are they a warden (canon origin or oc?), hawke (default or custom?), inquisitor (canon origin or oc?), companion, misc canon, oc, or are they from a completely different fandom and have a dragon age au/verse?

"Nice work you did. You're gonna go far, kid." He's always been impressed with his sister's handle on magic, but this took the cake. But he couldn't leave the compliment without tacking on a little quip. "Maybe someday you'll be as good as me."

A QUICK, A BARELY - THERE GLANCE over her shoulder not only confirms fenris' words to be true, but also proves them to be a gross underestimation. for every person daring to move in their direction, there's at least ten more who can't muster enough confidence to approach and, therefore, settle for poorly disguised staring and thinly veiled gossiping. it isn't the first time they've been the focus of such intense scrutiny; she knows both of them have garnered reputations as individuals and further infamy as the champion's companions. so this isn't an unheard of occurrence in her life — but nevertheless, she draws in a breath, still as a statue as an acute sense of discomfort crawls beneath her skin.

AN IDEA FORMS ITSELF, THEN. bethany's eyes remain on the crowd, but she leans closer, something conspiratorial in her movements as the distance between between them grows shorter. ❝ come with me. ❞ the words are followed by a gentle touch, as she places her hand on his forearm. ❝ if we go now, they won't catch us. ❞ the tightening of her grip is intentional, yet a certain looseness of it doesn't vanish. she'll do anything to spare her former friend of any additional burden ( maker knows he's been dealt far more than is fair ), but not if it goes against his wishes.

FINALLY, THE FOCUS OF HER GAZE SHIFTS. the crowd loses it as she turns around and faces fenris. with her back turned toward this large crowd of strangers, no energy is expended in concealing the flickers of worry that glimmer in her eyes. ❝ please, fenris. ❞ a quiet whisper, a soft plea. ❝ you've given these people more than enough today. ❞ no doubt they would hunger for more in the days, weeks, months to come, but if she is to decide, today's feast ends here and now.

just a quick fyi that my activity will be even more sparse for a moment ! i just started a new job as a practical nurse / childcare worker. it's exactly what i want to do & the kiddos are great, but i'd be lying if i said i haven't been exhausted af every day after work. i'll be back in full force once i've adjusted a bit better. in the meantime, i'm 100% available for plotting / chatting via tumblr IMs or dis.cord xo

wordlessly, bethany opens her palm, revealing a hastily written note. ❝ from athenril. change of plans. ❞ it is not often she is sent on a mission without her brother; furthermore, a certain comfort is ever present when her sibling is by her side. but, considering their line of work, comfort is hardly a guarantee. ❝ the exchange of goods will be happening near the docks today instead of tomorrow in lowtown. ❞ she pauses then, long enough for a sigh to escape. ❝ athenril suspects trouble. ❞

the idea of inquisitor!beth is great, but the more i think about, the more i realize just how much beth would hate it. she'd make an excellent companion and a stellar advisor. being the actual leader, though? 0/10 would rather succumb to the effects of the taint.

DISCRETION HAS BECOME HER OVER THE YEARS. at first, it was the game of slipping through the cracks to avoid templar attention ; since then, the same has continued, except that the templars have traded places with darkspawn hordes. circumspection has all but guaranteed her survival, but there is nothing discreet about the way she marches through the village of haven. people's eyes follow her hurried steps, their looks hang upon the back of her cloak, but bethany ignores them all, her gaze sharply focused on the giant door not too far from her now.

ONCE CLOSE ENOUGH, HER MOVEMENTS COME TO A HALT, left hand coming to lay upon the hard material for the briefest of seconds before she pushes. despite its heaviness, the door of the haven's chantry opens quickly enough. she slips through and immediately, desperation evident in her eyes, starts scanning the crowd. he has to be here. he must be———

❝ brother. ❞ the word escapes from her lips without a thought when bethany spots her twin ( how long has it been since the last time they saw each other ? ). increasing hastiness, once more, marks her steps as she moves toward him ; stopping does not occur until she is near enough to wrap her arms around him. ❝ thank the maker you're alive. ❞ her eyes flutter close in pure relief, her arms wrapping around him even tighter. ❝ i was so worried something might have happened to you ! ❞
