Code: Realize 10th Anniversary April Fools Translation!

Hi all! The official Code Realize Twitter released a short story for April fools. Here is an amateur translation :)

Impey：HEEY! Beloved members of the Impey Gang! I have an important announcement!! Listen up!!

Lupin：Impey, don’t be so annoying. What time do you think it is?

Impey：Non non non. It doesn’t matter what time it is right now! Because! The flame of love I for Cardia-chan burns brightly 24/7, 365 days a year!

Van：I see. Then at this rate it’ll burn to ashes. 

Fran：Umm, Impey. What’s the important news?

Impey：Huhuhu. Listen up everyone and prepare to be amazed! Actually…It’s been 10 years since we first met Cardia-chan! There’s going to be a celebration in a far away country to celebrate!

Lupin：What? This is the first time I’ve heard about this.

Saint：Fufu. It looked like fun to sit and watch but…We don’t have much time so I’ll explain from here. In short, it seems like our dedicated fans will be holding a 10th anniversary event to celebrate the Lupin Gang’s formation. They will be collecting and displaying our portraits,  selling special merchandise, and even making altars among other things…

Fran：Is it some kind of summoning magic…?

Van：Ahh I see. So that’s the situation.

Lupin：They’re going through the trouble of holding such an event when we, the leading roles, won’t even be there?

Impey：And that’s why…we have no choice but to rush over there! We can take my Ornithopter! 

Fran：Haha, Cardia should come too, so I think an airship would be better to carry this many people.

Saint：Then how about we also prepare gifts to leave at the event venue?

Lupin：Sounds like an event-hijacking by the Lupin Gang. Well then, let’s go say hello to our fans!

Saint：ーSo, we’ve finally arrived at the venue. Although it’s a bit presumptuous, I prepared my favorite tea leaves.

Impey：Aha I see! Please remember that this country also has a Firearms and Swords Act!?

Lupin：Well, let’s stop with the usual shenanigans. This is quite the venue~ The celebratory roses I put in so much effort into stand out. 

Fran：So Lupin brought roses. I decided to bring the pudding we made this morning. I hope it makes them happy…

Impey：It has very special wrapping. The Sisi theme adds a finishing touch!

Lupin：So that’s it. I don’t want to touch Van’s, but this is…

Fran：That…It’s quite black, isn’t it?

Van：It’s chocolate.

Saint：Somehow there’s still smoke coming out of it…

Van：Because I baked it.

Impey：Oh…This is a bad ending isn’t it…

Fran：(Whispering) What do we do, Lupin?

Lupin：(Whisper) We’ve got no choice but to get rid of it afterwards.

Van：What is that…? Cardia’s…cardboard cutout?

Impey：Oh, I’m glad you noticed! That is the careful work of a genius engineer! A life-sized cutout of Cardia-chan! Press this button and you’ll hear “Impey, I love you” …

Lupin：Alright, CONFISCATED! Put it in storage!

Impey：AHHH! Impey’s painstakingly crafted masterpiece!?

Lupin：Damn, I don’t know the reason, but it’s only natural for a thief to run when being chased! Looks like we’ll be running for a while!

Saint：Fufu..In that case, we shall bid you adieu, ladies and gentlemen. Please enjoy the event.

An (Over)Analysis of 'The Place Where Happiness is Born': Saint-Germain's Character Song

Hello CR fans, resident Saint-Germain Stan here 👋😁

Today my brain has decided to fixate on this character song so I am going to type out my thoughts! There's a translated version on YouTube, but I also found the original lyrics and picked them apart with some help from my Japanese professor months ago. Her advice on certain kanji gave me ideas and I'm so grateful for her 🥺

The song begins with a calm guitar followed by a piano. These two instruments are the main ones, and can represent a sense of contentment. The guitar can represent survival, peace, and hope amidst hardship. This works because Saint became an Apostle to survive and has been working to avoid calamities among humanity. Similarly, the piano can be a symbol for luxury, wealth, and high social status, which fit Saint Germain's outer appearance. However, pianos can be representative of family unity or romance. This is important, because those are two things Saint-Germain has always wanted but believes he cannot have as a phantom of time. As the piano is present throughout the entirety of the song, I think these themes reflect the tone of the piece.

In the first verse, Saint Germain sings about how a clock suddenly lost its sound, introducing his biggest symbol. We know he goes heavy on the clock symbolism because of his massive collection lol. He has stated in his own route how his clock stopped ticking long long ago. As soon as he accepted Hermes' offer at death's door, his clock stopped and he became a new servant, a servant of fate and time. It is only when he realizes his love for Cardia or accepts his love for the Lupin Gang that he finds himself 'human' again, starting the clock once more. Related, but a drama CD (titled 'とある一夜の語らいにて ～The Side of Saint Germain') shows he knows how to repair the clocks in his mansion, so maybe he gave up the possibility of (metaphorically) fixing his own until recently? There was no need to, since he never allowed himself to get close enough to develop these feelings. And when he did have just a crumb of sympathy (i.e the plague boy), it caused a great disaster.

