2018 Reads: We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
Sometimes I think gravity may be death in disguise. Other times I think gravity is love, which is why love’s only demand is that we fall.Â

“That sounds so weird: kill yourself. It makes it sound like you tried to murder someone, only that someone is you. But killing someone is wrong and I don’t think suicide is. It’s my life, right?”

It’s strange how many ways there are to miss someone. You miss the things they did and who they were, but you also miss who you were to them. The way everything you said and did was beautiful or entertaining or important. How much you mattered.

LITEDIT:Â OTP [1/?] Christopher Steed x Barabas Gilliam
“Is everything okay between you and Barabas?”
He looked into the distance. “Things are complicated at the moment. Before, I wasn’t in my right mind. Now he doesn’t know who I am.”
Who are you, Christopher? “What about you? How do you feel about it?”
“I love him.”
I wished I knew what to say.

Gods & Monsters of KATE DANIELS WORLD
God: Deimos (Δεῖμος meaning “dread” ) Â
Deimos was the son of Ares and Aphrodite. He is the twin brother of Phobos and nephew of the goddess Enyo who accompanied her brother Ares into battle, as well as his father’s attendants, Trembling, Fear, Dread and Panic. Deimos is a personification and an abstraction of the sheer terror that is brought by war.

Sharrim means “of the king”. It is spoken by Ghastek, by Roland’s retainers, by sahanu, and even by Nick, who is trying to twist the knife in the wound, because this word is used to remind Kate where she comes from.
The one person who never uses “Sharrim” is Erra. Erra calls Kate Sharratum. Queen. She does so because Erra doesn’t owe her power to anyone. She doesn’t need her father to legitimize her, and she recognizes Kate in the same way, as family, queen by bloodline and right, powerful independently of Roland.

“So that’s the secret,” the Beast Lord said. … “Secret to what?” “Secret to shutting you up,” he said. “I just have to beat you till you’re half-dead, then give you chicken soup and” - he raised his hands - “blessed silence.”
