saw a tiktok of a mother taking her very tiny daughter to an art museum and she’s just walking around going “whoooa” “woooaah” to everything but then they got to a marble statue of a nude woman lying on her back and the girl points and goes “mommy🫵” and i just immediately welled up with tears and all the comments are just laughing about it and of course it’s funny but how are you not insanely moved by the way art connects everyone on earth from a centuries-old sculptor to a toddler in 2023

Hoping this can be helpful, I feel my experience is relevant to this.
I was born and raised up a Mormon until the ripe age of 14. Then I realised I was trans and distanced myself from such environment, until I eventually stopped going to church at 16. The problem is that, despite I did come out with my father, he still was so much into the whole religion mindset and it was(and still is) impossible for him to see how that could be harmful to me.
This caused him to do a bunch of things that would mess with my mental health and inevitably make me miserable and angry and upset, and I cut off contacts when he had tried to force me to go to church for a couple of times.
The thing is, none of those things were done maliciously. He could see that I was hurting and he was trying to give me help in the only way he knew, which meant literally praying the gay away and try to "fix me" by bringing me closer to the lord or some shit, because those were the things that helped him with his own issues.
And it's easy to hate and call someone an asshole when they purposely hurt you, but when you know that their abuse comes from a place where they want to actually try and help and be loving, at least to me, it feels really unfair to call them out or even tell them how they wronged you, because they were trying their best! How could they do any wrong? But sadly loving someone doesn't prevent you from harming them at all.
That's why the reasoning doesn't work, not loving someone and harming them because of that is just one of the many dynamics that can take place.
I don't know if the abuse referenced in the comic is comparable to what I experienced, but it's the first time I see this topic addressed. It's really sad how people you know being kind hearted and loving just fuck things up and hurt you.

things haven't been great but i think they will be. eventually 🌻🌼🩷
