I suppose my experience was different because it was undergrad anatomy so we didn't need to be so elaborate to see every inch of the body or get to see such intricate procedures like seeing the brain or all the muscles in neck. However i can say I felt the same day as OP I walked into lab every time with this huge sense of curiosity and absolute excitement for knowledge. Sometimes I would wonder why I did not feel guilt or sadness for the human that once lived in this body but there was something empowering to know that because of her givings, she would be training doctors or even just people to save lives of hundreds of people. It was a obligation to learn as much as I could from this amazing gift this woman had left and I memorized all I could. Each day fascination became adoration and respect for the human body. My anatomy class was probably 3 years ago but it was an experience I will not forget. I have such a great understanding of the human body. It makes me feel greatly honored to have that privilege.

I was talking with some first years about their experiences in anatomy, and it made me remember something. The only potent feeling I got from anatomy was guilt over not feeling more emotions about it. I can rationalize it as a powerful experience and reflecting back it seems important and solemn, but at the time I don’t remember feeling much of anything besides curiosity as to why I wasn’t feeling more disturbed, awe-struck, or whatever-you-want-to-call-it about the whole thing. I’m certain I’m not some sort of sociopath (if not just because I bawl my eyes out in most films–yes even dumb ones like Interstellar), and I think a sociopath probably wouldn’t even feel guilty over not feeling emotions, right? Anyway, I don’t even think it’s that uncommon of an experience. How did (or does) dissecting a cadaver make y’all feel?

Why is it ridiculous amazing? I’ll just put it this way: the company spent a lot of money figuring out which words are likely to appear on your future standardized tests–SAT, ACT and AP–and it was nothing illegal, the company was just really thorough.

And hear the words read aloud here, if you prefer. Listen while you work or as you go to sleep, as one of my colleagues does (no joke).

5. Meditation

That’s right: our own breath and mindfulness = best resource ever. Ever try meditation and fail? (Yeah, me too.) Here’s an eight-minute meditation exercise that features the most relaxing song ever. Or just listen to the song here.

6. O*Net Online

Amazing resource for learning about different jobs and careers. Not sure what you want to study, or specific jobs exist in your field? Just type a search term like “medicine” into the box at the top right. You’ll learn a lot in a little time.
