joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

whether you’re a sex worker yourself or someone close enough to us to really see our inner lives, i think the resounding realization that washes over so many is how much of the belief the general public has about sex work is media and stereotype and stigma and manufactured. it’s all a lie to dissuade people from engaging in something so harmless and so fun and so freeing. i feel like becoming a sex worker and learning the truth over a decade + has made me a far more curious and critical of the social structures that affect how we judge one another & i’d even say i feel like a far more accepting person because of it. it feels like it came naturally, along with understanding that i’m likely gonna face stigma for the rest of my life just for a simple career path choice and the process of coming to terms with that reality.
it’s just disappointing that this stigma can be unlearned and so many people choose not to because it’s uncomfortable for folks to admit they were misguided.

an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc
and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean
and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere
horsepower. turns out it's horsepower.
and I'm absolutely FASCINATED that a commonly used initialism from 1908 now stands for something different AND YET the contextual meaning is still the same to a 21st-century reader
I could hand this guy my nintendo switch and he'd be like, ah yes I understand, this ''''pokemon'''' loses horsepower throughout the fight
language is amazing

It is so disturbing how every time a disabled person is brutally murdered by their caregiver, the conversation revolves around what we can do to give more support to caregivers and not the welfare of disabled people and how to give people with disabilities more agency and support in escaping abusive and neglectful situations. Don’t get me wrong, caregiving is hard but I am so tired of the “I feel so bad for the caregiver, their life was so rough and then they just snapped :(” narrative and not acknowledging that the disabled individual was uniquely vulnerable and completely at the whim of someone who despised them, felt they had no inherent worth and killed them. The rates of abuse experienced by disabled people are always conveniently left out of the narrative. So often it’s twisted into something justifiable, that you should relate to the murderer and not the victim. It is so sick.

We've not only taken away all of the physical spaces for our children to exist in, we're now taking away the electronic ones as well. I'm sure this won't have any negative consequences.

My husband (has cancer) is a frequent customer of a local family-run pharmacy. It’s much more personal and welcoming there than at a chain pharmacy — they recognize us and I feel very comfortable asking them questions about medications (husband currently has a lot).
Anyway this week my husband’s prior authorization for a medication was delayed and he decided he would pay the out-of-pocket cost rather than wait a couple days for medicine he needs to go to work. It was a $100 prescription so this was tough but not earth-shattering.
Anyway; the lead pharmacist noticed that he was being charged for his normally-insured medication, asked him about it, and took 50% off as a gift. He said every year at Christmas they have staff and community contribute to a fund to help people pay for medications, and whenever a usual customer is facing an unexpected charge, they can cover some of the cost.
Reminder to support your local businesses, build your local community!

i think we should swap yaoi and yuri tropes more. a pair of doomed teenage boys taking a break from their afterschool music club to go on a cute planetarium date, shyly brushing fingers while internal dialogue goes on and on about the purity of their relationship. on other side of town a lesbian is getting railed by a mafia boss.
