Nightmare of Puppets And Clowns

It was another lazy Sunday afternoon where the warm weather and my full belly from lunch was starting to wake the ‘Z’ monsters inside of me. As I dragged myself out of the car, I shuffled to my bed upstairs and collapsed on my comfortable, soft bed that was inviting me for a snooze. Then I fell asleep.

I’m not sure how long I was out for but I woke up with a start, tumbling out of bed into the bathroom. What was happening? I felt like throwing up. Lifting my fingers to my face, I noticed a few extra fingers growing as I gasped in dismay. I screamed but nothing came out; it was like something was sucking the voice out of my throat. I crashed into the sink then into the shower and then 8 finger puppets on each appeared, one for each finger. The fingers puppets laughed mockingly at me with their clown makeup on, dressed as clowns. I screamed but again, nothing came out.

“MUM! MUM!” my mouth was wide open, I was straining my voice to its maximum level but nothing out be heard. I shook my hands till the clowns fell off, but the three extra fingers still remained.

Then my world went black.

As I opened my eyes to a blurry world, I saw the deep blue eyes of my mother staring back at me. I immediately held my fingers to my face, but to my horror, there were still 16 fingers staring back at me. The finger puppets lay beside me as I shivered, inching away from those laughing faces. 

“I told you to wash your hands.” my mother said, kind of like an in-your-face tone.

“Wha-?” I found my voice as I managed a hoarse whisper.

“The bacteria got in; you didn’t wash your hands. That’s what.”

“How does that relate-?”

Seriously what was happening? Why is my mum being so calm like this is a normal thing?

Because it was.

I saw my brother leading my teacher with deformed fingers down the stairs.

“What’s going on?” I pushed my throat beyond its limits only to manage another hoarse whisper.

“You have finger mutation defection.” She paused to see the look of shock on my face, then continued, “You have to choose your puppet soon. If you try leaving the house, your puppet will murder you.”

What the hell. Can’t leave the house? But how can I bowl? How can I dance? I can’t go to school? What about my dreams? A million questions raced through my mind. I screamed, but nothing came out.

Calming myself down, I forced out a barely audible questions, “How come you don’t have a puppet?”

“I don’t know, they just never came.”

An actual nightmare I had earlier, I had an actual thought of taking this idea and developing it into a prose but after typing this out, I realized how stupid it would sound so I’ll just leave it here. But honestly, that was the worst, scariest nightmare I have ever experienced. I actually thought this was real and I was literally about to cry but thank the Lord I woke up. This is not something I ever want to experience again, especially since everything was so vivid and real.
