Final Project
The book that I used was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass and I chose eight pivotal parts of book. The first part is a dresser that the main character painted on representing herself as the bottom layer of the night sky, her oldest sister which she represented by flames and lastly flowers represent her middle sister. The second page represents the main character, Feyre as a hunter. The third page represents the wolf that comes and attacks Feyre by saying she was a murder, which technically she was. The fourth page a representation of a painting that she creates in the book because she is a artist. The fifth page is a grey scale value of Under the Mountain. In this book, Under the Mountain is a location where these people, the fae, are being held and Feyre ends up going down into the mountain to get her love out. The six page is depicts the maze that Feyre has to go through with her trail. There is text on this page which talks about the trail that she is facing, the Middengard. The seventh page depicts a tattoo that she is given when she is dying after completing the maze. One of the people that is being held with her, Rhysand, makes a deal with her and return of him healing her and in his custom, a tattoo is given whenever a bargain is made. The eight page represents when Rhysand sees Feyre after she is brought back to life and says, “There you are, I’ve been looking for you.” Here I depicted the emphasis on the Rhysands violet eyes. Below are the elements and principles I used throughout the book.
Page 1: Balance
Page 2: Repetition
Page 3: Shape
Page 4: Color
Page 5: Value (Grey Scale)
Page 6: Line
Page 7: Proportion/Scale
Page 8: Emphasis/Focal Point

In your emphasis and focal point composition, I enjoy your use of colors and medium. I can see you are trying to recreate a stain glass window through your use of varied light colors. I enjoy your location of your emphasis/focal point which I believe is the purple circle in the middle. It’s interesting to see that when you went to create your focal point, you also changed the medium to marker from color pencil . In your composition, I feel you could have added more detail to make your composition even more intriguing. Perhaps break down the “stain glass” panels that you currently have in your image so it is slightly harder to distinguish where your focal/emphasis is. Overall, your composition is a great start to this project.

Emphasis and focal point - I tried to recreate a stain class project I did back in high school and recreate it to have a good focal point. All of the different colors to represent happiness. When first looking at this I see the purple circle

Rule of thirds:
In this Coca Cola advertisement, the rule of thirds is use by the coke bottle going directly along the line and the logo for coke being on the opposite side.

Carly chose to represent her heritage through the Quebec flag. From reading her description, "French Canadian is an ethnic group in Canada, they do not have a general flag; however there is a Quebec flag. French Canadians are people who came from France and settled in Canada, primarily Quebec," She represents her history and life through the use of old photographs of her family, some that she has met and some that she has never met but are still part of her lineage. I feel she effectively represented that side of her heritage because she creates a nostalgic narrative which makes the viewers feel that they want to know more about the narrative and artist behind the composition. The composition and collaging of images was a successful choice because it represents a whole family and lineage. At the top of her composition, I enjoy that the transition from red to blue is a sharp transition because regular flags do not have a faded transition, it is just a sharp change from one color to the next. Furthermore, I enjoy how the composition has one photo which lines the top of the composition, because it feels as if it is connecting all of the other pictures together. The viewer's eye is first drawn to the middle of the composition but then it moves outward and expands to all of the other photographs. Also, upon closer look, I see that basically every picture, except for the white one in the middle, are all pictures that have houses in them. This use of repetition balances the composition wonderfully. Carly's technical skills with Photoshop/Illustrator were a big part in creating this composition to flow seamlessly. The colors she used represent the part of her heritage French Canadian, that she wanted to further explore. The interpretation of this work can be easily identified that this is portraying someone's life. Overall, this work is very successful in portraying what she wanted the viewers to experience, a collage of her lineage.

Color Heritage Project
I chose to focus on my French Canadian heritage from my mother’s side. The colors used are blue, white, and red. Since French Canadian is an ethnic group in Canada, they do not have a general flag; however there is a Quebec flag. French Canadians are people who came from France and settled in Canada, primarily Quebec. I was going to add the stylized lily symbol that is on the Quebec flag to my project, but felt it would make it too busy as it is already very crowded. I decided to use the French flag colors and make the Canadian connection with the maple leaf in the middle. All the photos used are from old family albums and range from the 1920s-1960s. Some of the photos were taken in Canada, while others were taken in New Hampshire, where many of my ancestors settled after leaving Canada and emigrating to America
I scanned in the photos and adjusted the color balance to either red, blue, or white depending on the placement. I tried to collage many of the photos within another photo so they created new narratives and combined the time periods. I thought it was interesting seeing people who may have never met in the same collaged photo. The maple leaf consists of various portraits of ancestors, some who I know and some who I have never met. I initially was going to arrange the portraits in the shape of a maple leaf, however I found out that I could place the images in the maple leaf shape. I feel like this came out a lot better and I’m happy with how the white stands out. I really enjoyed looking back at these photos while making this collage because I was able to learn more about this part of my heritage and my ancestors.

Color Heritage Project
In this composition, I focused on my ethnicity which is represented in flag wallpaper in the background. From left to right the flags that are represented are, Hungarian, Irish, Polish/Austrian and German. In the vase in the center of the table are the said nations respective national flowers. I wanted to create a composition that shows a cauldron of my heritage because, to me, a flower vase elegantly represents that.
