Neil josten is the worst fucking narrator ever when it comes to his feelings cause the whole time his internal monologue is like, “Andrew is being cranky” “mafia mafia mafia im going to die” “exy exy exy exy” “I’m scared”, “Andrew is a nice listener. He kisses well.Andrew gave me a cigarette .” “my head hurts” and then all of sudden his dialogue to Andrew is like. “I only want you.” “You are everything to me.” “You make me feel safe” “we are going to be together forever.” Like??????

It's funny to re-read AFTG and try to track down Neil's list of priorities in the time frame of the three books. If you pay attention, his priorities slowly change and evolve, and I'm pretty sure it goes something like this:

THE FOXHOLE COURT - first half.

1. His life.

2. Exy.

3. Everyone else (including the foxes' lives).

THE FOXHOLE COURT - second half.

1. Exy (decides to stay even if it'll kill him).

2. His life (he's willing to let Andrew die for him, he doesn't care for Seth's death).

3. Everyone else.

THE RAVEN KING - first half.

1. Exy.

2. His life.

3. Foxes as a team (will defend them and risk his safety to do so but won't die for them).

4. Andrew (he notices things, starts to wonder, grows closer to him: he's the only one who matters to him as an actual individual I think. The others are growing on him, tho).

THE RAVEN KING - second half.

1. Andrew (we all know what happens. He even states that he would rather lose the season than let Andrew continue on his drugs).

2. Exy.

3. His own life.

4. The foxes.

THE KING'S MEN.

1. Andrew (actively trying to make him break their deal so he won't die and won't feel guilty when Neil does).

2. The foxes (starts referring to them as his friends, his family).

3. Exy.

4. His own life.

i just love how neil specifically remembers that kevin and riko used to draw the numbers on their faces and redraw them every time they faded

like kevin stepped into the actual exy world like “i have a court tattoo” and people went with it and it’s like this scary intimidating thing but neil’s like “yeah i remember when y’all’s cringe asses used to draw on your faces every day. thought you were weird then and i still do now.”

aftg is the one obsession that never releases its chokehold me and i wanna know WHY . like i read this series in like 2020. why do i come back to it every time i finish my exams. why . you’d think i’d have run myself dry by now - i read every single fanfic up to date over summer ‘20 and then kept up to date with newer ones by checking the tag every few days ( my email is full of ao3 subscriptions my lord ) . like HOW am i not sick of it by now. i would scroll through the aftg tag on tumblr till i had seen every post and then repeat w new content. now that i haven’t read done this in a few months i feel the need to catch up on everything i’ve missed these last few months. what the actual f u c k .

So, remember when you were a kid and it was your turn to bring snacks to the game for the rest of the team and potentially the other team if you were like friends.

Like imagine this… but all for the game.

Like it starts as a joke cause Renee brings in some cupcakes she made. Then Kevin has to combat this by bringing protein bars after the next game. Then it just spirals from there. Then an official schedule is made (and a list of stuff Kevin is not allowed to bring) and even Wymack is included (cause he brings pizza).

Neil brings fruit and whatever Andrew’s favourite chocolate bar is at the moment.

Andrew always brings alcohol and when Nicky complains about lack of effort he just throws in a pack of cigs too.

Nicky and Renee will like make something. Allison brings in caviar (idk how to be rich). Matt and Dan are like the OG snacks - like gushers, freezies, dunkaroos, etc.

Aaron brings chips (cause in my mind he’s a salty person). And one day Kevin brings brownies and everyone’s all surprised and after they eat them, Kevin’s like - SIKE - they were made from Avocados and beans or some sh*t.

But like sometimes they eat them on the bench right after the game and the other teams start catching on and low key getting jealous. Sometimes they’ll try for some but, even Renee shuts them down. The only team they are known the share with is the Trojans.
