rebeccas-shipyards‌:
Rebecca was always impressed with older buildings. Yeah, new ones had more intricate designs and were, frankly, more of a challenge and more fun, but the older buildings were very respectable. Insanely so. She respected each and every one, knowing that even if they weren’t modern, they’ve been through untold amount of use and abuse. She respected these structures immensely.
One such building was a bakery on Arcadia, owned by an old client Ellin. She had a granddaughter Rebecca had seen growing up through the years as well. Well at least from the past fifteen or so years, when Rebecca started working. Rebecca walked into the familiar bakery and called out.
“Hey you two! Did you miss me?”
The two Owens girls were finishing up for the day. Elli was wiping down tables and Granny was finishing her coffee. They did this in peaceful silence until Ellen spoke.
“We have a visitor,” she said, looking out the window. Elli turned back to her grandmother just in time to see Rebecca come thought the door, greeting them.
“Rebecca!” Elli greeted cheerfully. She left the cloth on the table, rushing over to the woman. She din’t pause before wrapping her arms around her in a big hug. “It’s been forever!”
Granny Ellen chuckled from her seat. “Come in dear, have a seat. Elli--”
“I’ll get drinks,” she said before rushing to get Rebecca’s favorite. “Would you like something to eat?” she called as she disappeared into the kitchen.

flowerpowernovelist‌
Iris finished helping one of her patrons order a book they hadn’t had in stock, smiling with the satisfaction of a job well done, and turned to see who was approaching. Her smile brightened at first, recognizing a frequent patron - she tried not to pick favorites, but honestly she’d always have a soft spot for fellow bookworms - only to falter a bit realizing how nervous she looked. What sort of request, she wondered, would bring on that expression? Of course, they had books in… broad categories, maybe it was a topic she didn’t want to admit to researching or-
Or she could be holding Iris’ second novel, asking for an autograph. Iris blushed as well, even as she smiled in delight. It was always a surreal feeling, and not one she expected to run into any more now that she’d moved home. But she certainly had no objections!
She brushed her hair back with a little laugh, beaming. “Oh… oh of course, I’d love to, let me find my good pen… I’m sorry, I just didn’t expect that. Most people don’t put it together.”
Oh. My. GOSH! Her good pen!
Elli’s face lit up. Iris was smiling and going to find her good pen--that HAD to of meant she didn’t hate Elli, right? She wasn’t instantly turned off by Elli asking for her autograph! Surely someone wouldn’t use their good pen if they were upset, right?
“Really?” Elli asked, although she had no right to judge. “I’ll be honest I didn’t notice right away either.” It’d certainly taken her awhile to figure it out. Though, the islands were small. That lowered the chances as well, but was it intentional? Judging by Iris’ pleasant surprise Elli got the feeling it wasn’t.
“But I absolutely love your work. You write the characters so well!” Elli said, her excitement making her talk a little faster than normal. “And Yours, Always is so good! I could relate to the girl so well. It was almost like looking in a mirror at some points--” Elli stopped abruptly, noticing herself start to ramble.
“Sorry,”  she said with a slight blush. “I’ve never met one of my favorite authors before. Or any author, really.”

pinkpoppyflower‌
Popuri was out picking up her normal amount of junk food. Ask this girl to eat healthy and she absolutely wouldn’t. That’s the point of being an adult, right? Getting to eat whatever you wanted. And now that she made her own money it was all her choice!
Popuri spotted the hot chocolate. Yes, it was spring now, but it was never a bad time to drink hot chocolate! It was behind the coffee so she’d have to move that to get it.
Suddenly she was basically holding onto someone else’s hand. Popuri looked over, surprised. The woman pulled her hand away which left Popuri holding the coffee.
“It’s ok!” Popuri said, moving the coffee aside and reaching for the hot chocolate that was tucked behind it, “I wasn’t getting that anyways, so you can have it. I don’t like coffee.”
Elli watched as the pink haired girl set the coffee aside and reach for the hot cocoa. Elli smiled, glad the girl wasn’t put off by the awkward encounter. After all who would want a stranger to practically hold their hand out of the blue?
“Thanks,” she said, grabbing the coffee and putting it in her basket. “That’s a really good brand, by the way.” Elli pointed to the cocoa. “We use it at our bakery. Customers really love it. Have you had it before?”

