doll grian headcanon that he has a squeaker in him
im just imagining someone hugging him, hearing him squeak and being all confused until they realize the squeaking came from inside him
Mumbo was the first person on Hermitcraft to find this out. (Pearl already knew, because she'd known Grian longer, but she wasn't a hermit yet when Grian first was.) Grian swore Mumbo to secrecy.
Scar is also a very huggy person. And despite Grian's protests, Scar will not.
Stop.
SQUEAKING him.
And of course now that Scar knows, EVERYONE knows, because Scar will hug or punch or shove Grian to squeak him whenever it might be a funny moment to do so. So now half the server has this little game where, when they visit, they run or fly at Grian, trying to hit juuuust the right spot, colliding with him and squeaking him before Grian can dodge out of the way.
Grian might begrudgingly admit that it has gotten kind of funny.

Good news, @flowers-drawingz! While not following the same headcanon, I have an older fic that gives Grian vex magic for a while...
~Mod Leo
Idk if you allow ships, but like, Vex Scar who likes to affectionately bite Grian
While shipping isn't the main focus of our blog, we are okay with the occasional non-explicit one as long as it's focused on non-human features!
Vex bites aren't inherently dangerous. If bitten by a vex that's just been summoned, it's about as bad as a bite from a cat. Vexes need time to build up their magic, as most of the magic when they've just been created is used to maintain their form. Most of them die before they can move past this.
With Scar it's a bit different. He's been out in the world for ages eating vex magic and diamonds. There's a lot of it in his body, especially as he hasn't used it as much lately. So if he's not careful with his love nips, Grian might end up with some leftover vex magic. It'll be temporary, just until it's used up or dissipates, but it's probably more dangerous for the rest of the server than Grian himself. Grian with vex magic is something that shouldn't be unleashed.

According to Tango's file, he's a human with fire powers. In truth? Nobody knows. X just put "human" on there so he wouldn't have to go through the trouble of finding out.
But a human wouldn't have just fallen from the sky one day.
A human wouldn't have ripped wings that shine like the sun. Or horns that made everyone mistake him for some kind of demon.
A human wouldn't have stories about them as far back as Tango might. Stories about a burning god, exiled and thrown to earth, crashed into a server full of people just like him.
But then again, he could just be normal.
Right?
The thing is, Tango also doesn't know what he is. He has memories of a time 'before', but they aren't... Clear. He blames it on the whole falling out the sky thing, tends to muddlicate the brain. So the stories he tells are mostly memory based, but also a bit more of just... Making it up.
Tango could research what he is, but... He doesn't think anything good will be found there. He'd rather be a 'human with fire powers'. He has a family in the hermits now, and they wouldn't throw him from the sky!
Well, they wouldn't unless it was funny.

Impulse uses his tail to make Skizz trip on his face. Skizz uses his wings to slap Impulse in his face.
They do it only in the most petty moment
For winged people, it's a natural instinct to throw their wings out for balance when they stumble on something. It's definitely only instinct and unconscious movement. That's what Skizz tells Impulse, anyway, any time Impulse "accidentally" swings his tail in front of Skizz and gets an "accidental" wing to the face in return.

Tango is a Nether dragon. Lava flows under his scales, fire flickers between his spine spikes and is constantly lit at the tip of his tail. He can change forms, of course, his dragon form is easily a hundred blocks long, if not more, and it'd be hard to hide that he was a dragon if he couldn't look like a humanoid. The lava in his blood is probably the biggest reason that he never froze to death building Decked Out 2, though it definitely was an inconvenience a few times when he accidentally melted ice and snow.
During season nine, the hermits learned not to worry if they heard a roar in the distance.
It usually meant Tango had accidentally melted the ice around his redstone again.

Herobrine is basically the Zeus of the Minecraft world, the the sense that he has... a lot of descendants
so realistically it shouldn't be a surprise that Joehills and TFC are half brothers
It's, somehow, always a suprise to everybody else. Maybe the way one of them will casually mention it in conversation - with no context - and continue on - with no context - doesn't help.
Getting them to elaborate is an impossible mission. Unless you want to listen to them complain about how annoying family get togethers are for a few hours.

