ranking the best things I have heard surgeons say mid-surgery:
1. "Five second rule!" while scrubbed, after dropping a sterile scalpel on the floor (no they did NOT pick it up again but I swear everyone's buttholes puckered)
2. (spoken during the closing of a particularly long and difficult case) "Nurse - my tunes." :heavy metal starts blasting:
3. Gently to a fretful patient, pre-anaesthesia: "It's going to be okay. I promise, I've dealt with worse." As soon as the patient is unconscious: "This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen."
4. [okay this one was a med student] "Wowwww, that's so gross!!" Reg: "Please remember that [patient] is awake for this procedure." Student to patient: "Oh my god. I am so sorry, that was really unprofessional - " Patient, cheerfully, also engrossed with what's happening inside them on the screen: "Nah - it's, like, super gross, right?"
5. [another procedure where the patient couldn't be put under GA] Patient: *starts singing country roads midway through the procedure* Surgeon: *shrugs and joins in with surprisingly good harmony*

MENTAL DISORDER!!!!!!!!!!
It always grinds my nerves when I see people not understand the story that speaks to me on all levels, including spiritual, and reduce it to "this guy bad, this guy good". IT is so well written it's even embarrassing to talk about it so simplistic. You have to really understand his perspective
Ryuki so fucking obviously has a bipolar disorder it can't be spelled out more clearly
and major self-esteem issues starting in childhood
He is suffering from a lot of mental problems, and they are severe enough to make him unable to leave his bed so reducing him to just a guy who can't understand that music is not a viable career option for him is IDIOTIC. He is not some stupid idiot who can't comprehend reality. That IS his reality. His self-esteem is that low, he doesn't believe he can do anything else to the point that his entire identity is built around his band. He can't abandon himself. Like, when you look at the story, music is like... THE LAST THING HE HAS. He dropped out of high school, and he quit his job. And just because he is smiling in those panels, it doesn't mean that the constant failures are not affecting him
It is rather obvious that music isn't just a career option to him, it is the only damn thing left. Nothing else has ever worked but he stuck to music. Without music he is nothing. So when his bandmates quit, he takes it extremely personally. You can feel jealousy in his voice. He can't just drop it and live the life they are living. He doesn't have any other options (or at least he feels like he doesn't). And it sort of is destructive (maybe even toxic) because it will hurt him to see them succeed. But isn't this what he was doing his entire life? Seeing people graduate from school, graduate from college, get jobs. Live a happy, normal life. He can't have normal. He can't be calm looking at people leaving him to go and do something he can't
What is also curious, he wasn't even the one who formed the band. Which might check out since he is the guy without dreams or goals. But it seems that maybe being in a band, he started actually dreaming about something
so when it all comes crashing down, it hurts a million times more than it would if he had never started to dream in the first place
And it seems like he had support but frankly the support he had sucked. Even if everyone had the best intentions it sucked
When he is having episodes, people brush it off and tell others to just ignore it. Yes, they are concerned but never concerned enough to actually reach out to him and try to help
Ryuki loses the last thing he believed he had, his band falls apart, he is in the slums. And in some sort of sick joke people are saying he needs "a rest". And they talk about it like they are being so so kind
Like, I am sorry. He doesn't need "a rest", he needs years-long therapy, change of medication, good support system and people who fucking believe in him. It's so humiliating to suffer from something so debilitating and then see people too scared to even acknowledge you need treatment. They just say shit like "rest". He is not fucking tired! This is not exhaustion! And this speaks to me so much honestly because it is what it's like to have a mental illness! I be going through the worst times in my life and my parents would be saying stuff like "so like what's next after you rest up are you getting a job". GIRL. THERE IS NO NEXT
And some shit they are saying is straight-up triggering. Like, how out of touch with reality you have to be to tell a severely mentally ill person that they are "in their prime". Girl. He is at his fucking lowest
(will continue in a reblog because too many pictures tumblr won't let me post)

I'm really enjoying how Takami and Hatono's relationship has been playing out like an anti-love story. Not like, enemies-to-lovers or whatever, but a genuinely antagonistic rivalry that seems to be going through the beats of a typical shojō romance; beginning all the way in chapter one with their chance meeting before the start of the school year. "You're the only one who makes me feel this way", but the feeling in question is pure loathing. It's brilliant. I hope it continues like this.

Polysho where Emu’s siblings couldn’t figure out which one of them she was dating and all of them thought she was with a different troupe member.
Kensuke was set on Rui, the whole “professionally defending her during their first meeting” and his direct request to take Emu with them when wxs left the park gave him the impression Rui was pursuing or courting her somehow and making an effort to be on formal terms with her family. Shousuke was convinced she was crushing on Tsukasa since she’s so clingy with him for a guy friend and Emu genuinely acts like he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. He always read it as some sappy annoying puppylove thing. But somehow, the two of them realize while talking about her that they both thought Emu was dating a different guy and go back and forth a bit until realizing they’re both now genuinely lost on which one she’s with-
So they go to Hinata knowing her and Emu are really close, hoping she’d shed some light and break the tie, until she drops the bombshell that she was fully under the impression Emu and Nene are currently dating and have been for months.

I fricking love this girl. This is the power of being neurotypical.
I like this scene, of Ena in her room reflecting on Honami's shocking artwork, a lot. It implies that the untenable artwork Ena makes in class, the pieces Yukihira dislikes and can find nothing nice to say about, do have that ephemeral quality he couldn't describe, "appeal," despite lacking any other good qualities.

Ena is changing her art now, and starting to receive compliments from Yukihira, but, like Ena in her room here reflecting on Honami's art, there's something missing now from the compromised, more technically-sound art.

Like Honami's art now, many more people can appreciate Ena's improved artwork, except it's lost something unique and strange. We're learning what Ena's style is, that trait her art has that Futaba mentioned admiring and trying to mimic once.

I kind of love this because, in Emu's room we watched Ena hating and ridiculing Honami's artwork, of being unable to salvage her technique and needing to replace it with something else, out of a sincere desire to help her. But now, Ena is looking at Honami's art but this time going out of her way to try and appreciate it for Honami's sake, and she's finding things she likes; it has appeal. Ena at Emu's house is Yukihira, but Ena in her room here, is Kanade.
