Traumatized in Ireland While my Family is Facing Death and Starvation in Gaza

I contemplate the happy faces of people around me here in Ireland and reminisce about the happy normal life my family and I had before the war. A life that turned into a distant memory for us and was replaced by an unending series of horrible nightmares.

Unlike my family in Gaza, people here have access to drinking water, all types of food, electricity, and a roof over their heads. Above all, they are safe, and I cannot help but wonder if they genuinely do appreciate these blessings in their lives enough.

People seem relaxed and laughing wholeheartedly around me in Ireland. I wish I could laugh too, but I am crushed way beyond recovery on the inside. I was evacuated by my Irish college after five months of living the horrors of war in Gaza. I hope you will never know what it feels like to live in constant fear and worry and be horrified by the most sickening and scary nightmares every single night while you are far away from your family in such circumstances.

When did my people in Gaza cease to be human beings worthy and deserving of a normal life? Has it become normal now for my family in Gaza to be starved and killed while the whole world is watching the genocide? If that is the case, then you will have to excuse me if I seek every avenue to bring them to Ireland and start a new normal life like all people here around me.

I was assured by the Irish Reugee Council (IRC) and lawyers in Ireland that there is hope I can reunite with my family in Ireland. In difficult times, it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For me and my family, you are literally our light and hope for a better life.

Today after a whole year of displacement and the harsh suffering we are still living in this genocide in Gaza.

After our many attempts to survive, we actually survived, but it was only the survival of the body, the soul and the psychological health for me, my husband and my two children did not survive! Even the body survived apparently, but it is very weak due to the famine and the suffering in obtaining food and drink.

As the conflict escalates, our access to food, clean water, and basic necessities has dwindled. Everyday here is like a battle, not just with death surrounding us everywhere, but against huner and despair.

Today, after more than a year of living under the genocide, losing everything in our lives. More than a year of patience on famine and suffering and trying to overcome difficulties to survive, A whole year full of WHERE DO WE GO? what is our fault? what is our kids fault?

Ahmed and his family have been displaced over 7 times since October 2023. In this state, they are unable to access medical care; which is putting Ahmed, his uncle, and his grandmother all in danger.

Ahmed himself was born with a birth defect caused by phosphorous bombings in 2008. He has lived his whole life with his teeth and hair growing irregularly, and his family had been saving up to get him surgery to help with his teeth. However, now all the money they have saved up has had to be used to purchase basic resources, leaving them with none left to get Ahmed treated.

On top of that, his uncle is in a wheelchair suffering from paralysis and his grandmother is diabetic with high blood pressure. They both also need treatment, but are unable to get it in Ghazzah.

In order to help Ahmed get treated and evacuate his family, they need to raise €50,000. So far, they've only raised €2,901; their last donation was 3 hours ago.

My name is Mohammed Ayyad from Gaza. My wife, children and I were displaced quickly since the first days of the war on Gaza, leaving behind all our wealth and dreams. We are forced to leave our home and live in the south of Gaza, Rafah.

He had open heart surgery before the war and worked in a private medical analysis center where he holds a bachelor's degree. We had no income other than his work, which he lost due to the war. I have two sons, Ahmed, 4 years old, and Saleh, 2 years old.

During the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, we went through very difficult circumstances. We were displaced several times and lost our home, which we paid for with all our savings, due to enemy bombs shortly after our first displacement. We lost all the beautiful things that my family and I used to enjoy, and the most difficult beautiful thing we lost was security and living in peace, due to the violent bombing that surrounded us everywhere we fled to.

Our days were difficult to say the least, as there were no viable sources of work to get the money we needed to meet our needs. Our situation is tragic and we are still stuck in a tent with no healthy food, no medicine, no water, and no electricity.

During the displacement process, we lost the stable and entertaining life that I, my husband, and my children used to live. They lost all the toys they loved and played with all the time and were deprived of the beautiful childhood they lived in the first days of their childhood. My husband, who suffers all the time from fatigue, exhaustion, and displacement from one tent to another, which made us despair. We were in a beautiful house to a tent in the middle of the street with no place to sleep. I need your help in raising money to leave the Gaza Strip because of the war.

This requires me to raise $20,000 that will cover the evacuation fees and our travel and transportation expenses, and about $30,000 that will go to rebuild our house when we return, God willing, so that the total amount I need will be $50,000.

I need to raise money to restore a beautiful life and stability outside the Gaza Strip. Everything I say only reaches a small amount of the suffering we are living. This is a glimpse into the contrast between our lives before the aggression and the nightmare we are suffering now under the aggression. Thank you for your support and solidarity.
