someone made an actual nice-looking, good-sounding, not-outdated documentary about esperanto?!

but i’m so broke, i don’t even have $4.99 to buy it

in the trailer there was a swedish guy from the town my wife’s sister lives in (Skövde), i visited there about a month ago for the first time

that lady said, “i want to travel but not as a tourist”. i like that idea, that’s also how i always thought of travelling. i don’t care about tourist places or things, i want to see how a normal person lives, i would rather hang around the grocery store and my one big dream as a kid was to be in a homestay in japan. that kind of thing…

similarities with esperanto

earlier there was a question about which things in esperanto help with the languages i’m learning, so here is a list of some of them:

general basic word formation is very similar or the same: katt-unge = kat-ido = こねこ (子猫) = kitten, “cat’s offspring” hund-unge = hund-ido = こいぬ (子犬) = puppy “dog’s offspring” häst-unge = ĉeval-ido = こうま (子馬) = foal, filly, “horse’s offspring”

descriptive words can be attached to the front verb, or put behind it etc., exactly the same as in icelandic, swedish… it also can be similar to quite a few constructions in japanese (or makes them seem less weird in any case): småskratta - rideti - to laugh a little, chuckle, giggle, laugh quietly halvskratta - duonridi - to half-laugh uttala, utsäga - elparoli, eldiri - to get something out, say aloud, pronounce something, enunciate, articulate, etc. there’s basically a single case, which is accusative, existing in icelandic, german, english (“he - him”), which also can be made use of in further grammar learning for other languages in general: det är (en) hund - ĝi estas hundo - það (hann) er hundur - it is a dog/hound jag har hund - mi havas hundon - ég hefur hund - i have a dog/hound han studerar - li studas - he is studying, he studies same differences that exist in many european languages: göra det själv - faru ĝin mem - do it yourself, do it alone det löser sig själv - ĝi solvos sin mem - it’ll solve itself by itself, it’ll solve itself on its own sluta skada sig själv - ĉesu vundi sin mem - stop injuring oneself by oneself, stop injuring yourself on your own
