I also love how Chris says "Jill, you're okay" in this scene. It's sounds so sincere and affectionate to the point you can hear the relief in his voice. The fact Chris tried to reach out to Jill through the bars, but he can't because he's so weak from being infected, is so romantic. No one can tell me their not in love with each other.
Jill's iconic composure's greatly featured for whole REDeathIsland but she loses own cool seeing Chris pale; she keeps her classic calm in all situations even during Licker's assault she avoids tank from falling with an EXTREME coldness but she can't help to look worried for her partner conditions

Jill's attitude is different for Claire and Leon instead: she tries to look reassuring like a big sister in front of her and when the BSAA agent is worried for Leon, Jill doesn't lose focus on Dylan, keeping to aim him anyway.
Ps. It's so tender Chris appears to be that raised getting Jill is okay despite he's infected and imprisoned along with Claire whose desperately worried for

Death Island is About the Choices We Have in Dealing with Our Own Grief and Trauma
Tumblr media
I've been thinking about this for- well, since the movie came out and I'm sure the theme of the movie is obvious to people, but hey, I'm a writer at heart and I wanted to unpack this.
Towards the beginning of the movie, we get the scene of Chris and Jill at the shooting range confiding to each other about their trauma- with Jill obviously still struggling from what Wesker put her through. But also, Chris takes that moment to also confide in her about the pain of losing Piers.
I truly believe this is Chris' first time telling Jill about Piers, because its the first time he's opened up to anyone about Piers. There's too much for one post to talk about men's mental health and how they're not encouraged to seek support for their mental health- especially from other men to get their emotional needs met, but this is a topic that very much relates to Chris in this context. Piers was probably the only man in his life he's even attempted to be vulnerable with, and that's why Piers means so much to him.
When he saw Jill was struggling to push forward and continue through her trauma, he saw himself with how he was through most of RE6- filled with guilt, hatred and seeking redemption for the tragedy of his first squad in the game, as he holding himself responsible for their deaths.
Since he saw himself in what Jill was going through, he knew she was on a destructive path for herself that would've consume her and possibly got more innocent people killed. Chris knew that because his own recklessness in RE6 indirectly caused the death of his second squad.
Tumblr media
I can very much see Jill being the only person in his life that he can talk openly too. He has friends and a sister, but as we learned from the novelization for RE5 Chris doesn't confide in others or reach out for help. For those three years he was searching for clues to find Jill, he didn't tell a single person.
Tumblr media
Dylan Blake represents what any of the main four- Chris, Jill, Claire, or Leon could've have/would become if they let their own grief and trauma consume them. He's the "numbness" Chris was warning Jill about. Dylan felt so guilty and helpless against the evil in the world, he became it. He chose to become that. Leon even said that in response to Dr. Taylor asking how the rest of them haven't given up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the end of the movie, Jill confronted Dylan about his choice to destroy the world over the trauma of killing his best friend, where she told him to deal with it himself- as in, 'don't take it out on innocent people.'
Tumblr media
Again, the movie goes back to the element of choice that every person has. Even though trauma and grief are relative to each individual's lived experiences, we all go through it at some point in our life. Resilience is learning to live with those feelings, not becoming numb to them.
Final Thoughts: Can we get to a place, collectively, where we normalize men being emotional and supportive in platonic relationships with other men? This is my problem when it comes to the shipping of Chris and Piers, besides the fact they're shown to have no romantic chemistry what's-so-ever. I think seeing straight men be emotional with each other is so foreign to a lot of people that the second they see it, they assume that they must be gay or bi. These are fictional characters and you can ship who you want, but just something to think about.

Despite his huge sense of responsibility, Chris totally loses the focus on mission everytime Jill's missing, since RE1
Tumblr media
In RErevelations, Chris quits Veltro abouts just after he's discovered new evidences of it in order to search for Jill without asking for O'Brian's opinion either
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In RE5 he goes to Kijuju mainly cause he heard Jill's rumors right in that location. Chris himself points up "there are no more orders from here on it" not having HQ contacts anymore and...well, the entire plot's based to find his partner
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for REDeathIsland as well, Chris just doesn't care of what's happening, how many infected tourists may be there or other stuff: his goal is Jill's safety
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In other words, Chris' focus is and always will be Jill. That's for almost 30 years.
💚My precious beloved ValenField💙

Yeah Excella...he is xD (and we love him also for that♡)

The absolute trust Jill Valentine & Chris Redfield share since 1996 is the core of their relationship. In RE5 that's remarked with her famous line
"Don't you trust your partner?"
referring to herself to Chris and the OST which is playing in that moment named right "Trust"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Trust" music reprises "Sad But True" one, Jill's boss fight theme, and it's called like that in order to point up their immense bond for each other.

Am I the only one who thinks there's something so intimate about Chris grabbing Jill's gun from her own holster?

