What’s Wrong With My Sims 4 Game??

If you’re asking this question, chances are, you’ve run into either a broken mod, broken cc, or EA errors. Any error can generate a lastException in your /Sims 4 folder.

Players with MC Command Center or Wicked Whims are notified of them in game. Players not using either mod still get them, they just don’t know, unless something gets really strange in game, the game crashes, or the player actually sees the lastException file(s) in the Sims 4 folder.

Broken CC is the number one cause for lastCrash files. Outdated UI mods are likely to show you lastUIExceptions. The first step to fixing either is to check download sites and make sure your mods and custom content are ALL up to date for the current patch. Anything can break, depending on what EA does to the game code.

If you’re interested in doing some of your own troubleshooting, reading the LE is where to start. You can open it with a text editor. (Note I said “reading,” not “understanding.”)

Recently we’ve been seeing several of the same errors over and over on Deaderpool’s MCCC Discord. So, here’s a partial “what’s going on” rundown, up to and including the 1.41 EA patch.

Event goals (parties, dates, etc.) are broken. EA will have to fix them. If you look at the LE, you’ll see this:

Exception raised while trying to run a test event in test_events. py: (TypeError: ‘NoneType’ object is not iterable)

The workaround is to have events without goals, and to hold off trying to complete the Party Animal aspiration. (Play other sims, or choose a different aspiration, for now.)

Broken ghosts are showing up in some “older” saves. Here’s how to fix those, by Nies.

Fix:

Give all households without a name in the household menu a household name.

Additional: Use MCCC’s Mailbox -> Hide households -> Hide said sims in order for them to not show up in the “Other Households” menu anymore

Pets are causing get_focus_bone errors. Tysakasa came up with a partial fix, using MCCC’s Autoscan function.

For those who are seeing a lot of error reports referring to 'get_focus_bone’ we believe we have found a solution to the problem until EA releases an update to officially address this.

You will want to open up your mc_tuner.cfg file found within your MCCC’s folder and add the following to your list:

164920,pet_Investigate_SniffNewObjects

If you do not have a mc_tuner.cfg file inside your MCCC folder, download and place the file there. Then delete your localthumbcache.package in /Sims 4.

If this error persists even after adding this line, please let us know in detail what happened leading up to the error. We may ask for your save file so we can test and look to see what else could be added to help smooth things over.

Traits break often, and a lot of them are. If you see a line like this:

Caught exception loading reference. RefName: 158875 Manager: InstanceManager_interaction. TunableReference is set to a value that is not allowed by its class restriction.

You probably have broken traits or aspirations. "RefName" is what to look for. LONG numbers there point to mods, more than to cc.

Some error messages will show you WHAT broke, like this:

AttributeError: 'pbox_notebook_tuning’ object has no attribute 'get_focus_bone’

But, there’s an exception, sometimes you’ll see mods listed that use injectors, and are only being “caught” by the eror-catching in MCCC or WW. It’s always a good idea to CHECK any file you see in a lastException, but some are likely to be fine. It depends on where and how they show up.

So what’s happening… or, what isn’t?

Hi folks! Hope you’re all having a good time and are enjoying fall. One my favorite seasons really. It’s getting cold, the leaves turn orange and red, magical.

I wanna talk to you about why nothing’s really happening here at the moment, since I made some promises.

So… to be straight-forward with this: I have anxiety issues. As some of you may be familiar with, we have a concept here we call “dual studying”, aka doing both an apprenticeship and bachelor degree studyings at once. While this sounds like a cool and easy “multitask” kind of concept, I can tell you, it’s stressful as f-. My uni grades aren’t really the best and I have had to retake an exam and an assignment. While I’m still working on the assignment, I have also failed the exam’s retake. What does that mean? If I fail the following oral exam, I’m out.

Contract-wise, I am bound to both a company and a university. If I now fail in uni, they can kick me out. Which means I would also lose the job. At the moment, I’m just scared. I have also realised that I did not put enough time and effort into what I’m doing. Which to be fair is a common thing I do (or, not do).

I’m trying to distract myself from this constant state of fear, the thoughts of “am I doing the right thing?” and any responsibilities. Which also means that I don’t function correctly at the moment.

I’m truly sorry if you all expected great from me, some cool mods, idk what. I can’t offer you that. I can’t even get my a- up to help my lovely support team anymore. I’m tired, exhausted, and I need a time off Sims for a while.

I love this game, I love this community, but I need a break.

October Sims 4 Patch Day

Happy Patch Day!

Remember, EA will disable mods for today’s patch. Remove (and wait for news on) Script and Game Changing Mods, and TEST your CAS and Buildbuy CC back into your game.

If you aren’t ready to update, be sure to disable Automatic Updates in Origin, and also Go Offline in Origin, before patch time (1pm Eastern).

Mac Lion OS users Should NOT UPDATE their game today. 💥

If you’re jumping into patching, back up your mods/cc and saves, first. Copy both folders and paste them onto your desktop.