I like to think Iskall is some type of fish hybrid after Beef made his house into some type of salmon thing lol
Iskall is great at adapting. It just so happens that this particular adaptation is what would annoy Beef the most. Their feud has nothing to do with his new scales, gills and ability to breathe underwater and happily live in his newly decorated home. Noooo, Beef is just imagining it. Purely coincidental his prank would backfire in such a way!

Heyo,I wonder what happens when you get yeeted in the void?hmmmm,,,Does your body turn into one of them or does your body just be stuck there till the end of time?Hmmmmmm...
Falling into the void is terrifying, yes. There's nothing but endless darkness rushing up to great you, hammering your body and your ears.
But, when eyes close, they're gently cupped in large, unseen hands. There's a slight 'pop' as somebody gets transported through dimensions, dimensional planes shattering for the briefest second.
And then those hands gently nestle their hermit into their bed. The covers are tucked over their shoulders, curtains pulled shut. Their admin smiles at them, and the hermit is left to rest, none-the-wiser to their journey home.

I once made Zed an Angel for an au, got any thoughts on that?
The thing about being an angel is that it's more of a job title than a lifelong commitment. At least, it is to Zed. He gets the wings (very pretty, if high maintenance), he gets the halo (not just a round hoop, so no dunks onto his head) and he gets the unfathomable form he can switch into for business!
See, he's an angel of death. Not in the terms of actually killing people, but moreso guiding them to wherever they need to go next.
And, as it turns out, he's able to have a lot of fun with that job description.
The hermits could keep him busy enough by themselves, but where's the excitement in that?! No, no, no, what he gets to do is come up with silly games and challenges where he gets to sweep the hermits back to their spawn afterwards. It's great! And it gives him an excuse not to take part in Demise because obviously he's needed to look after them all following their tragic and untimely deaths.
Other benefits of the job include: sneaking up behind hermits in his true angel form and reaping the rewards (screaming, it's usually screaming.)

Etho is an end hybrid. Of the entire end dimension, so he has different traits of it, such as endstone colored hair, the ability to teleport, will sometimes hiccup shulker bullets(hence the mask) has extra inventory slots, and also has wings.
See, 'hybrid' is perhaps not the right term. Etho is made of the end dimension - data and code coalesced into a player shaped mould. He is the universe tasting itself, enjoying everything there is to offer with a body carved of the very blocks he walks on.
Whilst he may appear like a normal player from a distance, there's no mistaking it when you look into his uninjured eye. The void sits there, with the same vertigo as staring into the neverending darkness of the end.

antelope grian
He loves to ram people with his horns. It's a problem, because those horns are sharp, and he refuses to smooth them down. Not everyone is built like Grian is!
The solution? Pool noodles of shame. It doesn't stop Grian from knocking people over, but at least he's not stabbing them whilst he does it anymore.

wels as a wolf/dog hybrid. he hides it well with his armour, but it explains his position as the knight of the server. he is very protective of his friends and family.
Wels didn't think anyone would ever find out... Except maybe Ren. The wolf hybrid would easily be able to sniff him out if he tried.
But Wels always had his floppy ears safely tucked up in his helmet, and his tail hidden in the excess flowing fabric of his belt.
Then Helsknight showed up ears and tail on full display, and everyone found out.
Wels had been trained to never show his ears or tail, they would only cause him pain if his opponents found out. But the hermit's reaction wasn't aggressive. They were just happy he told them

