Therapy is hard when you don’t know whats wrong with you. I sometimes wish i could open a door in the back of my skull and let my therapist check out my brain personally to see whats up. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. In therapy, you actually have to put in the work. You have to show that you want to get better, not just think and say it.

As Dr Ruan sits in front of me looking more puzzled than anyone else ive ever told my problems to, i start to wonder if im truly a lost cause. I mean, if a licensed therapist can’t figure out what my problem is, is there really any hope? Ive been through so much in my short life, i didnt know where to start. When she asked me what had brought me here, all i could respond was: “i dunno, i guess im just kinda depressed.” “What do you bean by that, Addi-“ “Adam” I cut her off before she could deadname me. “Yes. Sorry, Adam. That will take some getting used to, I hope you understand the difficulty.” I dont.
