How To Lock A Wireless Router
The uptime for any web site is extremely critical. These routers permit you to share a solitary internet connection between many computer systems. Make sure you established up the ICS computer and one client computer. First, the Linksys router login username should be left blank, and then enter the password "admin". This Linksys router login password would be a default one. You will then enter its page, where you will be able to configure the options of the router to suit your usage. However, the router works fine without needing to do any configuration as it is already functional with its default settings, and you are good to go. Yet, if this router is a wireless one, you might want to further set an SSID so that the router will be identified as yours, and then you will be able to use WEP so that you can control who uses your wireless router.
192.168.0.1 lies in the set of addresses that fall between 192.168.0.0 and 192.168.255.255. Currently, companies such as Netgear are using it as part of their broadband services.
Note:Don't make these changes with a wireless client. You will not be connected for very long if you do. Use the computer that is hard wired to the router. PRINT this document or save a copy of it local on your computer. There will be places where you will not be able to get to the Internet to read this until some changes are made. You need this document to make those changes. This documentation has been done with Windows XP. If you have Windows Vista the documentation will not match exactly. The settings are the same, but getting to the place the settings are made will be a little different. Read through this document before making any changes.
The DSL router and the cable router are another kind of router available for use. Before you begin the use, you need to set it up. Here is how you should do Linksys router setup.
Sure you probably went to great lengths to implement and secure your wireless home network, but any Network Security professional will tell you NOTHING is bullet proof.
Enable strong encryption. Select and use the strongest encryption the wireless devices in your network support. This can be easily done in the Configuration panel and you can use the IP 192.168.1.1 to access it. WEP encryption will require from you to change your password on let's say, a monthly basis. In order to prevent someone to crack your password always use numbers, capitals and special characters in your passwords.
To change the SSID, click on the Wireless tab. Look for an input item labeled SSID. It will be near the top. Enter a new name for network. Don't use something like "My Network". Use a name that is be hard to guess.
Install the wireless router according to the manufacturer's instructions. Modern wireless home networking kits make this really easy. Just connect the wireless router to power supply, connect the wireless PC card to your laptop, or USB adapter (or Ethernet cable) to the desktop PC. Then insert the installation CD into one PC and start the software installation process.
Disable Auto-connection. Although this security measure has nothing to do with the IP 192.168.1.1 it is still worth mentioning. Your wireless device will try to connect to an open wireless network. When this is done the security is very low. Check if you have any enabled connections and disable them.
