I. the legitimacy of er*tic expression

literature has always been a space for exploration, confrontation, and discovery — a place where all human emotions, from our softest desires to our most tempestuous ones, find a home. yet, among so many forms of expression, erotic literature remains a territory often looked down upon, frequently rejected even by those who claim to defend art and the written word.

it’s curious how intimacy, when written, becomes taboo. as if desire, passion, and touch — these experiences so inherently human — were unworthy of being explored in prose or verse. and within literary communities themselves, which should be spaces of creative freedom, this rejection becomes even more evident. erotic literature, so rich in symbolism, so capable of unveiling human vulnerability and strength, is often reduced to something vulgar or inappropriate.

this prejudice doesn’t just come from the outside but from within artistic circles, where art is expected to be delicate, to speak of flowers, apples, or acceptable sorrows. as if beauty could not be found in the fever of desire, in trembling flesh, in words that burn. as if writing about eroticism were less worthy than writing about longing or death. and so, many writers feel compelled to soften their words, to conceal their intentions, afraid of being seen as less talented or respectable.

but the truth is that erotic literature is a legitimate form of expression. it carries the weight of vulnerability, the intensity of desire, the complexity of human relationships. it can be poetic, visceral, elegant, or raw — but above all, it is art. and art should not be limited by modesty or fear of judgment.

may we learn to respect all forms of writing. may passion, when transformed into words, be seen for what it truly is: a vital part of the human experience, worthy of being told, felt, and read.
