Where he started to where he was on opening night as that bright, shining, vibrant Lola that we’ve all seen and loved was just an amazing feat of magic. It was a thrill to work with him as a choreographer, to teach him the steps and to find out who his Lola was -- how she moved, how she sung, how she danced. And then when we came back in 2019 to remount the production, I guess he must’ve been working on his own for the two years in between because he was even better. He was more confident, he owned the role more than I ever dreamed he could go beyond, and he was my friend. I loved him. He cared about us, I cared about him. He was a joy. My heart breaks thinking about him, and I just hope that he has peace now. And I am so grateful for the opportunity that I got to know him. Not only as an actor, but I got to know Haruma the person that I call my friend. Forever my friend. Nothing but love. Nothing but love.