[ Founding Celebration - Elli & Ellen ]
To be honest, Elli was apprehensive about going to the dance. It was on another island after all. She would have to sail there. Sure, it would be on a big ferry boat--something people kept assuring her was safe, but being on the open water with only the dark depths beneath her didn’t exactly put her at ease.
Lillie originally suggested meeting at the dance. When Elli mentioned it to Granny her whole face lit up, going on about how wonderful the idea was. Elli didn’t even get to finish her thought of not wanting to go. But seeing how excited Granny was Elli couldn’t bring herself to say no.
Before Elli knew it the two of them were on a boat to what had to be the biggest event of the year. Everyone around her was dressed to the nines. Even Granny pulled out all the stops for her gown.
“This will be a night to remember,” Granny said with a sparkle in her eye. Elli hoped she was right.

oaktreeweathergirl‌:
[ ☀ ] — “Alright, see you tomorrow!”
Lillie waves her co-workers farewell as she comes off of her morning forecast at the station, strangely energized despite the lack of sleep. As was common for her work schedule, she had to come in pretty early to start her broadcast, with very little breaks until her shift ended around noon. And even then, she only had a brief amount of time before she would have to move onto her shift at the hotel, or the theatre, depending on what day it was.
Never without a trusty cup of coffee in her hand, the weather girl sips at her favorite beverage as she walks out of the station, and onto her next job for the day. On her way out, the receptionist stops her to pass on a letter, one apparently addressed to her.
Letters weren’t an uncommon occurrence for Lillie, since she had a number of fans who loved to send her fan mail. So she takes it without much question or thought, intent on reading it later. Lillie made it habit to read all of the letters she got, regardless of how many there were— people took precious time out of their days to write to her after all, and it would be rude of her not to respect that by at least seeing what they had to say.
When she stops by the cafe for a snack, Lillie takes that time to open and read the letter, blue eyes scanning over it as she picked at her slice of chocolate cake. As the words sunk in, the weather girl found herself going through a storm of emotions. First, confusion. Then, shock. And by the end of it… curiousity, with a hint of excitement.
Tumblr media
George Owens. The name definitely rung a bell. She couldn’t quite remember why though, so she gives her dad a quick call to get to the bottom of the of the mystery. Once he confirms that George Owens was, indeed, the brother of Lillie’s maternal grandmother, she quickly makes a plan to contact Elli back.
A long lost relative, in these islands? She could hardly believe it!
Lillie writes a letter for Elli the moment she gets home, using the other woman’s given name and return address to mail it off before heading into work the next morning.
Dear Elli Owens,
Hi there! I was very surprised to hear from you, but I’m incredibly happy you decided to reach out to me! Your grandfather’s name rung a bell, but I don’t have much of a memory of him, or most of the relatives on my mother’s side of the family, so it took me a while to figure it out.
But according to my dad, we are indeed related! George is the brother of my maternal grandmother. Pretty small world, huh? Who would’ve thought I’d find one of my cousins, here in the archipelago?
Oh, and I definitely second wanting to get to know each other! We should totally meet up sometime, and trade stories! Maybe over tea? Your address says you live over in Arcadia, and I work there a few days of the week, so perhaps we can meet then.
Sincerely, Lillie Springfield
Elli stared down at the letter, partially in disbelief. It was from Lillie.
To be honest Elli wasn’t wholly expecting a response. After all it’d been such a strange claim. And who wouldn’t be dubious about receiving a letter saying you’re a long lost relative? Perhaps she responded in kind, saying Elli (and her grandmother) were wrong and Lillie had no idea what they were talking about.
After a couple minutes of staring at the envelope  she finally opened it, her eyes quickly scanning its contents.
......
Well, she’d be darned. Granny Ellen was right. Without another moment to waste Elli hurried inside to pen a response.
Dear Lillie,
This is great! I would love to meet up and my grandmother would as well. We run the Baby Cakes Bakery on Arcadia and you’re more than welcome to visit! We can all have some tea and share stories. I can’t wait to hear how your side of the family ended up on Leuda.
Honestly, I’m really glad to find out we’re relatives. For the past ten years I thought it was just me and my grandma. Now I know we have more family out there. It’s a little sad we never knew about each other before.
I do hope you find the time to visit. Or if it’s easier I can make a trip to Leuda? (I’ll be honest, I’ve never visited before and I’m a little apprehensive about the journey.)
I look forward to your reply!
Sincerely, Elli

