The struggle with independent films: how can you manifest your vision, your story, with a small budget? How can you use these to tell an effective story? Sometimes certain stories need certain elements, which costs money.
As we all know independent films are movies with deep meanings and creative storyline. People with creative minds wants to share their talents through this kind of media. Independent Films are also movies with low budget that’s why it is not that known to a lot of people. Given the low budget, independent films and directors cannot afford to hire known celebrities or actresses to act as the characters in their stories which is also a reason why people doesn't know that these movies existed. The low budget given to these movies hindered the directors to produce high quality movies and to tell effective story. For me if I will be given the chance to create an Indie Film with a low budget I will still try my best to tell an effective story by capturing the hearts of the audience. Sometimes the quality and budget doesn't matter as long as I can share and manifest the vision I wanted for my movie. The lesson and essence of the movie matters even though it is not that high quality and even though the actors and actresses are not known. It is more important that you have touched the emotions of the audience because thats what matter the most. Also, I will include several strategies to use my budget wisely so that I can still show an effective storyline to the audience. However, if given a chance that I was able to find sponsors I can present it better because of the budget. It has a greater possibility that my Independent Film will be known by the people. It can also help me add more elements to my film so that I wouldn't only capture the hearts of the audience but also their imaginations with the quality of my movie.

BLOG ENTRY #4
In our plate no. 1 we are asked to paint and sketch about what is Filipino art for us. I decided to focus on the beautiful places and sceneries in our country. Since our country is known for having a lot of beautiful beaches, I want to show how The Filipinos value mother nature by preserving these fascinating places. Part of my subject, I included some coconut tree to display one of our countries agricultural treasure which is the coconut. I named my artwork after the subject of my painting, Coconut Tree Catching Waves. The background of my artwork focused deeply on the waves of the ocean and the fine sand. I used different tone of blue to further emphasize the beauty of the ocean and it can be more appealing to the audience.
Before starting the plate I was really scared because I don't have any idea on how to paint properly. I'm not artistic enough to sketch and paint that's why I'm really hesitant to do this plate. When I was about to sketch a drawing, I was having a hard time because it's hard to erase the things you've already started. What I did was I just reflected and I really thought of what to be my subject. Additionally, when I was painting I was really patient on doing some strokes to my painting because its hard to remove. Even though I was having a hard time, I realized that painting is a relaxing hobby. I was enjoying it especially when I'm able mix some paints and strokes.
The big idea I want to convey in my artwork that Filipino should treasure and be proud of the different places we have in our country. We our lucky enough to have numerous number of islands in our country and we have a beautiful environment. My artwork can also help develop our tourism in our country. Furthermore it can encourage the people to value our country more. Filipino art is our own nature.
In honesty, I was visualizing my painting to be really beautiful. However since I'm not an artistic person, I still tried my best and I was not expecting that it would still look nice. As a starter, I am really proud that I was able to paint ombre and shadowing of the colors. I just needed to practice more and try to learn different techniques on how to paint.
The artwork that I have made is consistent with the definition of Philippine contemporary art because it shows a glimpse of reality. It shows how beautiful our country is. It shows how rich we are not just in our geographic sites but also with our agriculture.

BLOG ENTRY #3
the modern Filipino art | 32 Nicole Vistan 12-Orosa
Looking at the portfolio of Fernando Amorsolo and all his creative artwork, I was very impressed of how he express his feelings and thoughts through the form of art. While looking at his works you can feel the mood and emotions being portrayed in a specific artwork. Almost all of his works are Filipino related subject. It’s very majestic to look at his works because you can see his passion and proudness of being a Filipino. Every artwork you can see the admiring characteristic of being a Filipino and these paintings inspire a lot of people that they should be proud of their own culture.
Based on Amorsolo’s work I would agree about Leo Benesa’s claim that Amorsolo’s work are the most expressive of the ethos of the race and predominantly agricultural countryside. To support my claim, looking at Amorsolo’s work almost all of his subject is about Filipino workers who are proud of their own culture. As reflected we all know that our traditional “hanap-buhay” or work here in the Philippines is not that easy. However, when you look at his works you can notice that even though these Filipino workers are a bit exhausted they still choose to smile. This show another characteristic of a Filipino that we are jolly people and we choose to look over the positive things of life, and no matter how hard life is and even our problems we still don’t lose hope. The painting of Amorsolo is very expressive especially about showing the culture of our country. He shows that we should be proud of our own culture and that our own culture is very unique compare to others. In addition, I noticed that mostly of them are agricultural and that maybe our own country really has a rich agricultural state and that we should be proud of it. Armosolo’s work also focuses on rural areas and that he may want to show that these places are also relevant in our society.
Some people might think that the usage of English in literature lessens the “Filipino-ness” of the literary work, however for me I think it doesn't affect at all. Using English in our literature just exposes our own literary work to other countries in the world. We all know that English is the universal language that helps us connect to other countries around the world. By using English in our literature we allow them to understand more of our own culture and we also let them see the different talents that Filipino possesses. English is just a way of a better communication to those people who cannot understand our own culture and it doesn't totally influence or lessen the Filipino spirit in each artwork.

