“Turns out the jewel was never actually missing, the king’s cat had just swallowed it!”

Donald smiled as José laughed at his story. He was lucky his new roommate was such a likeable guy; he’d always shared a room with Della before and he’d been nervous that he’d end up with a jerk or a slob. Thankfully, the Brazilian parrot was neither- though his grasp of English was tenuous.

“Oh, Donald!” José laughed. “You kill my head! You are a very funny fellow!”

Donald laughed as well. The two were making their way to class, passing by one of the many fountains in the quad, when they heard a gasp behind them.

“Carumba! Can it be?!”

Donald turned, confusion turning to shock and then to excitement at the sight in front of him. A rooster, unmistakable despite the very obvious changes to his appearance since they’d last seen each other.

“Panchito!!” Donald exclaimed, practically tackling the rooster as he hugged him. “What are you doing here??”

“Schooling, of course!” Panchito grinned, hugging him back. “We are, how you say, classmates!”

“Look at you!” Donald said as he pulled back. “You look great! So does this mean you’re-?”

He stopped himself, nearly forgetting José was still there. He didn’t want to accidentally out his old friend.

“I am indeed, my friend!” Panchito grinned broadly. “And it feels wonderful!”

“That’s great! Oh! This is my roommate, José. He’s from Brazil.”

The two birds shook hands, and the three friends made their way to class, chatting excitedly and forming what would become an unbreakable bond. By the time they returned to their dorms, Panchito had even come up with a nickname for them: The Three Caballeros.