Grocery Run || Open
Elli was running a couple errands that afternoon including going to the post office, dropping off flowers to one of Granny’s life-long friends, and, of course, grocery shopping.
The bakery bought fresh produce and animal products from the local farms, but there were a few things items that didn’t include. She filled her cart with flour, sugar, oil, chocolate, and was on her way to grab some coffee.
She was so engrossed in her task she didn’t see the other hand grabbing for the same bag until they were both holding it.
Tumblr media
“Oh gosh, I’m sorry!” she said, quickly letting go of the person’s hand.

Starstruck || Iris & Elli
@flowerpowernovelist
Elli hid behind a bookcase, clutching a novel to her chest. This was it. It was now or never!
Tumblr media
She peeked around the shelves to see the blonde woman talking to a patron before Elli quickly hid again.
Who was she kidding, she had all the time in the world! There was no reason to rush... other than the fact the library closed in a few hours. But this was Iris Dupont. THE Iris Dupont. Author of one of Elli’s favorite novels: Yours, Always. The very book she held at that moment.
The blonde woman was a familiar face at the library, but not just because Elli was a frequent visitor. She’d always had a sinking suspicion she knew her from somewhere, but couldn’t place her finger on it. Not until she was reorganizing her bookshelves and say Iris’ face staring up at her from the back cover.
Perhaps it’d be odd for someone to bring their personal book to the library, but Elli was there on a mission; she was going to get Iris’ autograph. As long as the woman allowed it, of course.
But Elli was so nervous!
Tumblr media
Sure she’d talked to Iris before, but it was always as a patron and librarian relationship. This was different. No other author ever stepped foot on Arcadia--this was Elli’s chance to meet someone who penned one of the stories she absolutely loved.
What if Iris hated people asking for autographs? What if she hated Elli? That was a possible reality she was not prepared to face. But... what if the opposite happened? It’d been two weeks since Elli realized who Iris was. She left the house today determined to meet Iris as a fan and author.
‘Okay, in three seconds I’ll go say hi. One.... two... three... four...’
With a deep breath she turned the corner. Iris was no longer talking with another patron. It was now or never.
“Excuse me, M-miss Dupont?” Elli asked as she approached, “My name is Elli and I’m a huge fan and, uhm, if you don’t mind, couldyousignmyYours,Always?” Elli internally cringed. She was already off to a bad start.

Gone Fishing || Denny & Elli
@gofishingforluck
The world was quite, bathed in a hazy blue light, before the sun broke the horizon. Elli made her way to the pier, her cooler, tackle box, and fishing pole in tow. She stood before the docks began, her feet hesitant to leave solid ground.
She scanned the rows of boats, looking for one owned by a man with a mess of brown hair and amber eyes. She was a tad early--she could barely sleep the night before--but he’d assured her he, too, was a morning person.
Her gaze drifted off to the horizon, where the endless sea met the endless sky, bleeding into one. Her thoughts lingered on what lay hidden beyond that line. If her father had seen the sails with crossbones emerge from that convergence. Or if they came upon him as if floating up from the depths below.
Hearing footsteps interrupted the unwanted thoughts. She noticed movement on the pier now along with a familiar purple bandanna. Elli smiled, about to take a step forward before remembering she was still on solid ground. One more step and she’d be in uncharted waters.
She took a deep breath before stepping onto the docks. Every fiber of her being screamed, pleaded, with her to go back. That she was being stupid and this would be a huge mistake. Nothing good would come of this. Her heartbeat began to quicken and her breaths became a little shorter.
Tumblr media
“G-good morning, Denny,” Elli said with a practiced smile. “How’s everything looking? We shipshape?” Hopefully a conversation would help distract her mind.

