So what is NLTB?

Nothing Left To Burn is a discord based semi-literate roleplay group, loosely based on the Warriors series by Erin Hunter!  The story follows two tribes, Those Who Cross The Mountains and Those Who Run Through The Valley. For a long time, both tribes have lived in an uneasy peace, with skirmishes and bloodshed frequently erupting at the border. Recently though, cats have been disappearing and not even The Ancestors know where they’ve gone. As more seemingly disappear into thin air, including the deputy of Those Who Cross The Mountains, tensions mount higher and higher, each side searching for answers in the seemingly endless tunnels and snow covered mountains. In the end, what will you be willing to sacrifice in order to ensure your own survival?

Those Who Cross The Mountains

Those Who Cross The Mountains are a regal breed, claiming to trace their ancestry all the way back to the first cats to walk these lands, great hulking beasts with fearsome fangs and long shaggy fur. Each has learned from kittenhood to list their heritage through their mother's lineage, though as new generations are born names are lost to time, though their eyes still gaze down at their children from the highest point. Dynasty: Wind that screams between the mountaintops (Wind)     - Succeeded by Rook that watches from the cliffs (Rook) Rook that watches from the cliffs (Rook)     - Succeeded by Watcher of the falling stars (Watcher) Watcher of the falling stars (Watcher) - Watcher was the first leader to make contact with The Ancestors and appoint a Starwatcher, in return they and all leaders after were granted eight extra lives to serve their tribe with.     - Succeeded by Ice that cracks as the warmth comes (Ice) Ice that cracks as the warmth comes - Her rule was interrupted by a series of bloody uprisings, in which the tribe split, her deputy taking many into the valley. Falcon that perches on The Highest peak     - Succeeded by Spirit that talks through the rocks (first and only Starwatcher to take a role as temporary leader during a time of duress) Spirit that talks through the rocks     - Ruled for a period of four seasons before they appointed Blizzard that screams through the mountains Blizzard that screams through the mountains - The current ruler of the Mountain cats, claims to be a direct descendant of Watcher.

Those Who Cross The Mountains

Beliefs and Holidays:

Beliefs: 

Those Who Cross The Mountain believe feverishly in The Ancestors, thanking them for every kill from the day they're old enough to suckle to the last hours of their life. To them life is cyclical, an endless circle of joyous life and peaceful death. It is considered customary to name two of your litter after your great granddam and sire, in the hope that their spirits will return to the earth in the kitten and continue the cycle. To forget a cat's name is considered the final death, purposely scoring their spirit from existence for eternity. Holidays:  Those Who Cross The Mountain have four major holidays, each celebrated on the solstices and equinoxes. 

The Festival of The Rising Sun is the biggest, a time when the whole tribe gets together and feasts to celebrate making it through the winter and giving thanks to the ancestors for their guidance. The whole clan gathers to hunt and feast together, leaving out prey before the skulls of their ancestors as a thank you gift. 

The second greatest feast is The Great Warming a more peaceful celebration of the ending thaw. Now that the floods and sogginess have died down the cats all take a few days to clean out all the garbage from the last year and rebuild any dens that have melted. It's at this time that the Starwatcher and the medics add the skulls of any who have previously died to the cairn after having them rest and return to the land. 

 Next up in the yearly cycle is First Chills the beginning of the time when freshkill is hoarded and buried deep beneath the snow in order to keep it fresh for longer. Any old freshkill that was discovered is disposed of immediately dropped into the river The rest of the day is considered a time to spend time together and share tongues with old friends. 

 Finally there is Starry Night where the whole tribe gathers together to watch the stars wheel over head in the cloudless sky. This is a day of rest and relaxation. If you're very very lucky, an ancestor may even come down from the stars to talk to you!

Those Who Cross The Mountains

Daily Life & Customs:

Naming:     Names are of high importance to Those Who Cross The Mountain, each sacred and highly honored. After three moons of life the kittens are given their truename, the very first word in their clanname. It is considered the highest disrespect to address a cat by their truename if the pair of you are anything but mates, and doing so is about as equivalent to spitting on the corpse of the cat's mother.     When a tribe member completes their training at 24 moons they receive their clanname, which is often dependent on their personality, notable events that occurred during their to-be hood, or however lyrical the leader was feeling that day. Every cat is addressed like this, no matter how much of a mouthful it is. Kittenhood:       Kittens are named at three moons, as litter casualty rate is vastly high in the cold and bitter cliffs (52%). Each is raised by all the queens at once, with no parent taking a special role in their life, this forms strong family bonds between all the kittens despite their varied lineages. If the queens stayed separate then the kitten casualty rate would be much higher, especially when it comes to the large litters that are common among the Mountain cats.  To-be:     Kittens become to-bes at 10 moons, and are sorted into a role based on a collaboration between the cats of the council, those cats being; Starwatcher, Leader, Deputy, and Head Queen. These to-bes are trained intensively by their mentors until they become 24 moons old and receive their clannames.  Healers, Swifts, and Warriors:     Swifts and Warriors will be out often in groups of 2-5 as going out alone further than to the dirtplace can be deadly. Swifts will be sent out on patrols to hunt prey, accompanied by two warriors. Larger parties (5+) will be able to go out alone as they won't be seen as prey by the predator birds that the Swifts hunt. Medics can only go out accompanied by at least one warrior or two swifts, due to a sheer lack of survival skills. Council Members:     Those of the council are the highest ranks, Leader, Starwatcher, Deputy, Head Warrior, Head Swift, Head Queen. They have a monthly meeting before attending the gathering in order to discuss and provide an open forum to the concerns of all ranks. If any cat makes it to living longer than 120 moons they are allowed an honorary seat on the council.

Admin Intro

Hi there! I’m Admin Wyrd, and this here is a blog for my roleplay, Nothing Left To Burn!  I came up with the idea for this story over the summer of 2018, and finally set up the discord server that September! It’s amazing getting to share this story with all of you, and even if you’re just poking around, I hope you like what you see enough to drop by and join the server!