Everyone around Chris and Jill knows the true nature of their relationship.
For both OG Resident Evil 1 and REremake Jill's ending with Barry only,he tells about his wife and kids but after saw her sad face,he immediately stops. Then she says it's ok 'cause she knows he's still alive.
Tumblr media
Jill's referring to Chris and Barry is already aware of it,that's why he's sorry.

I love the way ValenField's such so damn deep since the very first chapter!

I think the little differences between the English and Japanese versions are interesting. The English version has Jill looking to the side and a different colored shirt than the Japanese version. Why lol? Also, both dialogues are basically saying the same thing just with different little details and different emphasis on the subject: In the English version, there's more of an emphasis on Jill looking for Chris to stop Umbrella, but in the Japanese version Umbrella isn't even mentioned and the focus is just on them reunited to make their next move. Again, nothing really significant, to me. The little differences in detail are just interesting to notice.

I love RE5 so much when it comes to Valenfield inspiration. RE Revelations probably gives us the biggest in-game hint that Chris and Jill are a thing with Parker having to reassure Jill that they'll find Chris, and Jessica getting jealous of how close Chris is to Jill, when Jessica wants to get him. AND of course there's the nuke of a line "Maybe he's already taken, Jessica," that Parker delivers when Chris and Jill walk away from them together. All that said, RE5 just hits a little different for me. It's literally about a man who dedicated years to finding the person he loves, against all odds.
If that was something someone did in real life, I would probably say they're stupid (granted Chris was right and Jill was alive, but he really didn't have any reason to think so. Body found or not, he saw her jump off a cliff). But since this isn't real life, I think it's romantic ❤️💐.
Chris refused to accept Jill's death during Lost In Nightmares events:he joined to Kijuju mission for Jill's rumors only.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He didn't explain his reasons to BSAA since she was declared dead by it after 3 months only of searching.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact Chris searched Jill all time refusing her death so hard it's so moving especially cause in the end...he found and brought her home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feel the ValenField,it isn't for childish shippers as I'm used to say.

Literally have never seen this or thought about this. The relationship Chris has with Jill is central to every decision he makes, and I'm ugly crying about it.
EDIT: Whether this may/may not be accurate (Capcom is honestly pretty lazy when it comes to in depth info about the BSAA- or any of the in-game organizations, cuz they count on people not paying that close attention in the games or in the movies), it's still a fun theory that I can definitely see Chris doing. Thanks for sharing the offical BSAA structure info, @jillvalenfield96!
It appears Chris returned to his position as SOA BSAA agent to be at Jill's side for her first mission after rehab during REDeathIsland on 2015 (that's not about current time shown in RE8).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both of them were SOA agents in RErevelations & RE5 while Chris became a SOU one just after Jill got to rehab due Kijuju events.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary of the post: Chris never leaves Jill. He doesn't even care if he needs to change work abouts.

I always wondered why she needed Chris to train her when she was in Delta Force training, and I assumed the writers kept that in the back story because sexism (Jill's skill always has to be lower than Chris' cuz she's a woman kind of thing), but now I'd like to believe Jill just wanted to spend personal time with Chris lol. It makes much more sense from that perspective.
Jill managed to perform a perfect headshot on a flying chopper with the left arm while having the right one hurted in a very long distance in a few seconds only.
Tumblr media
She got this incredible aim thanks to Delta Force training she did before joined STARS and even improved that with Chris' "private" lessons during RPD days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jill's aim is IMPRESSIVE
And yeah,I love pointing up ValenField facts all time:3

What the Flowers Are that Chris Places on Jill's Grave in RE5, and What They Symbolize
Tumblr media
So I finally took the time and tried to identify the flowers Chris places on Jill's grave in RE5, and when I say "me" I mean a redditor on r/flowers identified them. From there, I researched the flowers to find their symbolism. Here's what they are and what each one means:
1.) Pink Star Gazer- Love, admiration, and femininity.
2.) Blue Delphinium- Dignity and grace, AND devotion in love. There's a few other things they represent, but also they're a common remembrance flowers.
3.) White Lisianthus- Purity and innocence. It can also symbolize devotion and lifelong bonds.
4.) White Wax Flower- Purity, hope, love and patience. These might speak to Chris' hope and patience that he might see Jill again.
5.) Baby Eucalyptus- Strength, protection, and abundance.
From the selection of flowers Chris picked to put on Jill's grave it shows he had a lot of love and admiration for her, and saw her as the woman she was- not just a comrade in arms. He saw Jill as pure and innocent, because she had a strong sense of justice and everything she did was with the intentions of helping others.
The little details we get, like this flashback, really emphasize how devoted Chris and Jill are to each other. The way Chris acts in RE5 is like he lost his soulmate, and his grief is making him unable to truly move on, and be happy with someone else. He has a lifelong bond with Jill, apparent from the way he never stopped thinking about her or looking for her, and he refused to have another partner after her "death."
