Bolton prepared to testify in Trump impeachment trial if subpoenaed
President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, John Bolton, said he is willing to testify in the Senate impeachment trial if subpoenaed, according to a statement he released Monday.
"The House has concluded its Constitutional responsibility by adopting Articles of Impeachment related to the Ukraine matter. It now falls to the Senate to fulfill its Constitutional obligation to try impeachments, and it does not appear possible that a final judicial resolution of the still-unanswered Constitutional questions can be obtained before the Senate acts," Bolton said.

Exclusive: Supreme Leader's military adviser says Iran's response will be 'against military sites'
Tehran, Iran (CNN)The military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader said Sunday that his country's response to the killing by the United States of one its most influential commanders will certainly be a military response "against military sites."
In an exclusive interview with CNN in Tehran, Hossein Dehghan, the military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, said: "The response for sure will be military and against military sites."
Dehghan, a former defense minister, is the main military adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and is very close to the Supreme Leader.
"Let me tell you one thing: Our leadership has officially announced that we have never been seeking war and we will not be seeking war," Dehghan said.
Tumblr media
"It was America that has started the war. Therefore, they should accept appropriate reactions to their actions. The only thing that can end this period of war is for the Americans to receive a blow that is equal to the blow they have inflicted. Afterward they should not seek a new cycle."

BEIJING -- The mysterious respiratory illness that has infected dozens of people in a central Chinese city is not SARS, local authorities said Sunday.
The 2002-2003 SARS epidemic started in southern China and killed more than 700 people in mainland China, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Fears of a SARS recurrence arose this month after a slate of patients were hospitalized with an unexplained viral pneumonia in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.
As of Sunday, 59 people were diagnosed with the condition and have been isolated while they receive treatment, according to the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission. Seven were in critical condition, while the rest were stable.

US military confirms terror attack on US base in Kenya
The U.S. military has confirmed that there has been a terror attack on a military base in Kenya that houses some U.S. military personnel. The Somali terror group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack that Kenyan authorities said had been repelled with four militants killed in the fighting.
“U.S. Africa Command acknowledges there was an attack at Manda Bay Airfield, Kenya and is monitoring the situation,” said U.S Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler in a statement. “Al-Shabab resorts to lies, coercion, and the exertion of force to bolster their reputation to create false headlines ...It is important to counter al-Shabab where they stand to prevent the spread of this cancer.”
The official did not provide information about any potential casualties at the Kenyan military base that has housed U.S. military personnel for years. It is unclear how many American personnel are stationed at the base that has reportedly been a site for U.S. special operations forces operating in Somalia.

He burned a church’s LGBTQ flag and got 16 years. They responded by advocating for him.
The hate-crime trial of Adolfo Martinez had been unusually volatile.
Unlike most defendants who try to stay out of jail, Martinez, 30, seemed to actively court punishment, Pastor Eileen Gebbie of Ames United Church of Christ observed. Martinez spoke out of turn. He made violent arm gestures. Yes, Martinez told the judge, he was indeed trying to make a statement about gay people when he ripped down AUCC’s rainbow-striped pride flag on June 11 and set it on fire in a nearby strip club parking lot. And no, he wasn’t sorry.
“He said he wants to ‘cut us out of the land of the living,’ ” Gebbie told The Washington Post on Friday as she recalled Martinez’s angry rhetoric targeting queer people like herself at a time when hate crimes against LGBTQ people have risen sharply over the past three years in cities throughout the United States.
On Wednesday, Martinez was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison on convictions of committing a hate crime, third-degree harassment and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender. Given that Martinez had a lengthy history of harassment and felony offenses and showed no remorse, Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds suggested the maximum possible sentence, to which the judge agreed.

Op-Ed: Navy corruption and the Gallagher case
Tumblr media
Special Warfare Operator Chief Edward “Eddie” Gallagher in Iraq in 2017. (courtesy photo)
In this partisan environment, people were quick to judge President Donald J. Trump’s reinstatement of anchors to my brother, Special Warfare Operator Chief Edward “Eddie” Gallagher.
Out of the woodwork came former military attorneys, indignant Pentagon officials and your typical Washington establishment types.
Their views were mainly the same. The president’s actions were a moral hazard! What message will it send our troops? What of good order and discipline?
I have one question for these people: Where in the hell were you the past year and a half?
Eddie’s case and court-martial trial revealed a massive cancer within the military justice system, doing irreparable damage to troop morale that may last decades.
I didn’t hear a damn thing from these harbingers of moral decency when that was exposed.
Where was their outrage when the Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents dragged my brother’s kids in the street at gunpoint in their underwear? (A fact NCIS denied to this very publication until under oath admitted that, yes, they did drag my nephews nearly naked into the streets of San Diego when Ed wasn’t home).
Where were these critics when investigators admitted Eddie’s entire pretrial imprisonment was based on a lie, forcing him to spend eight months in a sex offender brig for nothing?
Thanksgiving is nearing, so please imagine having to spend it like Ed did last year, greeting your kids in jail where they had to wear robes so they didn’t arouse other inmates.
Where were these guardians of moral decency when prosecutors spied on our attorneys?
When they hid exculpatory evidence?
Illegally leaked slanted information to the media to taint a jury pool?
Lied to members of Congress and then tried to cover it all up when they got caught?

