Glares are typically very short. Not much light and food to go around when you’re bigger.

However, Glare Hybrids are a different story. Glare Hybrids typically live deep underground, in small towns carved from stone and moss, usually with a farming focus on glowberries. With the new food security, it became a status symbol and desirable quality to these communities to be taller.

This is where Bdubs comes in. Bdubs was the tallest and biggest in his town and he was proud of it. Until he moved to the surface world and joined the hermits.

He went from the tallest member of his community, to the smallest in the matter of seconds.

The Vex are type of Fae, with several different monikers and titles. The most prevalent one other than “Vex”, is “Iron Fae” due to the fact they aren’t harmed or repelled by iron. This makes them as feared as they are elusive, as they rarely appear or are ever seen. But the main signal that one is near, is that the ambient temperature of the room will gradually begin to drop.

That might explain why Grian talks to Scar outside; do you know how expensive it is to reheat a room after Scar or Cub walk in?

Speak of expenses, Fae Creatures are actually a little more common than people might think. They took the world of business and economics like a fish to water. Loopholes, Contract Deals, and an endless amount of people who just give their names as freebies? Count them in! Fortunately, Scar was clumsy enough to accidentally reveal both his and Cub’s true name when Xisuma was travelling, which led to them joining.

Considering all of this, maybe don’t eat Scar’s cookies. Even if they look perfectly baked and smell divine.

Etho is…. Something. No one knows what he means by that. Every time the other hermits ask him what he is, he just replies “Something”. He never elaborates, but several people notice how his shadow is… wrong. Not like it’s too big, too small, too wide, or too skinny, it’s just wrong.

Impulse accidentally pulled his mask down. Impulse doesn’t remember anything, only waking up with blood running down his cheeks. Pearl swears she saw Etho split his head open to reveal lights in colours she’d never seen before. Gem notes that when they spar, his blood is odd. It’s like a liquid pretending to be blood.

Several hermits tried investigating on their own, but give up. They said that they felt like there were eyes boring into them and they suddenly had horrible nightmares about their flesh rotting away or about being dragged to the bottom of the sea by something.

Perhaps it’s best to let this question remain a mystery.

Cub and Scar sold their souls to The Vex in return for magic and joining their ranks, but the exchange wasn't exactly... fair. It was mostly Scar's concoction, but he essentially managed to scam them into giving Convex complete free reign over what they do with their magic. What happened was Scar sneakily edited the soul contract after being given it, but didn't actually say he changed it, so The Vex ended up ratifying an unfair (to them) pact because they didn't read over the fine print again after getting it back. It was completely magically legal, and the modified contract is valid, it was just very very sneaky and underhanded.

Being turned into a Watcher or a Listener really messes with ones code, all players turned Watcher/Listener are basically shapeshifters—they just have very little control over when and what they shapeshift into. It’s hard for them to keep a solid form for extended periods of time, leading to a lot of unexplained disappearances or shifts.

Mumbo is a known shapeshifter because he struggles to notice when he’s reaching the limit, but he’s been able to keep away the suspicion of being something else, for the most part at least. It’s just too much energy he doesn’t have to try and make the shifts less noticeable. He also just finds shapeshifting fun!

Pearl and Grian are a little bit better at it. The shifts are small, barely noticeable. They’ve been Watchers for a very long time. So what if it feels like Grian’s wings are a different shape and colour every week? They were always like that! What colour are Pearls eyes meant to be again? What do you mean she’s taller than Tango, could’ve sworn she was shorter… And why does she have wolf ears in old photos? Isn’t she human?

I headcanon that Impulse and Skizz are like the only 2 fully humans on hermitcraft and felt left out, so they made cosplay stuff, nobody but the 2 of them knows.

Some of my personal non human headcanons for some of the hermits:

Grian: a bird yes we know hes a bird its the obvious choice and even if its basic I love it, BUT I specifically raise you a Kingfisher bird for Season 10 Grian, given the fishing obsession. BUT ALSO Grian being a cat? I feel like he'd be a calico or a tortie.

Gem: Turkish Van [ancient cat breed that is naturally very fond of water, often called Swimming Cats]. Or some sort of mythological water creature. maybe a kelpie.

Skizz: An angel, of course, but more like a terrifying biblically accurate shapeshifting allpowerful being that's barely holding together his "human" form

Impulse: Cyborg, as of season 10

Joel: hes giving red panda vibes this HC season, but also black footed cat vibes. black footed cats are very small [heh] but one of the deadliest wild cats in the world by kills [Joel is kind of a PVP god].

Mumbo: okay so theres this mob that I think was in one of the April Fools updates, it was called the Redstone Bug and it was basically like a little redstone silverfish if Im remembering correctly. anyways, do I even need to say more?

Scar: Cataur! specifically I think he'd be something like a lion or a puma, or maybe an Abyssinian wildcat. or a caracal!!

Tango: obvious answer is blazeborn of course, I mean it fits and is the obvious choice but honestly I'm really interested in the idea of breezeborn Tango. also Tango who was literally just Some Guy once but after years and years of extreme redstone exposure ever since he was a kid, its taken over him entirely to the point where its questionable if he can even be considered human anymore.

Pearl: Dingo. But also… Moobloom?

Etho: I do love the common headcanon of arctic fox and the more recent white kitsune, but I raise you lynx! Canadian lynx specifically, obviously. but also he could be a phantom!

Bdubs: Creeper. hes loud and sometimes hot headed and explosive, quick to jump to fight mode when someone was just trying to give him a compliment. [also, I mean the Glare is also a pretty obvious choice. I mean, a little mossy creature that alerts you when its night time? literally Bdubs].

Ren: for a man whos whole identity is being a dog, he's such a wet cat type of guy

Cleo: I mean zombie is literally in her name so that onces kind of canon anyways. but I feel like some sort of gorgon or ekhidna creature also fits her

Iskall: sea snake. one thats venomous but generally non aggressive

Zedaph: he's such a wet dog of a man I cant explain it. probably a livestock guardian dog, one of the big fluffy ones like the Maremma Sheepdog or Great Pyrenees or Bernese Mountain Dog

Xisuma: just an eldritch horror type being, an extension of the void itself, barely able to contain itself in a stable human form

Martyn: either a Piglin or Piglin Brute

Jimmy: he's… something. "human" but slightly to the left

This has led him to be accidentally locked out of a house and he ends up spending his time watching reruns of the Great British Bakeoff in his van, with crappy spotty wifi.

When Scar eats diamonds, the reason why it freaks everyone out isn't because it's weird (it's Scar, what were you expecting?) it's because he's *eating diamonds.* Like crunching them with ease, no sweat, no broken teeth, just chomping down. It reminds others of just how ludicrously strong Vex teeth and jaws are and that they could do if used against a person...

He reassures the hermits that he would never bite them. but, accidents do happen.

Scar is a vex hybrid, not much is known about vexes, because usually when you see one they are bound to an evoker.

Scar is how all the hermits found out that vexes can purr, they found out because he was in Cleo's cat cafe book store and was surrounded by purring cats, while purring.

Cleo called it the purr puddle.
