"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence

Claims like this are fascinating because they use nice, inoffensive language to mask deeply racist assumptions. The indigeneity and rights of Palestinians are diminished, while Zionism is purified of all historical meaning and content. It's treated as though it were simply the uncontestable idea of Jewish self-determination. In reality, Zionism is a supremacist ideology that has been conceptualised from the very beginning - from Herzl onwards - as an explicitly racial and Western colonial project, one which demanded the exclusion and oppression of the Palestinian people. The above is akin to arguing that European white nationalism is an innocent movement for asserting 'indigenous' European sovereignty, ignoring its racial-supremacist core.
The only way you can see Zionism - the ideology of the Deir Yassin massacre, of brutal occupation, of militarist ethno-supremacy - as emancipatory is if you believe its victims are not human. No amount of misappropriated anticolonial terminology will cover what is essentially Churchillian race-politics. Unfortunately, the inability to interrogate such colonial thinking is often a symptom of the devastating illness of Being British.

"Director Phoebe Kemp said in a statement: “Twelfth Night already toys with gender and performance – it feels like Shakespeare wrote it for us. This reading is about joy, solidarity and showing what’s possible when trans and nonbinary artists are at the centre of the story.”"

ANTISEMITISM PSA!
Voltaire never said this! It was first said by an American neo-Nazi in 1993, and is explicitly about Jews and how you're "not allowed" to question the Holocaust.
I understand a lot of people don't know this. I don't think you're a Nazi just because you quote it, because Nazis LOVE to misattribute it to Voltaire and spread it around.
If you post this quote in discussions about Israel, you're 100% being antisemitic, because you're buying into "Jews are wealthy through illicit means and run the world behind the scenes" conspiracy theories from the FUCKING MIDDLE AGES. And also has that spicy hint of Holocaust denial still clinging to it.
You're allowed to criticize Israel. Please do. Please do it without literally quoting Nazis.

in the uk, you need to have lived and worked in the country for 5 years under a work visa to apply for "indefinite leave to remain" (i.e. permanent residency). keir starmer's labour government plans to increase that requirement to 10 years.
indefinite leave to remain is a prerequisite for british citizenship. only citizens are allowed to vote in any election.
if you're in the uk on a work visa and you're fired or laid off, you have 60 days to find a new job with a company that can sponsor your visa. if you can't find a new job, you need to leave the country before your 60 days are up.
if you have to leave the country and come back later on a new work visa, none of the time on your previous work visa counts toward any application for indefinite leave to remain. the clock resets to zero.
so what you have here is a segment of the population who risk deportation if they lose their jobs for any reason--meaning it can be very dangerous to raise issues about their working conditions--and who may end up working and paying taxes in the uk for decades without basic citizens' rights, i.e. the ability to vote and have their interests represented by those who govern them.
and the real kicker is that the government keeps telling us they're going to fix the problem of modern slavery.

I see a lot of posts from Americans urging people to phone senators and other representatives when something happens, or is about to happen, that would have a detrimental affect on the lives of many people.
I honestly feel that Brits should be partaking in this kind of lobbying, especially when the Prime Minister of a party that is supposed to stand up for minorities and worker's rights males a speech about curtailing immigration that's so heinous that it bears comparison to Enoch Powell's 'Rivers of blood' speech.
I don't think it's an exaggeration that Starmer's speech was that Xenophobic. To say that Britain is becoming an 'Island of Stangers' belongs in Nigel Farage's mouth. I didn't vote for this. This is so far beyond what I thought my government might try to do that I'm speechless.
But I'm NOT powerless. And nor are YOU! And this is where the lobbying takes place. Care for calais, one of the charities supporting migrants and refugees has drafted an email you san send. You can find it here
So many petition sites have email drafts on a vast range of things to local MPs or the Prime Minister. Use them. Fill inboxes with your thoughts and wishes to ensure the UK doesn't slide backwards. You can edit most of them to add personal thoughts. I've been adding a sentence on most to say I'm now regretting voting Labour. I don't know who to turn to (but Reform can jump in the sea)
Please use your voice.
USA followers, please reblog to spread the word.

"We risk becoming an island of strangers, not a nation that walks forwards together." - Keir Starmer, 12.05.2025
All people are strangers until you befriend them, regardless of where they were born. Shame on this government of bigotry.
