Very sad and tragic story. Lived so many years fighting off imaginary threats because of her horror that she forgets to enjoy life with her family 😭
Say something bad about this character!

See THIS is why it confuses me that people still think Anna is somehow the less devoted one in this relationship. Homegirl legit said "I will let you kill me to prove my love to you because I do not want to live without you" AND PEOPLE THINK SHE WAS JOKING???
If anything, Lenore is more likely to betray Annabel (not saying she ever would) because she has less riding on this relationship. That is to say, if she and Anna don't work out then she still has people to fall back on. Annabel is staking EVERYTHING on Lenore
I think we should get to see Annabel just be pathetically in love with Lenore.
Like, yes. I firmly believe that they both simp for each other.
But I feel Lenore’s love is more chivalrous devotion, “You not only brought me back to life but gave me something to love and live for.” Princess charming kinda gal.
Where’s Annabel’s is “You are the most pure thing I have ever had. I would not only let the world burn, I would burn it my self, with my own hands, just to see you smile. And I would do so much worse to be able to call you mine, I am at your beck and call, whatever you want, pet. I will make it happen.” Just complete blind love.
For example, let’s say, Annabel killed one of the misfits. Lenore would probably fucking freak out and maybe never talk to her again. She loves her, but that’s crossed a line.
But Lenore could stab three people to death in front of Annabel and the only thing she’d be able to focus on is how the red makes her eyes even more attention catching.

Un crossover chistoso y ya
Traduction in english
Bruno: Just a reminder that the tour through Casita is free, but before we begin, I want to thank the young man wearing a cap for giving me 2 dolars. Héctor: Why did you gave 2 dolars to the owner of the house? Tadashi: I thought he was a homeless.

@neelistuff Girl...didn't you say it was past your bedtime lmao. Go to sleep
Anyway, it has nothing to do with characterizations or interpretations or anything. I just...saw what was happening on screen and listened to the words coming out of the speaker. Alma very clearly apologized TWICE, and both Mirabel and Bruno's apologies were shot down immediately. Like, with no opinions on any of the characters, that is just what happened.
Guys if you still think in 2023 that Alma never apologized at the end of the movie and/or Mirabel and Bruno were "forced" to apologize for things that weren't their faults then I simply have no choice but to think you're irreparably stupid sorry

@neelistuff The only thing I'm aggressive about is the rampant misinformation. If you watched the movie with your eyes and ears open then you'd understand what actually happened

@neelistuff I brought up his age because yall treat him like he's a helpless little boy that had no say in anything ever. And it's weird that you bring up flaws because Pepa's and especially ALMA'S are literally always talked about while Bruno's are pretty much ignored in favor of the infantilization. One of biggest flaws being, ofc, the hiding himself away in the walls, an objectively dumbass pla that served no one and made everything 10x worse. I'm not a Bruno hater but he's no entirely blameless in some aspects
i love bruno,i don't like how some Bruno stans vilanize pepa.

Bruno: ...Is it just me or are they acting strange?
Camilo: Yeah no, I lost the plot five minutes ago. Kind of a messed up thing to say to your daughter though. And I'm like 90% sure half of this stuff isn't true anyway.
Bruno: Luisa usually isn't so rude...
Antonio: Maybe they're sick?
Dolores: Cactus juice
Bruno: We should get th- what?
Dolores: Isabela was helping Tia test a new aguapanela recipe. She made it with cactus juice.
Bruno: And it's making them act like...that?
Isabela, Julieta, and Luisa: *synchronized * iT's tHe QuEnChieST
Dolores: Or they're drunk.
Luisa: Has anyone seen Mirabel?
Camilo: She’s in her room sewing.
Dolores: Isabela said she felt bad she always stressed her out, so she bought her some new fabrics and Mirabel’s been happily sewing ever since.
Luisa: Wow… that’s very nice and… un-Isabela-like of her.
Antonio: She’s really not that bad, Luisa.
Dolores: I agree, I think you should make more of an effort to be civil with her.
Luisa: Maybe I will.
Isabela, walking over: What are you lot gossiping about over there?
Luisa: We’re talking about what a selfish bitch-ass motherfucker you are.
Camilo: Not even a seconds hesitation—

Agustín: Not to be a proud Tío but like, Antonio’s games, Dolores’ poetry, Camilo’s acting. Am I right or am I right?
Félix: Fair, I raise you Luisa’s dancing, Isabela’s high notes, Mirabel’s embroidery.
Julieta: How about Dolores’ expertise to play any instrument, Camilo’s humour that makes everyone smile, and Antonio’s excited giggles before sharing animal facts?
Pepa: Pathetic, all three of you. Isabela’s smug everything when she pulls off a prank, Mirabel’s care for detail when explaining philosophical knowledge, Luisa’s loud and aggressive passion when she bakes.
Agustín: Ohhhhh! Yes!
Félix: Our nieces are indeed remarkable, mi vada. I think you win.
Julieta: She clearly cheated… another round?

