Nikki shook her head, readying herself to play her part. “Oh, no, we didn’t... we wouldn’t!” She lied, sighing. “I work there, this... was not the cover that was approved, I swear. We have no idea what happened, someone must have hacked us.”

Joan looked up to the person talking to her and shrugged her shoulders, “ I guess so.” She said to her before letting an exhale out, “ It’s just a bad day that’s all.” 

Nikki tilted her head and nodded, doing her best impression of sympathy. “Yeah... I get that.” She glanced down at the paper she was holding.

Nikki moved inside the building, a copy of the paper tucked underneath her arm. She had been dodging Eric’s calls that morning because she knew he’d be freaking about the fact the front page was changed and she didn’t really know what to say. They wouldn’t suspect her though, she’d made sure she clocked out early. She glanced around and spotted Joan. “You okay there?”

Joan was on her way to her job when she noticed everyone was starting to stare at her. It made her feel uncomfortable, she had no idea why everyone was staring until someone shoved the newspaper in her face and her eyes went wide. “ Oh god… Oh no no no no.” She panically ran to her work and hid inside for the rest of the evening. “ I cannot believe this is happening…” She muttered softly. Her secret as an escort, living off her body before fully living here in Baberton is out. How? How did they find out about this?? Nikki looked up from the article she was working on when her phone went, frowning a little as she read over the message. Her old boss... she never wanted him to get any kind of push to ever come here so she felt pushed into a corner really. Plus, she’d put herself in this position to be used by -A, even though Jamie was gone. She moved to rummage through her purse and found what -A had planted in there at some point. Information about some girl. Nikki didn’t know if she would be able to pull it off but she’d have to whip up an article using this before the papers went to print later... and then sneak this onto the front page without being caught. Fuck. Sighing and feeling like she had no choice, Nikki put away what she’d been doing and started on a fresh article.

Leah nodded, “ It is, I’ve been trying to cut down on drinking. It’s definitely not working” She chuckled. 

“Huh. Kinda sounds like you’ve got a problem there then.”

“It’s just one of those days. The store was packed, not complaining about that as it’s good, and I barely had any time for myself. I’ve had more than enough drinks tonight.” 

“Well, we all have those days, I guess.” Nikki shrugged. “It’s nice to make time for yourself, even if it’s here.”
