HOURS 10-15
Final Edit
Here is a screenshot of the final edit. I have taken unnecessary clips out and recolour coded. I also made sure the music linked in with the final piece making sure every beat was in time with what was going on on the screen.
BLACK STUDIO
I spent most the hours today in the black studio setting up a projector and switching between a giant white t-shirt and bare skin to project the sound waves onto. The idea was to create a panic attack atmosphere this is why I decided to go in the black studio - to help create this atmosphere.
First Edit
The first edit consisted of scaling the video so there was no shadow, borders or extra parts in the clip using the scale tools. I also edited the video down and experimented with speeds.
Colour Correcting
I then colour corrected my video. I didn’t want to edit the waves in anyway since the movement and colour was the most important aspect of the clip. What I did was intensify the colour and play around with the satuations to make sure the video was a dark as well was colourful as possible.

HOURS 5-10
Initial Edit
Here is a screenshot of the first edit. I have assembled all the footage together and editing it into scenes that I am happy with. I have decided that I wanted to create a cinematic slow-motion effect. How I did this was by slowing down each piece of footage by a certain percentage.
The start of Colour Correcting
Here is a screenshot of the beginning of the colour correcting process. The footage was filmed over a few days and with it being in a forest has different shades of lights and shadows. By colour correcting, I have been able to make the film have somewhat of continuity feel to it. I started by using a mixture of Lumetri Colour effects and playing around with the RGB colour wheel. I was able to use the curves section and red channels to pull shadows and create light.
Colour Waves
Here is a screenshot of the colour waves. This helped me make sure that my film wasn’t colour washed to one colour (e.g. too yellow or too blue). This showed the movement of the footage in the waveform.
Colour Waves Project
I was really intrigued using the colour waves and decided to screen record the waves and see if I could use it anyway in my work. While editing the waves as a stand-alone video I came up with the idea of projecting the waves onto pieces of skin and using it as heartbeat or representation of panic and stress. I decided to overlay the footage twice one going the correct way and another on top flipped this came across abstract and no one would guess that it is my original film in the form of waves.
The Final Film
After editing the stand-alone wave film I returned to my original film and continued colour correcting. I have decided to go with a brown atmosphere to help darken overexposed shots and keep the shadows. Overall I am happy with the way aesthetically my film has come out. I believe that I was able to successfully create a slow atmosphere whilst colour correcting it in a way that isn’t too harsh.
Adding Music
I ended this session by adding music to the footage. I am still undecided if this is going to stay because I believe it creates a great atmosphere but if it is the atmosphere that I am after. I was mixing in different sounds so the footage was in time with the non diegetic sound

HOURS 1-5
Experimentations for Photoshoot 1
I started off by finishing off two experimentations for Photoshoot 1 that were outstanding. This two collages had the theme of yellow and featured the remaining photos from the shoot.
Experimentations for Photoshoot 3
The main bulk of the first 5 hours of my 15 were spent creating experimentations for photoshoot 3. I wanted to create found footage that linked to the idea of agoraphobia; as if someone was trapped inside their whole life and was never able to leave. I did this by using the noise effect and distorted shear to recreate an old VHS style screenshot. I believe that these have come out successful.
GIFs for Photoshoot 3
To go alongside the VHS screenshots I wanted to create a GIF that has a noise transition from the original photo and the experimentation. I believe that these came out successful.
Exam Short Film Screenshots
Here is a screenshot of my timeline from when I was editing and assembling the first scene. I was able to use the Razor tool to trim and assemble my footage together.
Here is a screenshot of my timeline from when I was going through the premier pro effects to colour correct my films. I went with a theme that is associated with the early 2000′s to create a homely environment but still clear and sharp footage. The colour effects have turned out warm which I am somewhat happy with. During the next part, I am going to experiment with cool tones to see which creates the correct atmosphere.
Here is a screenshot of me editing in the clips together with the podcast I found talking about living with depression over the top. The soundwaves and the clips are in time meaning when a different quote is spoken or if a key changes in the background music it is in sync with the footage. You can also tell from this screenshot the purple boxes on the footage. This represents the colouring I did of the clips. Another feature I have added is using the audio from the footage (Diegetic) mixed in with the Podcast (Non-Diegetic); this is to help create atmosphere.

Martine Syms
Martine Syms born in Los Angeles in 1988 is a professional photographer and videographer. Her artwork has been exhibited and screened extensively, including presentations at the Museum of Modern Art, Hammer Museum, ICA London, New Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and The Studio Museum in Harlem, among other institutions. She has lectured at Yale University, SXSW, California Institute of the Arts, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, and MoMA PS1, among other venues. Syms’ recently presented exhibitions include Projects 106: Martine Syms, Museum of Modern Art; Borrowed Lady, Simon Fraser University Galleries, Vancouver; Fact and Trouble, ICA London; COM PORT MENT, Karma International, Los Angeles; Vertical Elevated Oblique, Bridget Donahue Gallery, New York.
Martine Syms, works in video, photography, installation, performance, and publishing. Often using double-sided photographs mounted on c-stands, Syms sources her images from family photos, advertisements, and films, often contemplating on how black figures are portrayed in the media. “People act like art is a white thing – or not for people of colour – when really so much culture and art comes from people of colour. I want everyone to get into what I am doing. So sometimes I don’t like to work just in an art context because” – “it feels like a lot of people aren’t going to see it. I like it to be a part of everyday life. It is for me.” From my understanding of this quote Sym’s creates her pieces for Fine Art purposes but also to help raise awareness. She has the opinion that people don’t understand her vision so she creates her pieces to express what she is thinking. I believe that this is incredibly important because it is expressive and brings awareness to an important matter but it is done in such a creative yet sensitive way it works.
I believe that the underlying genre has elements of Environment and portraiture with semi abstract aspect to it. Syms describe herself as a hoarder, of what she calls “orphaned media” – old home videos and family photos. When I see this piece the aesthetic of her work comes across of a hoarder, the use of old photos, clips and memories blown up on a huge scale (as soon above) looking like found memories is incredibly interesting. I believe a major aspect of the work is the idea of culture. I know that Syms works on how black figures are portrayed in the media and I believe that the unusual composition of using multiple mediums is one of the strongest elements because it intrigues the audience and lets you become somewhat part of the piece. Visually it is interesting with the negative space mixed with the strong colours because it helps raise the awareness that Syms is trying to achieve.

Eleanor Pecorella
I have chosen this image from Eleanor Pecorella because I love the simplicity but creativity that it leads. The colour palette works extremely well together and the position of the models work well. I have been inspired by this image because I am looking into mental health and the idea of the mind is more powerful than the body and I believe that this image represents this idea successfully.
