All of this! It genuinely saddens me that this is actually a 'controversial' take now and what worries me most is that people just really tend to take everything directly without engaging with media critically. How many messy, queer narratives do we continue to burry because of this in particular, how much de we generally lose while we try to assign art neat boxes that weren't supposed to exist in the first place.

It's genuinely just.... sad? Like our modern understanding of nuance continues to regress so much that we now need to be spoon-fed clean narratives with perfect resolutions. And that's just such a limiting standard to embrace, in my opinion.

Sometimes, the most personal and thought-provoking stories are the messiest. And that's good. Because it's true.

Basic rules for analysing fiction, an incomprehensive list jotted down in a hurry:

The protagonist isn’t always right

The protagonist isn’t always good

The protagonist isn’t always written to be relatable or likeable

The narrator isn’t always right

The narrator isn’t always good

The narrator isn’t always telling the truth

The narrator isn’t always the author

The protagonist’s moral compass, the narrator’s moral compass and the author’s moral compass are three entirely different things that only occasionally overlap

Pay attention to what characters do and not just what they say

Pay special attention when what the characters do is at odds with what they say

A lot of the time the curtains are blue for a reason. If they aren’t, you should read better books

In the still of the night (2020)

vampire hunter au

femstars vampire hunter leo au who works with actual vampire ritsu to hunt down other vamps in exchange for leos blood.

leo gets given a case after women keep disappearing from a village deep in the mountains and forests nearby a church. this is in modern day, at the latest the early 2000s. she and ritsu go there and in order to integrate better with the villagers, leo disguises herself as a nun. most of the targets tend to be nuns anyways. also bc its sexy.

leo does not die from getting her blood sucked, she can somehow survive a vampire bite so she gets reckless like this. thats also why she allows herself to be ritsus bloodbank in exchange for ritsu being able to sniff out culprits. ritsuleo also get it on extremely often because vamps love intimacy as much as they do blood

the rest of knights (naru sena and kasa) form a tiny coven, where naru and sena both head out to get food for and protect tsukasa. they dont kill but just bring blood for tsukasa and themselves. maybe they also feed tsukasa blood like shes a baby bird lmfao. leo encounters sena first in a rundown chapel, they fight but sena does manage to overpower leo since she bit down on leo and gave her a good dose of an aphrodisiac to make the process easier. they do get it on with leo up against the altar, sena having full intentions of killing her as she realizes leos a vampire hunter, only to realize blood sucking rlly doesnt work on her and she retreats once leo regains her strength.

ritsu tells leo the scent of the vampire that attacked her though does not match the scent thats present on the victims. it does not match narus either, and tsukasa never leaves the place the coven call home so ritsuleo leave them alone for the most part. tsukasa does develop a big fat attraction to leo though, lovestruck after only one encounter and decides she wants leo to become her thrall so the coven def continue to pester the two detectives/hunters. ritsu gets possesive of her beloved bloodbank but sometimes doesnt mind sharing if it means she can join in. gets fussy whenever leo smells of another vampire.