Ondorus stood beside one of the many shelves of the Grand Oak Library, reshelving returned books. Every now and then, he paused, eyes lingering on the back cover of the book, interest sparking all through his face. A small smile would grace his lips, and he would reshelf it, making a mental note to read it when he was off the clock.
Working in a library had its perks, it would seem. He always enjoyed reading ever since he was young, and it was a hobby that did not dwindle over the over 100 years of his existence. It was more than the act of reading itself…it was more the act of learning. Learning about all the different places and subjects that the world had to offer. Learning about different cultures and lifestyles. And…about just what the hornless believed of his own race now…a simple fairy tale that nobody believed anymore.
It was as he shelved another book when he heard a crash. And then the sound of several books falling. He paused, sighing. Then, Ondorus set down what he was working on to walk over to the very source of it all. And when he arrived, he saw someone on the floor, books scattered all around them, as well as an empty row on the shelf in front of them.
Tumblr media
Well…he would have to reshelve those later. But first…
“Are you alright?” Ondorus asked, striding over and offering them a hand.
Elli loved the library.
It’d been her way of escape from her life on the small island. While she was... fine with her current circumstances, she still loved to explore the world through stories, whisking her far across the sea to new lands and people. It was like a breath of fresh air.
She perused the shelves, looking for a specific book when it caught her eye. Top shelf, red spine, sprawling white calligraphy. Elli reached for the book, but it was just out of reach. She stood on her tip-toes, balancing one foot and stretching her fingertips to the spine of the novel.
She-was-so-close-almost-there-GOT IT!
Tumblr media
Her achievement was short lived as she lost her balance.
Tumblr media
Her ankle gave way  and she was careening toward the floor. In a desperate attempt she tried to grab a shelf for balance, but that only brought a row of books to join her tumble.
Her body made an ugly THUD sound as it hit the floor, the books echoing in quick succession afterward.
She lied in silence after the commotion, her mind trying to convince herself that maybe nobody heard it.
“Are you alright?”
Tumblr media
Elli’s eyes locked onto the elven man standing before her. A librarian. Of course it had to be someone who worked there. Now every time she visited they’d see her and remember she was that girl who caused a ruckus in the library.
“Ah, yes,” Elli managed to reply, her cheeks starting to turn pink. She saw the man’s extended hand and took it after debating for a moment. “Thank you... and sorry. I’ll clean this up.”
After all it was the least she could do.

“I suppose ya got a point.” He chuckled, scratching the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. “I admit…I’m fairly attached to the original design of the bar itself but…hrm.. I suppose the name is a tad bit misleadin’? If ya know what I mean.” Moonlight cafe? It’s a karaoke jazz art deco type of bar, that doubled as a cafe. They did serve sweets, just a few. It offered quite a lot, and frankly the blonde felt like it ought to be a saloon like back home in West town. Yet, he’d feel like he was copying his friend Bradley.  “I’ll think more on it, but thank ya for your input!” Wayne smiled, appreciating the brunette’s advice, jolting down her words. “Fer me, I’d recommend the rib eye! But if ya not much of a meat eater…the garden salad is pretty good too. I like the banana peppers.” He kept that thought in mind, considering vegan options should be available to anyone. Helps…give a choice. “Now what may you be havin’, darlin’?”
Elli offered a smile, “Maybe an interestin’ name is a good thing. Makes people remember you.” It helped the bakery at least. That and Granny loved sharing the story behind it. And if Elli was being honest she loved to hear it.
“My pleasure,” Elli said. No harm in helping out a neighbor after all.
Hearing the question “what are you having” forced Elli’s mind to make a decision. While she wasn’t planning to eat something as filling as a steak, she couldn’t discredit that it’s what he recommended. Though, she did wonder how much was due to the taste or to the fact it was the most expensive item on the menu.
“Well, I’ll take your suggestion. I’d like the rib eye with a water and the cheesecake for dessert, please.” Truthfully Elli didn’t plan on eating the whole thing. Granny had explicitly told her to bring back some for her to try. Especially the dessert. Maybe Elli would order another dessert to go later.
As she handed the menu back to him she became curious about the stranger. Living in Arcadia her whole life and her grandmother being Queen of the Rumor Mill meant she generally knew the goings-on of the island. Including newcomers.
“I don’t mean to pry, but are you new to Arcadia?” Hopefully the fellow wouldn’t mind the conversation. Given his previous actions--finger guns included--he seemed to be of the friendly sort.