Ready or not, it’s happening Soon, and on Deaderpool’s Discord, we’ll be tracking what’s working and what isn’t.

Sims 4 - Replace Water Off-Grid Mod (Nies)

Hello cuties! Not sure if you expected me HERE, but hey, why not post small things on tumblr, too?

With the last Sims 4 game patch (June 18th 2019, patch 1.52.100.1020/1220), the Off-Grid lot trait has been added, and it didn’t take long for people to hop onto Deaderpool’s Discord so tell us about the items they thought should work off-grid, too!

One thing was mentioned to me by @luthsthings was that the washing tub from Laundry Day Stuff technically does work (as you’d expect it to), but you can NOT replace the dirty water in it! Why? Because it isn’t tagged that way (yet?)

Long story short, been digging around a little, and thanks to a little hint from LittleMsSam, I found the solution, threw it into a pack for you and let the magic happen! Your sims can now replace the water despite living off the grid!!

Note: It does NOT display as “working off-grid” in the catalogue. But I think you’ll give me this one :P

13 Ways to Irritate Tech Support

For the past 6 months, I’ve been helping out with tech support. Whilst I am not an expert in “How to give tech support”, these are a couple of the pet peeves which I’ve noticed over time.

1. Know your platform. I specialise in live chat tech support. I don’t like forums, I don’t get on with them at all. If you like forum support, head to the forums. But if you’re getting live support, know that it’s live. Stick around. Don’t simply post and disappear like you would on a forum. Stick around for 10/ 20 minutes, wait for an answer (or more likely, questions about your issue). Don’t string the support along forever when they’re trying to help you.

2. “It didn’t work”, 3 hours later. For you, it might’ve only been a couple of tests. But for the tech support, they’ve probably dealt with another 5 people since you. The chances of them remembering what your issue was, and what they told you to do, is minimal. Not to mention, someone else might’ve taken the reins for support in that time, so they’ll have no idea what you’re going on about. If it’s been any sort of time since you last spoke, mention what you did that “didn’t work” and be prepared to show/ explain the error again.

3. Give version numbers. When you’re asked for a version of something, give them the numbers if you know them. If you don’t know them, ask how to find out the version numbers. Replying with “latest” might seem fine but chances are that if you’re being asked for version numbers, you’re probably behind on versions or the numbers are needed for confirmation. Don’t make up or lie about your version number either, I personally have the relevant version numbers memorised as well as several old versions. I can spot a dodgy version number a mile away. And lying about your version number just means that the poor support person will end up tearing their hair out when what they’re suggesting isn’t working when it should. Just don’t do it.

4. Don’t double post. I get it, all tech support get it. We’ve all been in the position where you’ve been waiting for a while and there’s activity elsewhere, so you want to ask there too. If you think you’ve posted in the wrong place, then delete your original post before moving. But generally, staying somewhere that isn’t as active can mean more people will see your post rather than it being buried under other chat.

5. Do a bit of reading beforehand. If you’re struggling, before going to support, give it a quick Google. Maybe see if your issue has cropped up elsewhere, save you and the support some time if you can try a couple of things just to see if it’ll help. Then once you arrive at your support location, don’t just post willy-nilly. Look for a “how to get help” section (for Discord support, go to the server rules section before anything else), find out what you need to do. Rather than posting incorrectly and the support having to explain how to do it to you when it’s already explained elsewhere. A bit of reading on your part makes our lives so much easier.

6. Do as you’re told. You’ve come to support because you don’t know what to do. You might think it’s trivial or it’s pointless, but if the support think it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing. We know how tedious a full reinstall is, so we won’t recommend it unless we have to. We know that backing up can take a while, but we also know it’s important in case something goes wrong. Don’t argue with the support. If you must complain, do it out loud and off your keyboard, where the support can’t hear.

7. Patience is appreciated (and not optional). It’s true, some errors are quick and easy to explain. But others aren’t. Some will need a fair bit of testing and work to solve. Try to seek support relatively soon after your issue, but don’t do it when you’ve got to go to work in 10 minutes. You might need a fair bit of time to work things through.

8. They care too. Some support don’t give two hoots about who they get in their support channels. But most of them really do, especially if it’s voluntary support (like I do). I truly feel downhearted when I’m not able to help someone, either for lack of knowledge and no available assistance backstage or for an error which I don’t have the means to solve. The support want to help, they want to fix your issue. So don’t blame them if something doesn’t work or it turns out to be very problematic and they’re not able to do anything.

9. They talk backstage. It is very likely that any large support teams have backstage, private chats where they can confer. This might be obvious if there’s a random question seemingly unrelated which is suddenly asked (probably a suggestion thrown out by a fellow support). Bare with the suppport if they suddenly disappear for a few minutes, there might be a large discussion about your error or something else entirely going on which you can’t see.

