TK Strand catches eyes with Carlos Reyes in a restaurant – only to witness him endure a perplexingly terrible blind date. When TK realizes he needs to step in and help, the night takes a much brighter turn, and maybe a recently-heartbroken TK can see the future within it.

It’s a strange thought to have – that the pain was worth it because it led him here. That it’s all going to be okay. Being here tonight with this guy Carlos, who he met under humorous circumstances and had sex with immediately and is now about to enjoy his food – it’s a good thing. A good thing that would not be happening without a very bad thing. So much of life rolls on like that, one thing leading to another, and on and on, and it always will, until the sun becomes a supernova and maybe another planet will form out of the wreckage of that. A new planet with new creatures with new problems. But so long as they can fall in love, they’ll be alright.

I really do be up in this bitch turning crumbs into cookies. Cause Carlos mentioning that Campbell is covering for him so he can go with TK to Judd’s promotion ceremony has got me thinking…

I think Campbell is very gladly covering for him. I think it made him smile when Carlos texted him and asked him to do him a solid. I think he’s proud of him. When he first met Carlos, he was absorbed in work. He was staying late every night. He was neglecting his home life. He was struggling to be there for his husband. He didn’t want a kid because of work and unfinished business. So I just think that Ranger “I’m gonna play hooky from work to go to my kids party” Soup, was extremely pleased to see Carlos finally putting work aside to go be with his husband. He said “hell yeah I’ll cover for you! Go do your thing man!” And smiled the biggest proudest smile to himself, cause his little baby Ranger partner has grown up so much.

During this time of reflection, I'm thinking about how Rafa said, "To catch the killer, Carlos has to become the killer!" at the Paris convention right after season 4, and it was so dramatic that I and perhaps many of us were imagining Carlos in season 5 would be like this:

I so love that we got to see them as equal partners in parenting Jonah, it was so important to me after not being quite satisfied with how the writers got them to that point. And I was a bit worried that we'd leave them with a child we hadn't really seen Carlos interact with so couldn't really see their bond - but that one scene was so lovely I don't feel that way anymore.

And I also love that the second part of the scene was focused on them as a couple, and we got to see that even though they're parents now they still make time for each other and are just the same as they've always been

Yes me too!!! It was such a good balance of everything I needed - Carlos clearly loving Jonah too and not regretting his own decisions, how in tune they still are with each other (being a team, checking with each other before saying Jonah can have more chocolate, Carlos knowing without TK having to say it that it's gonna be hard for him to be back at the 126 without his dad, taking time off to be there for him and TK expressing his appreciation for that), the sweet domesticity of the fact that Carlos clearly got up and got half dressed and then collapsed back onto the couch while his energizer bunny boys ran around, the love you can see radiating off Tarlos and the obvious fact that they are still so obsessed with each other and that having Jonah has only made their love for each other balloon even bigger than they ever thought it could. I loved it 🥺

not to get too sappy on main but... something i've appreciated so much about carlos's character is the direction they seem to be taking him in that he's pretty quiet. he keeps to himself and he's okay being alone and he avoids confrontation and difficult conversations. he's trying his best but at the end of the day those things are hard for him. idk. as a person of color, i've never been able to relate to a character of color in this specific area so much. he feels real in ways that i didn't think possible on tv, and i'm so, so grateful for him.

a guide to calming TK down, by Carlos Reyes:

1. hold his neck. he’s still a feral cat deep down and he’ll go docile with that touch

2. eye contact. hit him with the carlos cow eyes. it’ll put him in a trance and make him forget about everything else

3. reassurance. he knows what you’re telling him, but he needs to hear it from you

4. kiss him. impossible for him to worry when his lips are occupied. experiment conducted thousands of times. always accurate.

5. pat him on the hip and make a joke. he’ll smile and you’ll feel a hundred feet tall for taking care of your baby
