Speaking to Adam Boulton on All Out Politics on Sky News, he added the presidential candidate would reignite Franco-German relations that had been the “driving force” of the EU.

Host Boulton jokingly asked him: “What about relations with your friends across the Channel in the United Kingdom?"

He replied: “I will be able to have a decent life in France, have an education that’s paid for, have a health system that doesn’t depend on how rich I am.”

When asked if he agreed with Front National leader’s “protectionist” outlook, Mr Begon-Lours said: “I think in today’s world with all this competition from countries with lower social systems, which don’t respect workers rights as we do, it’s essential we have a state to protect us.”

The comments come after he insisted it Ms Le Pen was still in the running to become president despite defeated candidates François Fillon and Benoît Hamon endorsing Emmanuel Macron.

He insisted it was “not that clear” and added: “The French people will get a chance finally after five years of waiting to decide if they want to go forward with unrestricted globalisation or if they want to defend their identity.”

The interview follows Ms Le Pen taking 21 per cent and Mr Macron taking 23.8 per cent of the votes in the first round of the French election.

OAP, 84, killed in a fireball 'sparked when he rubbed his hands on petrol-soaked clothes'

It is thought Mr Saunders' petrol-soaked clothes ignited after a spark of static electricity

Fred Saunders, 84, sustained severe and fatal burns during the freak accident at his home while he was draining the tank of his camper van following a small petrol leak.

During the work, his fleece jacket and trousers became covered in fuel.

And it is understood his clothes then ignited through the static electricity caused when he tried to wipe his hands clean.

The former pub landlord had been a racing driver, pilot, sailor, deep-sea welder and farmer before retiring.

Mr Saunders’ mechanical skills were shown off on TV when he was used as an expert guide on “Salvage Squad” – the Channel 4 restoration show hosted by Madness frontman Suggs.

His partner, Sue Read, 72, told how she was able to put out the flames and call the emergency services after the tragic accident at their home near Yeoford, Devon, at around 7.30pm on Sunday, April 16.

She said: “I had been watering the plants and was not observing. I think I was aware of something.

"I have been trying to work it out and I cannot – it was just a blur.

"He was working on a vehicle – his old camper van – and then whoosh.

"I just went numb – I turned into a transfixed rabbit in the head lights.

"I could not think. I just thought, 'where is the water? Do I get water?'.

"I called the emergency services. Everybody was so brilliant. He was a lovely bloke. Kind, generous – and stubborn.

"There was a right way, wrong way and Fred's way. He was a one off.

"A very, very practical man. Lots of people are saying he was a legend.“

Mr Saunders leaves behind three children, Dave, Leslie and Marion, six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Ms Read was full of praise for all those who had helped Fred, including the firefighters, paramedics, ambulance staff, police and the nurses at the hospital.

She said: “Everyone was brilliant and they all deserve congratulations.“

Kelly Tolhurst, reiterated that people who voted for Ukip in the 2015 General Election, must now vote for the Conservatives to deliver Brexit.

Speaking to Sunday Politics South East, the Tory MP claimed the Conservatives were the only party capable of securing Brexit for the UK.

She said: “I voted to trigger Article 50 in the House of Commons.

“Everything that I have said since the referendum where by constituents were very clear that they wanted to leave Europe, I have supported that decision.

Ms Tolhurst, who is MP for Rochester and Strood, won her seat after winning a by-election following Mark Reckless defecting to Ukip in 2014.

The Tory, who voted to Remain in the EU referendum, insisted that she would not be punished by her constituency, which voted to Leave.

She added: “I think for people who have voted Ukip, who wanted Brexit, the right choice for them is to vote Conservative.

The Prime Minister has defended her decision to call a snap election in June, reiterating it is in the best interests of the British people.

The scenes took place on BBC’s Sunday Politics, as Ms Abrahams instead the Labour Party was united and fit to take on Theresa May’s Government in the General Election.

The MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth said: “That’s not the case, you’re making a generalisation. The policy platform is absolutely the right one to do and people are absolutely, we had a really constructive PLP meeting on Monday, everybody is behind what we stand for.”

