Paperback Hardy Boys Mysteries
#079 Sky Sabotage
#hbedit#clue crew#hardy boys#yes this one features donald duck and seaworld#because at several points in this book the boys go to legally distinct seaworld#and to legally distinct disneyworld or land or whatever#but joe dresses up as legally distinct donald duck called dandy duck#this is truly just a Florida mystery#also learned from making that that seaworld does in fact still house killer whales#which i thought they would have learned NOT to do anymore due to the... you know murder and cruelty#but nope apparently still a thing and they still do shows#horrific to learn thanks to a hardy boys book so that sucks

i'm really such a big fan of how the nancy drew and hardy boys ghostwriters were apparently required to end as many chapters on a cliff hanger as possible, because that just means you get shit like "nancy gasped as something flew towards her head!" and then you turn the page and it says "the piece of paper that was floating through the air hit her gently in the face"
#they would truly be like 'and then the CAR FELL INTO A DITCH'#and then on the next page a nice man with a tow truck happens by and he's like#hey fellows need help getting out of that ditch!#and then for one paragraph they're like 'wow what a mild inconvenience that was'#'anyway'

Classic Hardy Boys Mysteries
#21 The Clue of the Broken Blade
#hbedit#clue crew#hardy boys#a weird and bizarre collage for a weird and bizarre book(s)#the wine and cheese picture is my favorite#mostly because no it's not in one particular version of the story#it's in both but in a way that in the 1970 vers the boys are at a vineyard#and in the 1942 vers the criminal eats a lot of cheese#which is actually how they identify him at the end#in a completely absurd way that stuck with me so when i read the vineyard part#i went OH WINE AND CHEESE

when i make one of those image block posts per book, i tend to make a list after/while i finish reading of things that best summarize/distinguish the book's story beats
going really well for clue of the broken blade so far...
#i cannot handle john button original manuscripts#like they are so fascinating in that what the actual hell is this man talking abouttttt#that said i think this is the last book he wrote in the original line up#dr. john you and i will always have something special and it's that i truly don't understand your fucking mind#rip if you're dead but i somehow doubt that because i feel like you would upload your brain to the cloud as soon as possible

Classic Hardy Boys Mysteries
#43 The Mystery of the Aztec Warrior
#hbedit#clue crew#hardy boys#yup i'm back from the dead and this is the first book i read on returning#also sorry there's no eclipse in the book that one is there purely just for vibes#no what DOES happen in this book that i can't quite fit in there is mormon propaganda#mostly the belief that quetzacoatl the aztec god was actually white jesus#they really just sluiced that one in there#and other dumbfoundingly culturally ignorant things#the boys literally see a brown man at the airport and they're like sir are you MEXICAN#and he's like yes?? and then they show him a picture of bob spanish word#and they're like do you know this OTHER MEXICAN#as if it is not an entire country#amazing boy detective work going on in this one#fenton literally tells them to fuck off and they do and i like to imagine it's because he wasn't going to do fuck all#because the mystery was stupid

since i made my college personal project reading every since nancy drew Main Series from start to finish in chronological order from 1930 to twenty years into the 21st century, i have the unique perspective that the changes in characters/settings/plot in the book series are actually so gradual it's impossible to say they're not a straight up evolution done year by year and bit by bit with hundreds of creative voices at the helm
so anyway if i read a comment somewhere with people saying the contemporary nancy drew books "don't feel like nancy" i'm throwing eggs at them btw
#i'm not dead just busy with work and still occasionally reading these books#this was my own fault for seeing the comment that made me think this#i was on reddit for no good reason looking for something

I really love the Togo/Hannah/Carson saga in CAR, too, like, this stupid dog keeps tossing his toy behind gigantic pieces of furniture and Carson is just seething quietly and then his TV gets broken and Hannah is just like oh dearrrr and basically everything falls apart when Nancy isn’t there

i'm not super active on this blog, really, but trust me when i say irl i'm still a big nancy drew fan/bearer of stratemeyer syndicate knowledge and i can also still say that this is a curse. this knowledge is a curse.
i can go to no bookstore- hunting for original manuscripts or looking for older editions of books out of print- without a bald white man with glasses approaching me and telling me, with the reserved smugness of somebody about to tell you the hottest new info of all time, about how "that's not the original book, that's the revision, they were all revised in the 1950s" and i'm like "i know, brad. why do you think i'm here". every week i see tiktok girlies posting "DID U KNOW" and in the most condescending voice telling me about blue book editions (they don't have to be blue book covers to be originals btw, just having the 25 chapters means it's the old version, a blue book is just a specific printing and is more likely to fall apart when breathed on usually) and i'm like yes, rebecca. i did know. that's why i'm here.
it's an endless Sisyphean task knowing about this cultural cornerstone that most people didn't know still exists and five or six people know too much about. it's one of the world's worst non-exclusive but wants to be exclusive club.
anyway if someone tries to charge you more than $5 for an old nancy drew/hardy boys books, kick them in the knees and go somewhere else don't let false scarcity get you
#and here's hoping the nancy drew series continues even if the hardy boys has died i seriously have my fingers crossed#and no i still haven't played KEY

it's been like legit a year since i got my copy of what disappears in vegas and i JUST started reading it
in other news, the hardy boys series hasn't had a book released for the first time in nearly 100 years because they quietly cancelled the hardy boys adventures series- hardy boys fans how you doing over there
#i could find zero confirmation on it#and the thing i found literally said 'quietly cancelled due to budget reasons'#but the nancy drew diaries series is still going???#i haven't the slightest what's going on there but by god if i won't keep trying to read all these books

every time I play a new type of game I'm like god this would be cool if Nancy Drew was like this. do I have any idea how an open world Nancy game would work? No. but do I want it? Kinda yeah
#if nancy drew were a bigger franchise#we COULD have multi-genre entries#but instead here we are#no entries
