Support a pregnant trans person- 2nd and final update

Hey everyone, this is our final updated donation post on the status of our baby.

We are pregnant with a planned baby, and due to COVID getting so bad in our area, I am now working from home with cut hours on medical accommodations. You can read the details in these two posts [x] [x]

We got our sweet baby Sam’s diagnosis, and it is much more grim than the original speculation of spina bifida. They have multiple severe brain and heart defects. After several extensive medical consultations from fetal cardiologists and 3 perinatologists, we have determined that Sam is not compatible with life. We will be getting an induction of labor and an autopsy to find out exactly what was going on with our sweet baby. We also had amniocentesis done, so that should give us an idea of anything chromosomally or genetically that could be affecting Sam.

We will be inducing labor hopefully next week. I will be in recovery for 6-8 weeks after delivery. If my delivery is covered by insurance, my out of pocket costs will be around $3000. If it’s not, it will be much more expensive, and I will update this post with the final delivery cost. We don’t know if it will be covered until early next week because AZ is not good with these kind of things, but we’re hopeful.

Due to the sudden nature of Sam’s diagnosis and prognosis, we are definitely set back budget wise and could use some help. We did not expect my hours to be cut in exchange for a medical accommodation, and I’m about to be off work for 6-8 weeks before returning to campus full-time.

To everyone that has supported us so far, I am beyond grateful for everything you have given us. I promise the baby supplies you have donated will not go to waste. We will be trying again as soon as we get genetic testing done and I return to work full-time. Sam has been a blessing to us after years of infertility and several miscarriages. All we want is to have a family. Our nursery was almost finished.

If you have any experience with something like this and would like to share your story, I would be happy to hear it. It’s nice knowing that we’re not alone. This is the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make, and I didn’t think that we would become parents in such a terrible way.

We are also looking for resources on clothes for babies smaller than micro preemies, as well as other memorabilia type things to help with Sam’s passing, as well as grief resources that are accessible during the pandemic. Meal train resources would also be a great resource as well, just so my husband can have a break from cooking while helping me recover from labor.

And, more than anything else, please be kind and keep our family in your hearts. We appreciate good vibes, prayers, rituals and anything else that your belief system does for loss of a child and grief.
