10 American Universities Join Metaverse Universities and colleges including Morehouse College, University of Kansas School of Nursing, New Mexico State University, South Dakota State University, West Virginia University, University of Maryland Global Campus and Southwestern Oregon Community College are creating ‘metacampuses’ using VictoryXR’s EngageVR platform. A Magic Leap 2 Enterprise version, with two-year support for enterprise-ready software, costs $4,999. Cambridge Medical Students Train with Holographic Patients Cambridge University has pioneered a technology to train future doctors with life-like scenarios. Medical students undergoing training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital are using a new mixed-reality training system to learn to treat holographic patients in a new world-first. The technology, called HoloScenarios, can be used in person with a group of classmates or online, with students able to assess the scenarios using their phones from anywhere around the world. According to the university, it is more cost-effective than traditional simulation, which requires the hiring of patient actors. Watch Furniture Get Deleted from a Room in Demo of Apple AR Tech A Shopify developer has shown a demonstration of an AR experience that lets users “reset” a room and remove all furniture, which gives a peek at the power of Apple’s recently announced RoomPlan AR API. The demonstration comes courtesy of Russ Maschmeyer from Shopify who published a series of Tweets that showcase the idea behind a new AR prototype that leans on Apple’s AR API. He refers to it as being able to hit the “reset button” on a room and see what it would look like completely empty of furniture. The demonstration shows how the technology scans a room using Apple’s RoomPlan API, a tool for developers that was showcased at WWDC earlier this year.