Coffee Lounge: Right-wing host complains Mister Rogers modeled ‘metrosexual wimpiness’ and should’ve been more like John Wayne
‘If you really want to have a beautiful day in the neighborhood, call John Wayne and tell him to bring his guns’
Tumblr media
“The Daily Wire” host Andrew Klavan called out Fred Rogers this week for not being manly enough, opening his show on the right-wing website with a rant against the beloved TV personality who created and hosted the preschool hit “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” for more than 30 years.
The sweater- and sneaker-wearing Rogers endeared himself to viewers for decades by taking them around the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, which was populated by puppets, while discussing difficult topics like death and divorce, as well as peaceful ways to deal with negative, angry feelings.
But Klavan called the show “absolutely intolerable, unless you happen to be a 3-year-old” — which, in the defense, many of the viewers were — “or a mom who needed to plant her 3-year-old in front of the TV while she took a cigarette break.”
Hi, neighbor!
It only gets less PG from there, with Klavan expressing concern that Rogers was a poor influence on impressionable young men:

Coffee Lounge: 'Deaths of despair': Opioid overdoses, alcohol abuse and suicide driving lower life expectancy in US
Tumblr media
Life expectancy, often considered to be a barometer for a nation's overall health, has dropped for the third year in a row in the United States, and it's primarily because of an increase in drug overdose deaths, alcohol abuse and suicide, a new study has found.
Although life expectancy in the U.S. increased by almost 10 years between 1959 and 2016, to 78.9 years from 69.9 years, that progress began to slow down in the 1980s and plateaued in 2011, according to the study, published in JAMA.
"Life expectancy has been increasing in industrialized countries for a century. But it's been a while now that the U.S. has been falling behind other countries," said Dr. Steven Woolf, director emeritus of the Center on Society and Health at Virginia Commonwealth University and one of the study's authors. "Meanwhile, in the other wealthy countries, it continues to increase."
Woolf's study found a number of reasons for this increase in deaths among people ages 25 to 64 — a period the study authors called "midlife" — ranging from chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes to drug and alcohol abuse. But the largest increases in deaths were from drug overdoses, alcohol abuse and suicide, Woolf said.

Breaking News: Supreme Court blocks House from receiving Trump financial records for now
Tumblr media
Washington (CNN)The House of Representatives will not get President Donald Trump's financial records for now, the Supreme Court said on Monday.
The ruling is a win for Trump, who is fighting on several fronts to shield the records from becoming public.
In a brief order, the court granted the President's emergency request to block a subpoena from House Democrats to his long-time accounting firm from moving forward. There were no noted dissents.
The justices set up an expedited briefing schedule to hear arguments from both sides on whether the court should agree to hear Trump's appeal this term. The President must file his opening brief on or before December 5.
The House has said it could move forward with an impeachment vote by the end of December.
This story is breaking and will be updated.

Coffee Lounge: Female bodybuilder, 82, beats home intruder so badly he had to be taken to hospital
Tumblr media
An 82-year-old award-winning female bodybuilder turned the tables – literally – on a home intruder and beat him so badly after he broke into her house that he had to be taken to the hospital.
Willie Murphy says she was getting ready for bed in her home in Rochester, New York, at around 11 p.m. when she heard pounding on her front door.
“[A man] was outside saying please call an ambulance because I’m sick, I’m sick,” Murphy told ABC Rochester affiliate WHAM.
Murphy ended up calling police to get the man the help he requested but she didn’t let the man inside, which caused him to become angry, she said.
“I hear a loud noise, I’m thinking, ‘what the heck was that,’” Murphy said. “The young man is in my home. He broke the door.”
Murphy, who said she can deadlift 225 pounds and recently won a weightlifting competition earlier this year, was shocked but unperturbed.
“He picked the wrong house to break into,” she said.

While Everyone In DC Talks About Ukraine, There’s An Actual War Going On
A memorial for Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war.
NOVOOLEKSANDRIVKA, Ukraine — When he’s not engaged in gun battles with Russian-led forces on Ukraine’s eastern front line, Stas, a scruffy 26-year-old soldier, likes to cozy up in his bunker and brush up on his English skills by watching Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live. He cracks up at Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of President Donald Trump.
Watching political satire on American TV — when he’s able to get a strong enough signal on the battlefield to access YouTube — is also how Stas learned that Trump had frozen $391 million in US security aid meant for the Ukrainian armed forces over the summer. The news made him angry. The fighting was hot at the time, and he and his fellow soldiers were stuck with mostly crappy, old gear.
Oleksandr, a Ukrainian soldier on the front lines of the war.
“Look at this. It’s old and falling apart,” he complained of his Ukrainian government–issued bulletproof vest in accented English. It was barely stitched together and slouching on one side. “It’s a piece of shit.”
There’s one thing Stas and the soldiers in Ukraine’s 72nd Mechanized Brigade positioned in the village of Novooleksandrivka do have, which they say has helped them spot enemy soldiers who creep within grenade-throwing range of their trenches at night: a pair of US-made night vision sights.
The only problem? They don’t fit on the Ukrainian rifles.
