loyalenchanter:
Magnus beamed as Luke brought up Jocelyn; he missed her dearly but her memory was still as bright as ever. “This also involves magic. I’m sure some of it is helping this hurt less–and trust me, it isn’t a cakewalk.” Was anything he do one? Magnus arched his brow at the whiskey but didn’t comment. He knew better than to.
“The question begs to ask,” Luke waited a moment to add tension. He was sure Magnus had been bombarded with an enormous amount of intrusive questions so the time taken between setting it up and asking was purely for jokes sake. Luke would never intrude on anyone’s privacy like that. “Is the magic negating the heartburn or do you just not have it?” He grinned and knocked his knuckles against the table. “No heartburn means you’re going to pop out a bald baby, Magnus.”

Magnus hummed in total agreement. His motto was–why have ill intentions when you could be kind? He dropped his gaze to his stomach as Luke spoke, palm gently caressing the growing baby inside. “The fun sized peanut loves your cooking, Chef Garroway, and wishes they could eat it all the time.”
Luke let out a stifled laugh. “If only Jocelyn had such a good time when she was pregnant. I remember she always had heartburn. I think that’s why Clary’s hair is so firey.” He reached for a glass tumbler and poured himself a few fingers worth of whiskey.
After a nod, he downed it.

Magnus smiled, actually picking up a piece of tofu with his fork and eating it. “You’ve always been a good person, it’s true. One of the few.” He knew that even when Luke was jaded because of his Parabatai, he had good intentions. Not many Shadowhunters, even former ones, were like that.
“There’s never a good enough reason not to be a good person in my book.” He said, taking a seat across from Magnus. “So, do you and the fun sized peanut find the meal agreeable?” He pointed to Magnus’ ever growing belly.

Magnus was so extremely nervous at what was happening leagues away in Idris that he didn’t really hold any wish or will to eat, but he knew his old friend was only trying to help so he didn’t feel the need to voice his concerns. “Thank you, Luke, I’m sure it’s great.” Magnus stabbed at the tofu, knowing that even if it wasn’t the best tofu he’d ever had, Luke was still an amazing chef. “Really, you didn’t have to do this for me.” He understand that as the newly appointed pregnant person of the group, he’d be allotted a lot of time to be babied whether he liked it or not.
“Actually I do or else half the Warlock counsel would have my ass.” He smiled. “Plus, why wouldn’t I want to watch out for a friend? Cook him a meal? It’s just what I do.” Luke shrugged.

“I tried my best.” Luke looked down at the food he’d just finished plating. “I can’t say I’ve ever cooked tofu before. Well…not anymore obviously.” Since he wasn’t apart of the groups looking for the lost, and since there was nothing left to do but monitor his pack and make sure they didn’t try to find Gretel themselves, he’d been left to Lightwood’s instruction…and Loss’ and Santiago and probably Fell if he’d been there: watch Magnus.
Luke sat the plate down in front of Magnus. “I can get some stir fried veg if you’d rather.”

Meliorn arched a brow, “Oh is it? By your invisible best friend, I presume?” The fae chucked as he sipped at his drink, eyes still taking into this new downworlder. “Haven’t seen you around here before.”
“You got me there. Still doesn’t mean it’s not taken though.” Luke grunted, shoulders hunching closer over his own drink. With a sniff disguised as a sniffle, he determined this person wasn’t a Vampire or one of his own. His eyes scanned over him, no runes. “What are you doing in a place like this?” It didn’t dawn on him that he could be a fae. There were no fae in Alicante and Luke had lead a very sheltered life up until now.

She giggled “I knew you’d like that part.” Maia looked at the man who took her in “I have to thank you again for helping me out with this…wolf thing.”
“It happens sometimes. Especially after shifts when you chow down on one too many things.” Luke couldn’t help but laugh. Werewolf stomachs could be just as temperamental as their shifts. “If you keep thanking me we’re going to have to make it a pattern. You’re spoiling me with these daily occurrences, Maia.” The pack leader smiled gently. “It’s my job. And not because I’m the alpha.” Luke always had a heart for helping others.

