not great for translating into humanoid beings because of the whole “Males getting dementia from post nut clarity and females starving themselves until they die when their babies hatch” thing, and 2. Dragons aren't real so I'm gonna do whatever I want. Yuu is reader. Sub characters + Unintentionally Dominant Yuu, Yuu is the same/similar species as to whatever the boys are, Everyone is OOC because these boys are smitten, Squish: An endearing nickname for Azul

The perfect mate is something all non-humans strive to have, but everyone knows it's impossible. But what if it's not?

Malleus Draconia

The first time he laid eyes on Yuu he was enthralled. They were the prettiest gem he had ever seen. A dragon fae with the most impressive horns he had ever seen, polished and shimmering like black opal. And their eyes pierced the soul like a moonbeam through clouds. By all means they were far more intimidating than Malleus, even with all his magic prowess and status. They left him breathless.

His instincts told him to approach and try to impress them, but he held back. Malleus knows better than to let his instincts take control. And yet day after day whenever Malleus would see the beautifully handsome stranger his instincts would grow ever more restless.

Day by day they were seizing a little more of his heart until they had captured it fully. Malleus had lost this one sided game of chess and it left him entranced, his instincts recognized them as the perfect mate. Gentle, strong, caring, and able to protect and provide. That primal side of him was going wild at the fact Malleus hadn’t made a move to even talk to them yet..

That didn’t last long, and Malleus’s instincts were proven right. Yuu was so loving, and gentle in a way Malleus hadn’t known before. They spoke to him not like a terrifying prince, but as a person Yuu saw as equal to them. If his heart wasn’t already in the palm of their hands it would’ve been by the time they began courting.

Malleus assumed he would be the one courting Yuu, but he was mistaken.. Yuu began gifting him little things, a flower turned into gems they made in alchemy class, a meal here and there to make sure he was eating well, a blanket that smelled so strongly of Yuu it couldn’t have belonged to anyone else, a book on rare book on Gargoyles they had obtained from Seven knows where.

They even defended his honor by arguing, and even fighting, with some other students who were saying their usual cruel comments about the prince.. Yuu was treating him like those maidens who received courting gifts back in his grandmother's time.. It made him weak in the knees and heart beat faster whenever they would do something as minor as smile at him.

And yet it seemed Yuu didn’t even realize what they were doing.. Taking the dominant provider role. They were oblivious as to what they were doing and it made sense with them being raised by humans and all.. But that didn’t change the fact that Malleus liked being spoiled more than he assumed he would. Especially if it was by his mate.

Malleus can’t wait much longer for Yuu to claim him. He needs to set up the ceremony with his grandmother and Lilia before he does something stupid. Because Malleus, for all he’s good at magic and politics, isn’t the best at controlling his instincts and emotions..

Lilia Vanrouge

Has had his fair share of partners in the past, but all were temporary flings that both knew would never last all that long. Honestly? He’d kind of given up on finding his ‘perfect mate’ becoming one of many who simply believed such a thing didn’t exist. He was a little saddened by the thought, but nothing more.

And then he heard Yuu’s echoing screech from off in the woods. The sound was oddly pleasant and unique, what else was Lilia to do than investigate? And what he found was breathtaking. Not once in Lilia’s long life had he ever been taken so off guard by someone. Yuu was everything, they glowed under the moonlight, natural fae magic sparking and dancing around them, outlining the hulking set of bat wings making them look ethereal.

And their fangs- their fangs, as hidden as they were buried in a deliciously ripe blood apple, were sharp as obsidian spears, glinting like the stars above whenever they would catch the glistening moonlight. Lilia needed to calm his racing heart before approaching who his instincts sang at him to be his perfect match, and Lilia himself held his doubts. His instincts had responded like this in the past, though never as.. potent.

Lilia wasn’t one to hesitate, so at every opportunity he would approach the noctilucous wonder. He’s one to flirt and flatter, but knows when to back off and how to follow boundaries, especially if his advances are not reciprocated.

