So, you’re an MP person.
Well, sit down. Have a seat.  Take the comfy one.  Tea?  Coffee?  How about some cake?
So, you’ve discovered you’re a MP (Medium Porosity) and now you’re stuck with not knowing what to do.  Welcome to the middle ground my friend.
Let’s get started on 10 basic rules to keep your hair in the MP zone and looking after it.
1. Don’t rely on just one test.  Do several.  Do a test every 12 months. Test other sections of your head. Don’t assume that you’ll always be a MP, the scales can tip one way or the other in a short space of time.
2. Don’t assume that you can handle your hair every day just because it’s “resilient.” Remember that your hair is still very fragile and remember to keep on handling it with care.
3. Just because it takes a while for product buildup to become a reality, doesn’t mean you can slap on everything in your product stash.  Take this slowly, one product at a time sweetheart.
4. Don’t worry about protein treatments too often, but watch your Deep Conditioning routine.  Keep your protein treatments to two or three months, or when your hair demands it.
5. Look for products that have water (duh!) in the first 3 ingredients. Remember, your hair likes water, like, REALLY likes water.
6. Go for light butters and/or milks to moisturise your hair.  As I Am Double butter cream works much better in my hair than the thicker and heavier TGIN’s Buttercream.  If you’re on a budget, try Dr Miracles daily styling moisturising lotion (£2.99).
7. Yes. Your hair is capable of holding styles, and absorbing hair dye, and getting a relaxer, and dealing with the heat of your straighteners.  But go easy. Stretch out your relaxers. leave your dye for another few months.  Leave the straighteners in your cupboard/wardrobe/under the bed.  For reference, I dye my hair every 3-4 months, sometimes I stretch it to 6 before the grey hairs start becoming very noticeable.
8. Figure out which LOC method your hair prefers.  This will take some time.  Because your hair is good at retaining the right of moisture, it’s not going to tell you straight away if a method is/isn’t working, so this will be a few months of trial and..er trial.  If it helps LOC on one half and LCO the other half and see how both halves behave.
9. Find a Deep conditioner that is a fairy godmother for your hair. Taaliah Waajid leave-in/deep conditioner is one of my favourites, but Shea Moisture’s Fruit Fusion for fine hair range masque is my bae.
10. Experiment with your hair.  Don’t be afraid to get a product just because it’s aimed at low or high porosity hair.  Remember that you’re slap, bang in the middle.  Make a list of what you want to achieve, check the ingredients of the products you want to buy (proteins, alcohols, oils, chemicals you avoid like the plague,)  try them with products you know work with your hair and see if there’s any difference.  You might surprise yourself.
BONUS: Because your hair is medium porosity, grab products that contain humectants (honey) to help it out throughout the day.
That’s it then.  I hope I didn’t bore you.
So until next Friday, see you later Alligator.

Welp.
I’ve decided to stop posting dodgy pictures of my hair growing because I keep a written diary of what my hair likes, what it loves and what it shrugs it shoulders at and makes a “Meh” noise at.
Instead I’m going to focus on the lesser known subject of medium porosity hair, as there isn’t that much help for us lot in the middle.
I’ll include what’s best, practices that work (for my hair at least), what to avoid and the odd article I may find during my frenzied googling evenings.
Because Gods know there isn’t much help to begin with.

Especially when I get it at a certain angle and my Roman nose is trying to steal the limelight.
Who else low key hates taking selfies because they don’t like the way they look?

I am never buying these…things ever again. Ever.
Let me start my rant.
1. The Cantu Hydrating Cream Conditioner, is meant to be a 2 minute conditioner to help repair the hair, but this horrid little brat just made my hair rebellious after rinsing it out. It did nothing. Like the ONE employee in every work force that sounded good on paper but is useless and brain dead when work actually needs to done. Because of my broke ass though I’m having to dilute it in a spritz bottle and spray sparingly.
It has great slip though, so I’ve started using it to detangle before a co-wash session.
2. Creme Of Nature Argan Buttermilk. The shampoo isn’t so bad but this “milky” conditioner comes out quite thick (please correct me if I’m wrong), the smell is ridiculously overpowering, and my hair just dislikes it. I can’t even look at it without my hair frizzing and drying up.
3. Creme Of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges. I just…I can’t, my edges are in poor shape as it is. And then this nasty gremlin of a gel comes along and just sits on them. Doesn’t do anything remotely conducive throughout the day, just sits there.
4. Shea Moisture Coconut And Hibiscus Curling Gel Souffle. I thought I was onto a winner here, but no. I’m trying to use it up because this is £12 I can’t throw in the bin. I first attempted a wash and go with this beast and like number 3 Shea just sits there twiddling her thumbs whistling a merry tune. And my hairs refuse it entry. I’ve tried it in a flat twist out, a wash and go, and a braid out. Nope, nope, nope. So now I use it in tiny amounts to preserve my wash and gos daily help to keep the moisture in my hair. Its doing a fine job of that.
So far, these are the only products that don’t sit well with me and I have a stash of products that my hair can’t live without. I will do a (very long) post as soon as I find the time. Or after I’ve thrown out/used up these horrid critters.

Washing and caring for natural black girls hair.
1: Wash your hair.. Yes wash your hair every 2 weeks. As, a natural black girl we use tons of products on our hair. Which can lead up to product build up and dirty hair. Be sure to use sulfate free shampoos and to condition your hair. Some good natural hair brands are creme of nature, cantu and kera care. Be sure to condition your hair and let it air dry. Stay away from heat! If you prefer to blow dry your hair instead be sure to use a blow dryer hair attachment comb with heat protection spray to detangle your hair.
2: De-tangle your hair once a week. Because, our hair is kinky it is easy for our hair strands to get tangled against one another which can cause hair to matt, dread and even break off.
3: Condition your hair 2-3 times a week. Make your hair stays moistured and healthy. Dry hair leads to brittle hair and than you will have to cut your hair overall.
4: Get trims every 3-4 months. It is very easy to forget to care for your ends…. this will cause slit ends and your hair will break off eventually and it will never grow if your ends arent healthy. Always get your ends checked out by your trusted hair stylist to etend growth and maintain healthy hair.
5: Be sure to sleep with a satin scarf/bonnet every night as well as satin pillow cover cases. Regular pillow cases can cause damange to your hair especially your ends and cause it to break off due to you move around at night and your hair being pulled.
