"[Norrington] finds himself in a position where he’s meant to appear strong and invulnerable, and he’s really vulnerable and in public, and that’s pretty difficult for him to deal with. [...] Beneath the brocade beats a heart, as opposed to a watch, you know." — jack davenport, the curse of the black pearl interview
#bolt this is devastating and makes me want to scream (amazing work as always <3)#ch: what has the world done to you#f: the curse of the black pearl

Since you said you were off work today and your asks were open... C-Can I has / request... Some good ol' Norribeth for the soul? 🥹
(PS: enjoy your day off!!!! 🤩)
FOR THE SOUL-- BEHOLD--
I absolutely loved drawing them. I went with the cotbp outfits because I wanted to make it soft. And because I was listening to Hymn to Virgil while drawing this.
I am already enjoying today a lot thanks to you! ♥️✨️ Now... I could be --easily--persuaded to draw some more pirate!norribeth btw

pirates of the caribbean really introduced an eldritch octopus man who kills indiscriminately and torments the dead as their poster villain and then you watch the movies and it's like, "oh no, actually the worst villain in this series is a small white british man who functions as the herald of capitalism" and that was very very brave of them

Drabble requests 67. Playing the Melody for Norrington and/or Norribeth?
67. playing the melody
There are moments in their life now, settled and quiet, that reflect the days of their youth in a softer glow. The smallest things will remind Elizabeth of her father’s early dinner parties: she would sit at the harpsichord, and Lieutenant Norrington would turn the music for her, diligently, moving mechanically as though this was the only function he had been created to perform. From England she had brought with her only one handbook of music appropriate to her skill level, and it was not long before she knew them all by heart, but benevolently she allowed the young officer to share her moment. This was before Elizabeth learned humility with age and discernment, before she knew there would never be any ill word said against the performance of the governor’s daughter no matter how poorly she played—but she had not known until much later how nervous it made a young fourth lieutenant to be put in such a public position of favor. Now, years and promotions and disgraces later, she lies in the strengthening morning light, a perpetual late riser. In the other room, assuming she is not listening, James hums softly to himself a tune from that infamous handbook; Elizabeth imagines the left hand accompaniment beneath it, as clear in her mind’s eye as her father’s sitting room, and warmth floods her chest.

norrington for 34 (stars)!
34. stars
All his life the night sky has brought him comfort; it is as vast and endless as the sea it reflects but steady, sure, true. There by Heaven's light lies the path by which the world may find its way across the pathless seas, and that has always brought Norrington peace. Now the stars are hidden from him. A hurricane lurks over the horizon, prowling low miles off and approaching quickly, and his quarry is but a speck in its shadow, her black sails struggling to snatch onto the curling, erratic winds as she attempts to outrun the pursuit of both the weather and the Dauntless. Norrington collapses his glass and looks skyward, to stars he cannot see but knows are there, and closes his eyes as the first droplets of rain fall.

cat and norrabeth?
23. cat
“And what function does this officer serve on the ship?” Elizabeth says, amused, as the ship cat flops and sprawls languorously on the deck, belly exposed and paws reaching gently and with reasonable deniability to brush James’ shoes. Without looking away from his correspondence, James reaches down to stroke her glossy fur. Elizabeth is expecting some pragmatic answer from her stalwart husband—rat hunting, ship morale, &c. &c.—but to her surprise James says only, “Good luck.” “I suppose you need all of it you can get,” Elizabeth says lightly, “but does her black hair not cancel it out?” “That may explain some of my record,” he drawls, “though—Mr. Gibbs would have had us believe any bad luck is due to your presence, no?” James meets her narrowed eyes calmly, wryly. Further teasing is interrupted as the cat latches onto his shoe and begins to kick with her back feet, gnawing on the buckle. Unphased, he scoops up the cat and tucks her into the crook of his arm, holding her still as he returns to his paperwork, moving with such ease that Elizabeth knows this is part of their routine.

time and time again the thing that keeps me thinking about norrington is the inherent contradiction of him. jack davenport said specifically that love is the thing that sets him apart from other characters in his role. he is made unique by his love in a society that favors image and reputation, and that very thing makes him undesirable; he is carefully well-spoken yet at his sharpest and most eloquent in the heat of the moment; he is violent and ruthless yet his greatest victory comes from trickery; he is defined by duty, yet he is at his truest self when liberated from it, or indeed actively defying it. slap a wig on that man and you have a perfect cocktail of shakespearean tragedy destined to be his own ruin ❤️
