Latest Updates on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
With a vision of eradicating poverty from India, the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi had launched the Pradhan Mantri Housing Yojana (Urban) in June 2015. This scheme was launched with an aim to provide affordable houses with all the basic amenities like water facility, sanitation, and electricity supply. This scheme was especially designed for the urban poor group of the society. The government identified 305 cities and 9 states initially for the construction of these affordable houses.

It is proposed that about 2 Crore houses will be built by the year 2022 for urban poor, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This includes the Economically Weaker Sections, Low Income Groups, and Medium Income Groups in urban areas. This will be achieved through a financial assistance of ₹ 2 trillion from the Central Government.
The government will provide an interest subsidy of 6.5 per cent on housing loans under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana availed by the beneficiaries for a period of 15 years. The houses under the scheme would be constructed with the help of advanced architectural norms and technology to make them eco-friendly. Also, the houses under this scheme will be allocated to the females as preference to female applicants will be given over males.

· Finance Minister – Mr. Arun Jaitley stated in his budget speech that was delivered on February 1, 2017 that the size of affordable housing carpet area will be extended.
· The Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs – Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the loan subsidy for the middle-income group under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been extended till 31st March 2020.
· Hardeep Singh Puri also stated that more than ₹ 6900 Crores interest subsidy on housing loans has been disbursed to over 3.14 lakh beneficiaries of Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

Eligibility Criteria to Participate in the PMAY

The collective annual income at house should be within the limit as described under EWS and LIG.

If the bank finds you eligible, they will forward your application to the Central Nodal Agency. If Central Nodal Agency approves your application, it will pay the subsidy amount to the bank.