Stop and Smell the Roses || Licorice & Elli
@flower-of-oak-tree
Elli cleaned up the bakery early Saturday afternoon. She wanted to do a little something special for Granny. She’d been cooped up all week and she didn’t get many visitors, which always put her in a foul mood. So, Elli planned a little trip to a place that always cheered her up.
“Where are we going?” Granny asked, pouting as Elli pushed her wheelchair along.
“You’ll see,” Elli teased.
Soon enough the botanical garden became visible in the distance. When Granny saw it she started talking excitedly.
“I hope they have new flowers from last time,” Granny mused, “It’s always nice to see the creations of the Harvest Goddess.”
Elli wheeled Ellen into the main entrance of the Welcome Center. She looked around trying to find anyone who worked there. The first person she recognized was a woman about her age with long, dark braids. Elli had seen her a few times at the botanical garden before, though she didn’t know her by name.
“Excuse me, ma’am?” Elli said as she approached, “Do you work here?” While Elli did recognize the woman she could be just another guest at the facility.

Just Desserts || Komari & Elli
@sombersonata
Elli walked around the small bakery, putting things in order and wiping down the counters. There had been a rush earlier in the day and she finally had some time to straighten up the place. She didn’t mind working so much. In fact she was glad for the business. But a lull never hurt anyone, especially when it gave her time for a small break. However brief it may be.
Elli was in the middle of organizing the display cases when she heard the all-too-familiar chime of the bell, signalling a customer had entered.
“I’ll be right with you,” Elli said over her shoulder. After putting the last doughnut in place Elli closed the case and stood up. Brushing off her apron, she turned to the customer with a bright smile.
She instantly recognized the customer, “Good afternoon, Komari! How may I help you today?“

Long Lost Across the Sea || Lillie & Elli
@oaktreeweathergirl
It was a slow Sunday morning at the Owens household. Elli brought fresh hotcakes from the kitchen, placing them on the dining table. Adjacent to the table was the living room where Granny Ellen sat watching the weather channel.
“Granny, breakfast is ready,” Elli called to her, though she received no response. Setting the platter down, she glanced over to her elder who was engrossed with the television. Which was an odd thing for Granny to say the least.
Elli walked to stand next to her grandmother’s side, “Granny?”
Granny Ellen jumped slightly, looking up at her granddaughter with a small smile, “Sorry, Honey.” Elli turned to look at the television. It wasn’t even Arcadia’s weather station.
“Why are you watching Leuda’s forecast?”
“Oh, I wasn’t--” the comment made Elli panic and concerned for a split second before she continued “--Not really, anyway. I passed the channel and saw Lillie. She’s all grown up now. Finally got into the television business.” Elli looked to the screen to see a weathergirl with short brown hair and blue eyes. Sure enough her name was broadcasted at the bottom: Lillie Springfield.
“You know her?” Elli asked.
Granny Ellen looked up at Elli incredulously, “Of course I do! She’s your Grandpa George’s sister’s granddaughter.”
Elli asked, “You mean she’s my cousin?” as her eyes grew wide. All this time... she’d believed Granny Ellen was her only living relative. To think she had others--on Leuda even--and didn’t even know about it.
“Second cousin, technically speaking,” Granny said, raising from the chair and passing by Elli who was still staring at the weather channel. “C’mon dear, those things will rot your brain. We need to finish breakfast or we’ll be late to church.”

Later that day Elli slipped a letter into their mailbox for pickup. The envelope was addressed to the Leuda broadcasting station, attentioned to Lillie. Inside it read:
Dear Lillie Springfield,
I’m writing this letter because I was recently told we’re related. I think we’re cousins. Second cousins, actually. My grandmother, Eleanor Owens, wife of George Owens, said you were George’s sister’s granddaughter.
My grandma has been getting up there in age and so I can’t say for certain she isn’t remembering past events. To be quite honest I never knew I had other living relatives so this came as a huge surprise to me. At the same time it makes me dubious of her telling me now.
All in all I hope this letter finds you well. If you do have a grandmother with a brother named George Owens I’d love to get to know you!
Best Regards,  Elli Owens
