THE CAPTAIN AND THE MALMEDY MASSACRE

- The Captain participated in the infamous Malmedy massacre on December 17, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge.The image you see below is present in chapter 82 of the Hellsing manga, and shows the Captain dressed in a classic Wehrmacht soldier uniform:

I only watched Hellsing Ultimate so I don’t know if there’s any differences or whatnot, but didn’t Seras defeat the Captain? Wouldn’t that mean that Seras is stronger than Alucard and the Captain?

Thanks for the question! The answer is very simple: Seras Victoria is absolutely NOT stronger than Alucard and the Captain. While she was fighting against the Captain inside the airship, it was the Captain himself who threw the silver tooth at her so that she could defeat him. He could have easily killed her numerous times during the fight, but he chose not to, as he desperately wanted to die (like all the other soldiers in the battalion).

Seras is undoubtedly a very strong character, but she will never be able to overcome the strength of two ancient and powerful creatures like Alucard and the Captain (with many centuries of experience behind them). She only managed to defeat the Captain because he allowed her to kill him.

CAPTAIN’S COMBAT KNIFE

In addition to his two long-barreled Mauser c96 pistols, the Captain also uses a combat knife as a weapon. However, the aforementioned knife is only shown in chapter 21 of the manga:

where is the myth of werewolves most widespread?

Well, the myth of werewolves is spread all over the world. However, the place where the greatest number of sightings and trials of werewolves have occurred is Europe (especially Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria).

I live in a small mountain village on the border between Italy and Switzerland, and here there are many legends about werewolves. In particular, my grandmother told me that an elderly hunter who lived here in my village had cut off the right front leg of a large black wolf in the woods. However, the enormous animal (which was known to the inhabitants for killing two cows and a child) managed to escape. The next day, when he went back into the woods, the hunter saw an unknown (and completely unclothed) man prowling into he forest with his severed and bleeding right hand. I don't know what happened next, but it is said that the werewolf is still seeking revenge.

This is just one of the many legends that circulate here in my area, and there are even more scattered throughout Europe.

THE CAPTAIN’S PREY

Over the centuries, humans have given him many names:

However, only one is the name by which the Captain recognizes himself: Werewolf. A creature cursed and doomed to live forever, just like vampires. Although he did his best to keep his dark and ferocious instincts under control, he could not deny his predatory nature.

He had been a weapon of mass destruction during World War II, and had killed countless people, but despite that … he hadn’t felt the slightest remorse.

He felt nothing even when, in December 1944, he participated in the Malmedy massacre and executed countless American soldiers with his bare hands.

❝Captain, kill them all! Show them who you are! You are a predator, a hunter! Catch the prey, hold it tightly in your jaws, and never let it go!❞

Even years later, the major’s words rang in his mind as he silently stared at his delightful prey walking through the woods wearing a flashy, long red cloak. The Captain licked his lips and came out of his hiding place, making the young woman recognize his presence. His menacing aura, comparable to that of a thousand soldiers put together, reached the girl, who began to tremble in fear. When the young woman’s terrified gaze met the Captain’s piercing red eyes, the werewolf’s instincts grew stronger.

He knew that look of fear very well. It was the same emotion that all humans and animals that met him felt. Some screamed, others cried and pleaded for their lives, but whatever their reaction was, there was always that look of terror imprinted on their faces. He too had felt it when, centuries ago, he had been a human. However, now he was no longer a human being … he was a predator, a werewolf.

With that last thought, the Captain raised his head towards the full moon, and let out a deep growl. Subsequently, he took off his old army green coat and threw it to the ground. Even in his human form, his werewolf features were unmistakable: his blood-red eyes, the peculiar color of his hair, his sharp teeth, and his frighteningly tall and powerful body never went unnoticed.

With an impassive look, he watched the young woman start running to try desperately to escape from him. However, the poor and unfortunate prey had no idea that she would soon be captured by the Captain’s mighty jaws.

OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING!!

What's your favourite headcanon for the Captain? Which one lives in your head rent free despite canon? Which headcanon of yours isn't disproven by canon?

1- My favorite headcanon about the Captain is that he turned into a werewolf many centuries before the events of Hellsing The Dawn and Hellsing Ultimate. In my opinion, he was a human being (just like Alucard before he became a vampire), who then turned into a werewolf after being bitten and contaminated by another werewolf, who trasmitted to him the curse of lycanthropy . Here in Europe there are many legends and theories about how the transformation from human to werewolf happened in ancient times, but the most common is that of the infected bite.

2- Another headcanon that I like and that lives in my head rent free, is that the Captain has many hidden ''passions / talents'': Considering his military background and his astounding strength, I think he is very good at repairing machines and machinery that normal people would never be able to fix with their bare hands. Also, since he personally fought as a soldier on the battlefield during WWII, I think he is an expert on many types of weapons, and that he cleans his two Mauser C96 pistols every day to keep them in good working.

3- I don't know, maybe the fact that the Captain is an expert on many types of weapons is true, as he is a soldier and a WWII veteran. In Hellsing Ultimate and Hellsing The Dawn he always uses his two Mauser C96 pistols, but when he participated in the Malmedy Massacre on December 17, 1944 (chapter 82 of the manga) he is shown holding a Karabiner 98k rifle:
