“somebody sounds a little stressed.” lucky’s words were accompanied with his trademark smirk, hands tucked into the pockets of his jeans. “if you ever needed a little help dealing with that tension, you know where to find me.” he contemplated a wink but, at the last second, decided it would potentially be a step too far. the scotsman couldn’t ever gauge what kind of response he’d get from nohemi. some days she seemed to enjoy his flirting and give as good as she got. other days, it seemed like she’d react as though he’d just insulted her entire family and everyone remotely close to her. “anyway, why would i need to go fuck myself? plenty of people have offered to do it for me.”

"thanks, but no thanks. even if i happen to be a little stressed, i doubt you’d be able to do anything to help me– you’d probably just be an even bigger headache.” nohemi let a sly smile tug her lips upwards. “you definitely wouldn’t be my first choice of company, no offence.” it wasn’t that she didn’t like lucky, it was quite on the contrary actually; sometimes his excessive flirting and brazen demeanour could just get on her nerves. though she had to admit, more often than not their little bantering sessions were a good way to let off some steam and have a little fun. “and i hate to be the one to break it to you, but the desperate way you attempt to flirt with everyone seems to imply otherwise.” she quirked an eyebrow up at lucky, before averting her attention to her nails like she was growing bored with the conversation. “maybe you should do something about that.”

it was irritating, if nothing else, to have to take time out of her day to do this. it was her day off too– if she was going to be up this early nohemi would much rather finish up some of her own work. street dilemma was still actively working on a third mixtape and she even had some classwork left to do that'd been previously pushed aside in an effort to prioritize. there were so many other things that she could be doing with her time, but this was a necessary evil.

as nohemi crossed the lot from her apartment building to the spot where her car was parked, she pulled her phone out of her handbag. honestly, she hadn’t even cleared her plans with oliver, but they generally stayed informed about each other’s schedules in an effort to coordinate and she hadn’t heard about anything pressing that he needed to do this morning. with any luck he’d already be awake and they could get this out of the way. the sooner they took care of it, the sooner they could move on to other, more productive things.

Cheyenne's audacity really shouldn't be this much of a surprise anymore. “Like you’re one to talk. I’m perfectly capable of looking out for myself, thank you very much. I don’t need someone like you to try and do it for me. I’m sure you’ve got your hands more than full right now, trying to look out for yourself. I don’t know how Mari does it, honestly. It must be exhausting looking after you all the time.”

It wasn’t even what Noehemi had said, it was the way she said it. Or maybe it was the expression on her face, or maybe it was just the wrong time, but Cheyenne was fuming, as she always seemed to be when this bitch was around.

“Every single time I see you, you get in my way and get in my face. You always have some bullshit spewing from your mouth like froth from a rabid dog. You are insane,” Cheyenne snapped, knowing that it was probably mutual, but there was something about this woman that just got on her very last nerve. “I’m actually concerned for you, I’m not quite sure how you’re functioning. Does your brain just float around in your head not attached to anything?”

God, how could one woman be so infuriating? “Sorry, but I just don’t know what your problem is; it’s not my fault you refuse to listen to me.” Nohemi couldn’t believe this was all the result of a silly little comment she’d made, even if the two of them had never really seen eye to eye in the first place. “I’ve already told you that I was only referring to the success of my career in comparison to yours when I commented about ‘having money’. There’s no need to get so bent out of shape– it’s getting a bit ridiculous at this point, honestly,” she huffed, resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the other woman’s antics. One of them had to be mature, after all.

“I would say that I appreciate your concern, but I really don’t. I’m clearly functioning much better than you ever will if this whole ordeal is any indication. You call me insane, but you’re really just acting like a child. Would it kill you to grow up a little and stop overreacting?”

if bean had to make a list of her least favourite things in the world (something which she did, in fact, do on a regular basis in her head so she knew what she had to complain about), her job would be somewhere near the very top of the list. retail was, potentially, her worst nightmare in terms of occupation. being a person with a distinct dislike of people, she hated her job increasingly with every single day that passed. stupid questions, stupid conversations, and stupid damned people. still, she couldn’t exactly turn the job down or quit. sure, pandemonium was on the way up but definitely not enough for her to feasibly be able to afford to quit her job. finding a new job was more effort than bean was willing to make, so sticking with retail was pretty much the only option she had.

it had been an early start once more, bean’s absolute least favourite kind of shift. early mornings meant grumpy customers who took out their frustrations on innocent staff members. however, worse than grumpy customers was that voice. it had her almost frozen to the spot as she heard the name called to her. cringing inwardly, she turned to face the other and offered a clearly forced smile to nohemi. “hey, hun!” urgh. hun. “i guess i blow dried it a little differently.” what a lie. “you look… different today!” even bean couldn’t muster up the acting abilities to give nohemi a compliment that seemed even remotely genuine. 

honestly, if bean was this bad of an actor it was clear why she chose to pursue music instead of the dramatic arts. just looking at the other woman’s faked smile made nohemi want to cringe. at least she could carry out the pleasantries required to make it through the shift together. “oh, how unfortunate. you should really try to do something...” here she paused, making a show of searching for the right word. “more with your hair. maybe that way it’ll turn out a bit better. i know an excellent stylist, you should consider giving her a call sometime; she’d probably have some advice for you.”

as she turned away briefly to look through the purse at her side, nohemi took the opportunity to roll her eyes. bean really couldn’t put in the effort to act kind towards her, could she? ‘you look different’– what kind of a compliment was that supposed to be? it didn’t sound genuine at all, though nohemi sincerely doubted that it was meant to be in the first place. of course, it looked like it would be up to her to keep things civilized. “i did test out a new palette today, thank you for noticing.” nohemi said and while it was truthful, it was mostly based on the assumption that bean knew next to nothing about makeup. “here,” she pulled a small white card out of her bag and held it out in bean’s direction. “this is my stylist’s card. you should hang onto it, in case you decide to do something about your hair.”

"I’m not the one being difficult, Kieran. I’m simply stating facts, I can’t help the reactions of some people.” Nohemi felt it wasn’t necessary to name who those certain people were. Honestly, this shouldn’t have been such a surprise; it was Pandemonium– obviously little would be accomplished beyond the usual bickering. But her additional presence had nothing to do with it, really they should be able to handle things like adults, should they not? Of course, no one in the group could claim to call themselves an adult truthfully, but it was the principle of it all, really.

She had a job to do (a role to play) as Oliver’s girlfriend, whether they liked it or not. As someone’s significant other you had a certain obligation to support your partner, and that, in this scenario, meant showing up to Oliver’s practices and shows every so often; it should be expected that Nohemi be there. “I don’t see why I shouldn’t be here. Just because they don’t like me? When has that ever stopped me, really.”