BLOG ENTRY #2
the museum visit | September 29
Last September 29, our class visited the Miriam College Women’s Gallery where prestige and elegant artworks, made by different artistic people, are being showcased. This art gallery is an environment designed that aims to display artworks, and encourages individual to understand and appreciate art.
Miriam College often have this kind of event to showcase different talents of the students they have. The school value women empowerment that’s why they have this kind of event. It was a great opportunity given to us students to witness this once in a lifetime event. As a result I would like to share my experience as I explore the world of art.
The artwork gallery was held in Miriam College Quezon City. Our class, 12-Orosa, went to College Department the first floor of MMJ Building Foyer to witness the beauty of the said exhibit. The gallery was held in an old building and inside of this building we all went to medium sized room which the exhibit is located. There were 2 doorways and a small stairs that connects the main door to the room itself. Although the room had low ceilings it was still spacious because a lot of people was able to fit in the room and there were a lot of artworks that fit inside the room. The room was also comfortable because it has a proper air ventilation since it was air conditioned. When you enter the room, you will easily notice that the mood of the gallery is a bit cozy and relaxing since the walls was painted white. The color of the wall matters because it kinda sets the mood of the whole exhibit and it emphasizes the art present in the room. In addition, because of the white wall the small colored lights really blended with the different  artworks that add accent to the whole architecture design of the gallery.
Inside the exhibit I was able to noticed that artworks are group together depending on what they portray. Some of the filipino cultured theme showcased the different talent of a woman. It was impressing that the artworks have enough space and they are not too close together. With this, that there is proper design for the whole exhibit people were able to enjoy and really appreciate each work of art. I also noticed while entering the vicinity there are different kinds of lighting and there are leveling. I think this lighting help the artwork be distinguished from the others and it adds accent to the given work of art. The use of proper lighting is very important in an art gallery because it affects how you present a work of art. This lighting adds texture to the whole exhibit. The use of the different level of lighting is that it really attracts people to look on a certain work.
Every artwork present inside the gallery is just eye level  and it works because the audience can already see the piece clearly. Some of the pieces are grouped together with similar size and shapes. The organizer might have plan it that way so that people wouldn't  have a hard time distinguishing the meaning of each artwork. At least they are giving hints what the work of art is trying to tell to its audience. Lay-outting and designing the whole gallery is important because this will serve you as a guide on how the whole gallery will look like. This can also serve as to where they can properly put every artwork. Designing the whole gallery is important because it sets the mood of the audience and it gives a little of what the whole exhibit is all about.

The whole exhibit has 41 pieces of artwork that consist of art, paintings, sketches, and sculpture. There are a lot of artist featured in the gallery and these people really showed a lot of passion through work of art. One of these people is Angelica Verzosa who created the “Dilaw na Buwan sa ibabaw ng Mumula- mumulang Bubong or, in english, Yellow Moon Over Persimmon Red Roof.” She used an acrylic paint on a canvas to show her vision of a house with different shapes and color. Her painting focuses on showing an image of a lovely house under a bright yellow moon. Another artist is Plet Bolipata who made the “Maglalako ng Singcamas or the Singcamas Vendor.” In her piece she visualized a girl wearing an orange dress holding singcamas and the women was interacting with the beauty of nature. She used oil on canvas. Jade Navarro Bengco is another artist who made the “Tagapangalaga ng Kapuluan or Guardian of the Islands.” In this work of art there is a woman symbolizing as the guardian of al the islands in the Philippines. As shown in the painting the woman is wearing a dress with an image of the Philippine Flag. I can also notice that the woman is representing an image of a goddess or in Filipino a Diyosa. The beautiful face of the woman represents the beauty of our country the Philippines. It inferred that the painting aims to show to the audience the beautiful sceneries we have here in our country. The artist used watercolor on a paper. In addition, Joanne De Leon another artist who made the “Tuba or the Coconut.” In her art piece she was able to show how people in our country make the coconut wine. She also describe that even women are capable of making these kind of things. It’s not always men who always do agricultural work and this painting show women empowerment that we are capable of doing the things men can do. The painting was made by using a watercolor on a paper.

Lastly, my favorite artwork in the gallery was made by Brenda Fajardo. Her artwork was named Pilipinang Mapagmahal or Loving Filipina and it was ink on paper. The color combination of the whole artwork was dominantly warm colors such as red, yellow, and orange. The strokes was really detailed since the artist used a pen or ink in making her artwork. The design was really appealing to the audience because it was not just one image but it showed several images describing a Filipina. The artwork really showed how family oriented a Filipina is. She used children as a representation of how loving and caring a Filipina mother is. There are also different description of who a Filipina is, these words are magkasuyo, ang araw, katarungan, at taong binigti. The whole image reflects an image of a Filipina who serves as the light of the family or ilaw ng tahanan. Furthermore, the whole artwork shows the different roles of women in our society. It is a great representation of how our society now a days wants to educate the people of women empowerment. We, women, are very important in our society and we have different values to teach the young sectors in our generation. We are capable of doing a lot of things and we are significant in our society.

The whole exhibit was really beautiful  and cohesive. However, I want to suggest that they must put artworks that are interactive. It would attract more people to visit the exhibit especially those who are young. I would also want to see more artifacts and sculpture. After visiting the gallery, I was really happy and I felt proud that I am a Filipino. The whole exhibit was really breathe taking because every artwork was made by Filipina and it really aims to empower women in our society.
