🚨Protect yourself from credit card fraud🚨
How many times have you heard “Would you like to save 10% on your purchase today by applying for a XYZ credit card?”
Be mindful of the information that you provide at the register puts you at HIGH risk for credit card fraud. Consumers have reported receiving statements in the mail and accounts on their credit reports from stores not knowing the cashier or someone that may have been in earshot of the transaction used their information to apply for other cards. Here are some tips so this doesn’t happen to you.
1. Never provide your social security number verbally. I would suggest never apply for a card in-store. The savings for one purchase is not worth having to deal with identity theft.
2. If you receive a credit card or statement that you didn’t apply for, call the number on the back of the card immediately to cancel it and explain that you didn’t authorize or request a credit card from their company.
3. Report the fraud to the credit bureaus and request a free copy of your credit report. If the account has been reported and appears on your report, dispute the information in writing and be very specific. DO NOT DISPUTE ONLINE or ON THE PHONE‼️The credit bureaus have a responsibility to remove fraudulent information.
4. Request a fraud alert or security freeze be placed on your credit reports. This will require creditors to take the extra step to verify your identity before opening new accounts. A freeze will prevent prospective creditors from accessing your credit report.
To protect yourself from identity theft, we recommend requesting your free annual credit report and investing in a monthly credit monitoring service. We have partnered with Identity IQ to ensure our clients are protected.

🚨DID YOU KNOW🚨
A late payment could decrease your credit score as much as 100 points.☠️
By federal law, a late payment cannot be reported to the credit bureaus until it is at least 30 days past due. Your payment history is the largest factor that make up your credit score, so being 30+ days can have a huge negative impact on your score.
A late payment can remain on your credit report for 7️⃣ years.
Prevent additional late payments by
🎯contact your creditors to change your due dates if necessary
🎯set up calendar reminders for a few days before the bill is actually due
🎯set up automatic payments

💡Credit Tip: Credit Card Utilization💡
Credit utilization is the ratio of your credit card balance to your credit card limit. To calculate your credit utilization ratio, divide your credit card balance by your credit limit, then multiply by 100. A low credit utilization shows lenders that you are responsible with credit.
Credit utilization makes up 30% of your credit score. To manage your credit utilization, set up balance alerts that notify you if your balance exceeds a certain limit.
A high credit utilization won’t hurt your credit score forever. Once your utilization reaches 30% and below, your credit score will improve.

Think of your credit report like a report card. When lenders review it they are determining your credit worthiness. Just like a bad grade will keep you from making the honor roll...a low credit score will keep you from purchasing your dream home or car. Good credit will increase your buying power and give you the opportunity to have a better life.