Life still felt so new. Senses that even with runes hadn’t been this sharp nearly threw the wolf into overload. Lights. Scents. General human reaction. He knew he was stronger than most after his first turn. It was proven by how he’d been able to challenge and win the pack in Brocelind Forest so fast and then again in New York. But just because he was strong and knew how to lead didn’t mean he genuinely felt ready to. That was why he was here tonight, in a bar. Surrounded by the blissful anonymity of lonely souls looking to get even more lost.
“That seat’s taken.” He grumbled. It wasn’t. Luke had lost all his friends in the shift thanks to one Valentine Morgenstern.
It was unusual to see new faces these days. In fact, it was more normal to not see familiar faces around ever again–or they’d turn up dead. Valentine Morgenstern was no joke, and that was why most of the fae–Meliorn himself included, hid out in the Seelie Glade where Valentine couldn’t find them. But not tonight, tonight Meliorn felt like going out and finding something interesting.
He was lucky, as it turned out. Sitting at the bar was what appeared to be a brand spanking new werewolf, and a handsome one at that. So tonight would definitely be interesting. Sliding into the barstool next to this person, Meliorn ordered another drink from the grumpy looking bartender.

“You’re lucky that I just run the pack that works here instead of actually run the place.” Luke couldn’t help but laugh. “An extra dose of explosive diarrhea...that’s funny.”
She was deep in her book when she felt someone join her in the booth “Welcome to the Jade Wolf today’s Specials are food poisoning with an extra dose of explosive diarrhea and egg rolls.” Maia looked up from her book at her guest then gave a small smile.

Meliorn shrugged, “You are also a leader. I take no part in the ruling of the rest of the Fae–I just do as the Queen says.” Seelie politics were particular and uneasy; if you took just a toe out of line the Queen could dismember you with barely a flick of her wrist. There was a lot of horror behind the beauty. “I do not wish to be an enemy either, Lucian. I wasn’t planning on leaving the Glade.” Meliorn wasn’t one to pick fights with other Downworlders unless it was necessary.
“Well spoken Meliorn. I agree with this idea of sticking to the Glades. We stick to our respective corners so no one,” Luke was guilty of letting his eyes linger towards the huddle of Shadowhunters, “blames us.”

Meliorn cocked his head, hiding his displeasured sneer. “We weren’t even invited to this…show of violence. Why should we be keeping a low profile when we were clearly not the perpetrators of this crime?” He crossed his arms and eyed the wolf. “You sound like one of them, Garroway.”
“When a rogue wolf, that isn’t one of mine, loses their mind and tears a mundane, do you think I parade my pack down 40th street? We weren’t the ones who tore a mundie to pieces.” He said, tossing Meliorn’s logic back at him. “I’m not trying to make an enemy out of you. Downworlders have to stick together.” He reminded softly, voice low. The last thing he wanted to be overheard was that saying; it could be seen as a traitorous remark seeing that Shadowhunters were taken as well.

Luke took a deep breath. “That wasn’t what I was saying.” He grunted. “What I was saying was I suggest you and the rest of the Courts keep a low profile. This wouldn’t be the first hectic Seelie interaction and the last thing we need is a war.”
“If you’re implying that the Seelie are involved, I advise that you rethink your next words.”

“Didn’t exist anymore?” Luke gave her a look. “You must be hungrier than you look.” The pack leader set his steaming fresh plate of pork mai fun in front of her. “Eat up, little pup.” He said with a teasing smile.
“Who would have thought ten year ago that there would come a day when Shadowhunters practically didn’t exist anymore? I certainly didn’t.”

adroit-angel:
“Oh, I’m sure he’s past the staring by now, Luke” she giggled, shaking her head. He was right though, she’d caught Simon on more than one occasion just watching her from across the room as she read a book or did something else so mundane with the dopiest smile on his face. It was adorable, really. Not that she told Simon that. While Isabelle loved shopping, she wasn’t as materialistic as others often might have thought. She’d have been happy if he drew a ring on her finger with marker, after all. But she was glad she had a ring, because in a way it was like she was carrying a piece of Simon everywhere she went. “Nothing too exciting? Luke, you were offered Police Chief. I’d say that’s pretty exciting. And I’m sure you’d give it a really good shot” she smiled gently, not everybody liked being promoted and she trusted Luke to know what was best for him. “I’m great, getting back into the swing of things at the Institute is a little tough after a year out but I’m getting there”
“If he’s past the staring then you need to reconsider.” Luke answered very candidly. He’d known Jocelyn all his life and she still managed to take his breath away each and every day before her passing. His chest ached like a sparse wind through a dense forest. “Jace giving you a hard time?” Jace had taken the role of Head after Alec stepped down with Aline Penhallow studying beneath the blonde for future placement. “I imagine the jet lag alone is unbearable.”
