Some people have pointed out that the Spinning Top ending represents not only our Echo being able to let go, but Watcher too. To be able to finally move on from all they’ve lost. To heal. But the Prince ending is the opposite. “No one lost, nothing lost… a single strand of life throughout time…” no one lost. Instead of your friend leaving and being happy, your *other* friend is frozen forever, always present but never there. A hollow immortality, a desperate clinging. You are not diving into the unknown, accepting this new reality and new world. You are holding on to everything close to home, what you once knew. You are not entering Daemon and Shattered Terrace and finally Ancient Urban, you’re visiting and revisiting familiar regions until they’re all rotted out. And yet you cling on. For something. Anything.
Watcher can accept their family’s passing and move on, never forgetting them and never forgetting their own past and old life and old world but letting go, or grasp at familiarity so desperately it’s clawed to something unrecognizable.