Yuu, however, did reciprocate. Not only did they reciprocate but they dominated the flirting war the two had entered, it was hard to get Lilia to even blush, let alone fluster him. Lilia was left with rosey cheeks and a fluttering heart every time the two would cross paths.

Before Lilia knew it Yuu was inviting him to lunches, night walks, video game dates, amongst so much more. They even started giving him fruits that he had never tried before. Food was the way to anyone’s heart, and Lilia was no different. Lilia himself reciprocated their participation in the slowly blossoming relationship, the sight was wholesome, and sickeningly sweet.

Of course Lilia had to make sure of one more thing before letting his instincts fully take the fall; if Yuu was willing to be a parent. Lilia already has Silver, he’s raised Malleus, even taken Sebek under his wing. His instincts are almost entirely related to nurturing and protecting, he needs to know if Yuu is willing to make that jump.

Yuu responds by simply telling him that they started courting him to be with him, everything that comes along after is simply a bonus. They don’t mind becoming a parent, they kind of already knew what they were getting into when Silver “accidently” let something slip. Lilias heart has never been fuller, if he were to die right now he’d die in pure bliss.

As much as Lilia values Briar Vally’s customs he isn’t one to follow them to the letter. He doesn’t see the point in waiting for intimacy with his partner, especially not when he has had other experiences in the past. As stated earlier he isn’t hesitant in letting it be known what he wants.

Azul Ashengrotto

Azul is tripping over himself once he sets eyes on Yuu, doesn’t matter if it's in their human form or merperson form, he’s desperately trying to regain his composure. It’s not often merfolk find someone who enraptures their instincts, the ocean is vast and there's so much open space it's hard to find love that wasn’t formed out of necessity or greed. Sure most relationships held some semblance of “Love” but rarely was it true. But every merfolk knows that feeling, the missing piece of their heart that they know is out there, swimming free and just as broken as them. Yuu is Azul’s missing piece and he doesn’t know how to react to that.

So Azul does what he does best, other than forging contracts and manipulation; gathering intel. He has to know everything about who his instincts say is his other half. He doesn’t get very far because Yuu approaches him anyway, most likely encouraged by the pull the both of them feel.

Yuu is everything Azul never knew he was missing. They were his counterbalance, sweet, caring, protective and honest to a dangerous degree. Why were they so honest? Azul’s heart can’t take all of the caramelized compliments they shove his way, it makes him so flustered and embarrassed all he wants to do is curl up in his octo pot and hide.

Azul is shy when it comes to the courting process, he’s far too embarrassed to initiate anything most of the time. Yuu is usually the one doing most of the heavy lifting during the courting process, but they honestly preferred it that way. Seeing their pretty squish’s eye’s light up at their gift of an addition to his collection of trinkets or a family recipe they were excited to share with him.

Whenever Azul would reciprocate it left his heart fluttering and face flushed. Yuu’s smile was endearing and charming, it was hard for Azul to believe they weren’t a siren. Sometimes he had his doubts. Azul would gift them whatever they liked, sure he wasn’t the biggest fan of spending money, but his spending wasn’t frivolous. Far from it in his eyes.

Azul’s family adores Yuu, especially his grandmother. His mother (softly) drilled Yuu on why she should continue letting them see her son, but quickly realized that Yuu was extremely devoted to her beloved child. His step-father only cares that Yuu treat Azul well, they might not be blood related, but that means nothing when it comes to family. Azul is his son, and as long as Yuu treats him well and keeps him happy, they’ll be his child too. Azul’s grandmother, when she gets the chance to meet them in person, can already tell that Yuu is a perfect fit for her grandchild. Sweet, caring, and generous? Azul scored the whole package, she’s subtly asking when the wedding is.

Mers don’t have many customs when it comes to intimacy, they’re are restrictions and people that have their own values, but over all no real “culture” around it. That being said, Azul is very insecure over his body, so it will take him a long time to be comfortable enough to let You see him so vulnerable.