People like to hyperfocus on the parts that they didn't like and draw their entire conclusion based on those few parts. That just sounds...exhausting to me. Idk how they can be so hateful
No but the fact that Alma is just as broken as the rest of the family, and the fact that her holding in her emotions was part of the problem and the fact that she recognized that she was in the wrong and that she made her family think her love was conditional, and the fact that she apologizes and the fact that she says “The miracle is not some magic that you’ve got. The miracle is you, not some gift, just you.” and it’s like, wow, that was exactly what they needed to hear and exactly what she forgot to show them and and and
Alma isn’t a bad person, she’s scared. And fear makes people act cruelly. And she realizes and admits her mistake, and she starts trying to make up for it, and I think that looking at her as irredeemable is ignoring the whole point. The point being that family is about accepting each other and understanding each other and opening up to each other and Alma was alone for so long that she forgot this, until Mirabel reminded her that she wasn’t alone.
Alma made bad decisions and she was hard on everyone but goddammit she apologized and she’s trying to make up for it and that’s more than some of us get so let me have my imaginary abuela who tells me she’s sorry and tries to make up for it all and who reassures me that I’m not the reason our family is broken, no matter what she may once have believed, okay?

So, I keep seeing people compare Encanto and Turning Red. More specifically Alma and Ming and while they definitely run the same theme, I think you guys are just a little bit off the mark in some areas.
Everyone keeps comparing Mei and Ming's relationship to Alma and Mirabel's when it's much more similar to Alma and Isabela's.
Mei is like the textbook definition of a Golden Child. Has no privacy, has a crippling fear of disappointing/upsetting Ming, can do no wrong in her mother's eyes, and has to hide any traits that clash with her mother's perception of her. Basically, everything Isabela is to Alma.
Their motivations are very similar as we with the main source of it being a need to protect their children from the world. Or in Ming's case, Mei herself.
I think the only difference is in the way Mei and Isabela respond to their assigned roles. Mei has a lot more reprieve than Isa does and is able to express herself with her friends at school and is essentially leading a double life. Isabela does not have that outlet and has completely given herself over to the perfect persona while suppressing her true self 24/7. This lack of expressive outlet has causes a deep build up of resentment for her persona that characterizes itself in lashing out at her younger sister.
I get why people are doing this. Because Mei and Mirabel are the main characters, it makes sense to compare them but their roles in their respective movies really aren't that similar. Mei is not at all scapegoated like Mirabel is. It kind of reminds me of when people were comparing Encanto to Coco because of the similar themes and...another reason despite them being very different movies.

Agreed
I headcanon none of the Madrigals hates their gifts. I’ve been doing it since the beginning, but I’m doing it more and more aggressively as time passes and the fandom gets bigger, filling with more and more takes about the Madrigals being The Most Miserable People On Earth Ever.
First things first: I’ve always thought gifts aren’t the problem (no, not even the crappiest ones, like Bruno’s or Dolores’s), but the bad use they’re forced to do of them. As we see in the movie with Isabela and Luisa, even with Bruno, they never complain about the gifts themselves. Isabela just wants to expand her powers, Luisa just wants to take a break and Bruno just wants people to stop assuming the worst. Gifts are deeply rooted in everyone’s personalities, they’re manifestations of who they are (and this is canon). But by the time the movie is set in, things have twisted and their relationships with their gifts are rotting due to the unhealthy coping mechanisms the family is trapped in and the pressure the whole town put over them.
Actually, the whole point of Encanto is overcoming those coping mechanisms and rediscovering a healthier relationship with their gifts (a healthier relationship with themselves, not just between each other). And that’s why they recover them at the end of the movie, once they have healed and are ready to enjoy them in the way they’re always meant to be. Because gifts are an essential part of who they are. In fact, I bet their control of their gifts has improved a lot after the reconstruction of Casita and, as well as their doors have no pictures because now they’re not defined just by their gifts anymore, they’re also able to use them in the way they wish to. Why everyone assumes that, when the gifts return, they work just exactly like before? Why couldn’t they have improved too?
That’s why I don’t think gifts made them miserable since they were five (among other reasons). And that’s why I don’t find any sense in the theory of gifts making them miserable even after the movie either, as if all the process of healing means nothing.