ok, with all the weird fish stuff on the server do you guys have any ideas on what's going on?
Considering one of us got possessed by dredge for a week, we've also got our own problems over here!
But seriously, do we have any ideas? We sure do...
Beef has no idea who Big Salmon is, but they make a very compelling argument. Well, maybe more like very compelling hallucinations of fish... But who is he to refuse an offer like that? It's honest work, and taking his mind off the definitely-not-scales on his arms and chest and the surely-not-concerning bony lumps he found on his forehead yesterday.
(The scales are much more noticeable on his sleeveless colleague. Big Salmon provides all their workers with certain benefits, and it's definitely a benefit and not Beef's fault at all. He hopes.)
Pearl remembers a world that destroyed itself a thousand years ago. Her home here is not dissimilar to her home there. And the fishy features appearing from her face and body are not dissimilar to one of two sibling rulers from that world... except that these scales were that of his worst enemy, the creature that, eventually, led to total destruction. Pearl stares into a furnace, its contents already beginning to subsume her thoughts. "Salmon..." she murmurs to herself. "Why is it always fish?"
Grian and Gem brought the (curse? mutation? disease?) to Magical Mountain by accident. Pearl's gifts helped, of course, as did Scar's collection of fish heads, but none of them noticed any particular changes to themselves until the fishing started. Until Grian started wading further and further into the water, and Gem started fishing up stranger and stranger fish, clearly different but never quite off enough to throw out. Surely they'd all be fine to eat. And if everyone around the mountain is growing scales and gills, then it's probably a normal thing. Right?
xB thinks he should have been suspicious of the salmon earlier. He's seen it before: someone traveled too far upstream, without enough supplies, and returned - if they returned at all - changed to near unrecognizability, deliriously rambling about the fish they'd seen. Of course, there was no way for him to know at a glance that the salmon here were infected; he hadn't seen it happen in a long time - since a time before the ocean ruins were ruined.

Etho is a phantom hybrid. There you go. The anonymous one known as Sock will appear again.
Bdubs likes to claim it's why he and Etho get along so well! Bdubs has a proper sleeping schedule, so it doesn't agitate Etho's instincts. He does this because he's Etho's friend, and not because he once stayed up late and saw piercing eyes, glowing in the darkness as shadowed wings blocked out the light from the doorway.
Yep. Definitely just friendship.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME MAKE A COMPREHENSIBE LIST OF THE VARIOUS NONHUMAN MUMBO VARIETIES
We're sure we don't have a comprehensive list either - as with many things fandom, there are probably almost as many options as there are fans! But here's a list of some we've talked about or heard of:
Vampire - a classic at this point, popularized around late season 6 and again throughout season 8
"Shapeshifter" - often seen as being its own "species" of sorts, similar to being a fae or elf or something. (ed.: Mod Leo's favorite interpretation of this makes Mumbo similar to the Pokemon Ditto, in particular the beady eyes and inability to change its face.) Sometimes this is flavoured using S8 lore that he consumes things to transform.
Robot - it seems like most redstoners get robot-ified at some point or another :P
Parrot - mostly a one-off idea that we posted here! Not seen it used elsewhere.
Watcher - same as above.
Moth - not incredibly common, but used by a few artists in the fandom over time!
Enderman - tol and funky. (I use this as my main headcanon - 🦆🦆)
Skulk'd - not seen a lot but definitely floated around at some point. People used to think the Warden mouth looked like Mumbo's mustache and would make him a Warden.
Demon - similar to above. He appears to be summonable.
Anyone else who has more to add, feel free to reblog with more answers! The best way to get the most comprehensive list is to get a lot of people weighing in!

Shapeshifter!Pearl but she specifically shifts into Australian animals.
the hermits can just be going about their day when they just see a random dingo (possibly with a hard hat) just parading around the shopping district. The moment they try to catch it, it just shifts into a bat and flys away.
We love this.
On an ordinary day on the Hermitcraft server, you might find a random koala in the shopping district. She's clinging to the shop doorway of somebody who's annoyed her lately and sleeping there. Nobody has the heart to move her so they can enter the shop. This is why she does it.
When it's time to fight, it's time for the kangaroo. She could fight normally, but where's the fun in that? And how many people get to say they've beaten up a kangaroo, it's bragging rights!
Sometimes she's an echidna, the spiky ball of terror. Her favourite hobby is to walk slowly towards the nearest hermit. Never speeding up. Never stopping. Just to see how they react.
She'll also pop out as a snake. Mostly in Scar's base. For absolutely no reason at all. It's useful for gossiping with Cleo's snakes too - you wouldn't believe the news they have.
Of course, she doesn't try to be incognito about it. All of them wear proper hard hats. Safety first!

I just remembered this old fanfic I read in my early days in the fandom where Impulse was a witch but didn't want anyone to know out of fear. Of course when they all find out they're completely cool about it
I like to imagine that he takes lessons from Stress (who I also headcannon as a witch)
ohh I love that idea.
If anyone has a link to that fic I'd love to read it.
Stress is a wonderful witch