Appearing utterly unable to help himself, Mr Rutley interrupted: “Will there be a picture of Corbyn in your literature?”

The PM sent waves through political Britain last week as she called for a General Election to be held on June 8.

In a fiery speech, Mrs May shut down bitter Remainers for trying to talk Brexit, as she said a vote would give her Government a mandate to take in the EU in exit talks.

President Xi Jinping has called for restraint regarding Nroth Korea in a phone called with Trump

President Trump sent the carrier group for exercises in waters off the Korean peninsula as a warning, amid growing fears North Korea could conduct another nuclear test in defiance of United Nations sanctions.

Angered by the approach of the USS Carl Vinson carrier group, a defiant North Korea said on Monday the deployment was “an extremely dangerous act by those who plan a nuclear war to invade”.

“The United States should not run amok and should consider carefully any catastrophic consequence from its foolish military provocative act,” Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, said in a commentary today.

“What's only laid for aggressors is dead bodies,” the newspaper said.

Two Japanese destroyers have joined the carrier group for exercises in the western Pacific, and South Korea said on Monday it was also in talks about holding joint naval exercises.

The United States and its allies fear North Korea could be preparing to conduct another nuclear test or launch more ballistic missiles.

China is North Korea's sole major ally but has been angered by its nuclear and missile programmes and is frustrated by Pyongyang's belligerence.

China, which has repeatedly called for the de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, is increasingly worried the situation could spin out of control, leading to war and a chaotic collapse of its isolated, impoverished neighbour.

President Xi told President Trump in their latest telephone conversation that China resolutely opposed any actions that ran counter to UN Security Council resolutions, the Chinese foreign ministry said.

The nuclear issue could only be resolved quickly with all relevant countries pulling in the same direction, and China was willing to work with all parties, including the United States, to ensure peace, President Xi said.

The issue has gained added urgency as North Korea prepares to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its Korean People's Army on Tuesday. It has marked similar events in the past with nuclear tests or missile launches.

How would the Liverpool starting XI look made up only of local players?

Hopewiser have conducted a study generating a starting XI for each Premier League club using only local players, and some of the line-ups raise a few eyebrows.

A proximity tool was used to identify clubs within a 30 mile radius of where Premier League and Championship players were born.

The local players have to be included in their primary or secondary position, while FIFA ratings were used to give the closest clubs first pick of the better players.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may have chased a couple of these players in the past, but the majority of the personel here wouldn't get close to the current Liverpool set-up.

Boss Craig Shakespeare had hoped it was cramp but he will now be without the centre-back for Wednesday's clash at the Emirates. He said: "Unfortunately Wes won't make it. He has just overstretched his hamstring. It hasn't gone into a full blown pull but we have to be mindful. So as a precaution he is out then we will look towards Saturday." Midfielder Nampalys Mendy is also now sidelined for the rest of the campaign after having an operation to finally resolve his long-term ankle problem.

"We have to make sure we look after our own club. You are not sure what's round the corner." But Shakespeare dismissed any suggestions Arsenal, seventh in the table, are in crisis after their 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City. He added: "Seeing the Arsenal match it didn't look like turmoil to me, there were players fighting and they thoroughly deserved the win in the end, even though it was a close game."

And Shakespeare says the double-success proves Leicester’s scouts are among the best in the business.

Gwenda Hussey stole more than £500,000 from the firm she worked for

Gwenda Hussey, rose from bookkeeper to financial controller in just five years at an events management firm in Kingston-upon-Thames, south west London.

The 53-year-old, from Twickenham, south west London, transferred just under £510,000 from the company's expense account into her own bank over 720 transactions from May 2010 to November 2015.

Kingston Crown Court heard how Hussey also took just over £23,000 from the firm's current account between the same dates.

The court was told that Hussey was a trusted employee at the unnamed firm but came under investigation after using its taxi account for a personal trip.

When the firm investigated payments from its expense account it found more than half-a-million pounds had been paid into Hussey's bank account.