10. They’re human too. There are two possible ways to interpret this, and both are applicable. First is that the support might make one or two mistakes. They might do something wrong, or misidentify the error. If this happens be gracious and nice, they’re probably feel embarrassed enough already. The second one (which applies way more for voluntary support) is that they have lives to live outside of being support. The person you were talking to 30 minutes ago might’ve had to leave or may be taking a break, so you might end up with someone new. Be prepared for the same questions from someone new, just answer them the same as you did earlier.

11. Manners cost nothing, much like the support. This is especially the case for free-of-charge support, and voluntary even more so. Ask nicely for help with a please, and say thank you when you’re done. Wishing them a nice day would also be a nice way to leave should you ever need to come back for help again. And feeding their egos wouldn’t hurt either, a quick “You guys are the best” will always leave a happy support behind.

12. Say thank you!! I cannot stress this enough. Saying “thank you” is only 9 key presses (6 if you shorten it to thanks). Not only is it polite, it tells the support person that your issue is resolved, that they can close your error files and move onto someone/ somewhere else.

13. Being remembered isn’t normally good. Unless you’re there every other day, the support remembering you means that you’re either rude or you have some weird as hell errors. There have been days where I’ve read and diagnosed 50+ error files (and I’m not even the most active support team member). If I’ve remembered who you are, it’s not because I found your avatar interesting. Try to not be remembered. And if you are remembered, make sure it’s because you were so nice and so well mannered.

“Throw Up” For Everysim by Nies (Sims 4)

Sick of your sims NOT throwing up when you want to? Well, here you go! Now you are the one making them puke when they don’t seem to want to on their own!

What This Mod Does This mod unlocks the “Throw Up” Interaction - depending on the flavor you choose (see below) - on toilets for Teens up!

I have created it after I noticed that when playing a pregnant sim, this interaction is now unlocked.

No Sims Mobile stuff in Germany?

Yes. I was sent an official page from EA regarding the family portrait. I’ve been wondering why I wasn’t able to receive it yet, and guess what:

I am actually curious why that’s the case. I mean, I can still go ahead and get the mod for it… but this seems a little unfair, doesn’t it?

I don’t know what to say. I wish there was a statement why the German player base, which is HUGE, will not be able to officially receive the Sims Mobile items. No Family portrait, no clothing items for Sims Mobile… sigh

I think it’s appropriate to feel left out, isn’t it? Maybe I should move. To… Switzerland or something. :’D

MCCC’s Error Notifications

Sims 4 players using MC Command Center have some extra insurance against using broken mods or cc, in the form of error-catching. Depending on where in game code an error happens, it could either be generated as a MCCC log error, or as a lastException.

I’ll show you where to find both file types.

Here’s what the notification for MCCC logs looks like:

For translating, here’s what it says:

ERROR LOGGED

A script error has been logged to the mc_cmd_center.log file located in the same folder as the MC Command Center modules. As this error may be a result of a bug in MCCC, please notify Deaderpool about it! Thanks!

This rectangular message is seen less often than the more-square (larger) notification for lastExceptions, which will be covered below.

The next picture shows you where to look on your (Windows) computer for the log file. Depending on your OS settings, you may or may not see .log or LOG. If you don’t, it should be shown as a Text Document.

There are three files in the MCCC folder named mc_cmd_center, the mod files (package and ts4script), and the text/log file, which is the file (highlighted in blue) to bring us, if you come to Deaderpool’s Discord for help.

Here’s what the notification for lastExceptions looks like:

For translating, here’s what it says:

LAST EXCEPTION CAUGHT BY MCCC

A script error has been logged to the LastException.txt file located in the Sims 4 folder. This error almost always happens as a result of bad or out-of-date mods or CC, but sometimes it can be an EA script error as well. It will continue to happen until the mods or cc are removed or updated. In the Troubleshooting documentation in the MCCC website help menu, there is a suggestion on how to track-down bad or out of date custom content. Thanks!

The next picture shows you where to look on your (Windows) computer for the lastException file. It should be shown as a Text Document in your /Sims 4 folder. That’s the file (highlighted in blue) to bring us, if you come to Deaderpool’s Discord for help.

Some extra information on error messages: In your /Sims 4 folder, you may see 3 different types of error files. Their names all begin with “last” and they are all text files.

lastCrash: usually from old or broken custom content.

lastException: any mod, cc or EA (game code) error not caught by the other file types.

lastUIException: usually user-interface mods needing updated (weerbesu at MTS, for example).

Of the 3, the best one to show us on Discord is the lastException. (By the way, drag and drop is Very Handy on Discord!!) The other 2 types, we can only tell you what I’ve already said here. Other than “you need to sort through your mods and cc,” which is detailed in this post.

One more thing, if you see any “last” file with numbers added to the name, those are old. The ones with no numbers added are fresh. Any with numbers can be deleted, they won’t tell us what’s going on NOW in your game.

We really only need the ONE (newest) file, when you come to visit us.