I guess that's why the line '身を任せて(い)る　そっと…/I gave myself up to those enchanting times', is so important. He allowed himself to open up again, to accept the little bit of peace he found with everyone in the mansion. Also, another instrument can be heard for a brief moment with this line. It reminded me of the sound of a Rainstick, an instrument that mimics the sound of rain through a tube filled with pebbles or other small items. I was reminded of the sound of sand falling, which could perhaps be in relation to the flipping of an hourglass (another symbol of time). That may be a stretch tho lol. Perhaps I thought of that because the next portion of the verse(?) talks about being seized by the flow of time and the shackles of fate. By yearning for those 'small moments' like ones of genuine laughter, he accepts that he wants that humanity back.

There are also sparkle sound effects dispersed throughout the song, but I'm not sure how to tie that into theories other than saying it's the ~ magic of love ~ haha.

Next is the chorus, which provides a crescendo of instrumentals. 3 new ones are introduced: the drums, violin, and hand percussion/sand shaker. A violin, while elegant and sophisticated, could symbolize passion or intensity. Drums can represent a rhythm of life, unity and expression. And while the sound of a sand shaker could be representative of another percussion instrument, did you notice how it replaced the sound of the clock ticking? I think it's main purpose is not to drown out that constant rhythm of time but to highlight it. Because Saint so desperately wants this happiness, this human connection, the instruments reflect his fervor to protect it.

One thing I noticed with this chorus is that the translation puts the line 「守りましょう　私の手で／続いていく幸せ」 as "let us protect this happiness". While ましょう certainly can be an invitation, I wonder if this line is specifically his desire to protect his happiness with his own hands (hence the 私). In his route, once he decides to kill the Apostles for Cardia's survival, Omnibus tells Guinevere how Saint Germain has never fought for himself; he had never wanted anything so badly that he accepted he would die for it. I interpret this line similarly; the connections he made with the Crew and Cardia are so important to him that he is willing to stand against everything he has known for hundreds of years.

This aligns with the last line in the chorus, 「創世はこの瞬間」 'Genesis is in this moment'. No longer wishing to be a part of Idea, which has strong ties to Christianity, this line is akin to saying he will be reborn as human, or at least his world is created anew. Since 創世 is pronounced はじまり(begin) and not そうせい (Genesis), I assume it is a double meaning that he will begin again with his newfound happiness. Note: I am not religious so I can't say for sure lol. All I know is my professor did confirm this kanji is specifically referencing the Biblical definition of Genesis, the creation of the world.

With the next couple lines the piano, violin, and hand percussion instruments continue as he recounts the sound of laughter every morning and his continuous wish for 'love'. Interesting how he uses 好き(すき) and not deeper meanings like 愛 (あい) or 恋 (こい). Perhaps as a form of affection, maybe platonic love for his found family?

It is after this that the music takes a shift: it briefly crescendos again and introduces a violin duet when he sings 「刻む鼓動」 'Pulsating heart.' After this line the other violin fades into the background. As violins can be representative of romance, I feel like adding the duet here is his realization of the love he has for Cardia. It might also be a general love for the Crew, but it is my belief that Saint has loved Cardia since the common route and didn't realize it until later, so I'm leaning towards the first interpretation. By mentioning the clock needle 「刻む時計の針」, it could also be him realizing his clock is ticking again! So many different ways to read this. It's my favorite line. :)

The music continues the momentum for the next two lines only to quiet down for the impactful buildup in the next verse. I think it is probably him building up his conviction to fight for the sake of everyone's future, to keep the happiness he has gained. He does not want to leave anyone behind, which is what would happen if he actually succeeded with his mission. He can't do that anymore.

Thus, the music crescendos for the last chorus. All the instruments are back and passionate as ever, reflecting Saint's true desires.

Perhaps in this one, the 「守りましょう」 could be the gang fighting together to protect their happiness. I love how the line changes from 'Even if it's broken, our happiness will be born again' to 'The happiness I want to protect more than anything else will be born again.' Additionally, changing the line from 'Genesis is in this moment' to 'Genesis is in this place' represents how Saint realizes the mansion in London (I'm assuming) is his true home. It's where his family, his humanity, his happiness, lies. And he is going to protect it for as long as he can.

With that, the rest of the instruments fade away leaving the piano and the gradual slowed ticking of a clock. He is content, at peace, and his life continues on.

TLDR; guys this immortal old man wants to be happy so bad. let him have a hot gf and a found family pls.
