Meet Seb  3rd year apprentice
Tumblr media
🛠️Why did you take up carpentry as a career? I took up carpentry because it was something that always caught my eye growing up. My grandpa is also a carpenter, and he is a big inspiration to me and my goals in life.
🛠️What do you think makes you a good carpenter? I think I’m a good carpenter because I’m always persistent in doing my best, and following through to the next task.
🛠️What do you like about your job? I love being able to go to work and learn something new everyday. I also love watching jobs and structures come together. I feel a real pride in what I do and seeing the end result.
🛠️What do you do for fun? I ride motorbikes, go 4wding/camping and of course hang out with the misses.
🛠️Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Hopefully owning/starting my own successful business and definitely my own house.

SHOULD DECKING RIDGES FACE UP OR DOWN??
The reeded side of the timber boards make for interesting patterns that look sleek and pleasing, thus begging some people to install them face up.
People also lay the decking timber ridge side up because they think that the ridges help increase traction and make the deck less slippery.
However, the proper way to install a board is ridge side down. The ridges, are designed to let air circulate underneath the boards.
This prevents the buildup of moisture and consequently, mould.
The ridges are not there to keep you from slipping and sliding around your deck. Nor are they intended to make your deck look nice.
They are there as a structural feature to improve its longevity.

WE WANT WESTERN SYDNEY/LOWER BLUE MOUNTAINS TO THRIVE
At Next Gen, we love where we live! Most of us have grown up in the Lower Blue Mountains & Penrith area. We care about our community and want to help keep its future bright.
We do this in two ways - by supporting community events and the local economy.
Keeping jobs local
We make a point of using local trades people, people who live in the towns we build in. Some of our tradesmen have worked with Ash for over 10 years. We also inject over one million dollars into the local economy each year through the support we offer local businesses.
Sponsoring good causes
Next Gen gets behind a range of sporting, cultural and educational events across the region. We support our future trade’s person through work experience and apprenticeship programs.
These programs offer high school students the opportunity to witness the working life of a trade’s person, so they can reflect on the experience when considering future career directions.

HAVE AN ARCHITECT DESIGN YOUR PLANS
Our staff know how much building materials and design elements cost. That’s why Architects are happy to team with us, and you, when designing your new home or renovation.
You might expect working with an architect to be expensive, but it adds very little to the cost of a new home.
Using an architect means you can:
achieve something striking or unusual in style
use unusual building materials
make the most of a block that’s an unusual shape
design your house around established trees
It’s also a great idea if you want to:
make the most of an outlook
achieve extremely high energy efficiency
ensure specific rooms bask in northerly sun
enjoy views to internal courtyards, maybe from a spa
If you would like to explore this options then contact us today. http://ow.ly/N0pdN

Renovating Tip: HAVE A MASTER PLAN IN 2017
Having a well-developed plan for your renovation is imperative.
Two age-old adages come to mind when thinking about a master plan....
"BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND" – what is it you want to achieve and  "IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN YOU  PLAN TO FAIL" – pretty much speaks for itself!
A master plan is typically a drawing that takes a comprehensive look at the entire house and site, focusing on the relationships between individual parts rather than the details.
With a master plan you can take the necessary steps to ensure that your renovation and existing area are connected as a WHOLE – in terms of structure and design.
Some things to consider in your master plan are privacy, sun orientation, views and architectural composition.
